Flashback Friday Summertime FUN!

I was fortunate to grow up in a small town in Arkansas, surrounded by my relatives.

My Grandparents lived next door….the other set right down the street. And I had cousins all within walking distance.

I’m the tall blond in this photo standing next to my much older cousin, Richard. And my much younger cousin Cindy and sister Delores. (R. is about 2 years older, C. and D. 2 years younger! heehee!)

cousinssummer

I was barefoot with my hair pulled back in a pony tail….wishing I had an Annie Oakley outfit complete with belt and holsters…and cowgirl hat!

It sure brings back happy memories. Richard was stuck playing with us quite a bit but I remember playing ‘war’ and ‘Cowboys and Indians’ as much as anything else. I was NOT a Tomboy…even though I look like one here!

We mostly have photos of Easter, Christmas or piano recitals…everyone dressed in their Sunday best. It’s fun to have a few to remember every day life. Do you have a lot of photos with your play clothes on?

I’m joining Seaside Simplicity

for Flashback Friday!

I love your picture! You haven't changed all that much! I can definitely tell it is you! So cute!

Diane - you were the cutest thing ever! Remember when we were kids and we had "dress" clothes or "play" clothes? xo

Photography was very expensive 'back then' so I've not seen many photos of everyday stuff from my childhood.

Oh, that picture is so cute! Now that you mention it, I Don't have many pictures of me in play clothes. I think back then they liked to 'pose' every picture. What I always hated was how my mom made me face the sun to take the picture so in all of mine I'm squinting! Have a nice weekend! Twyla

Diane, that is just a darling, darling photo!! We played all those same games. That's when kids played outdoors, rather than playing video games all day. lol

How wonderful! I love that photo. Kids just out playing. Simple living is the best.

thanks for visiting my blog (a bench with a view) and your comment.

Love the picture of the four of you, but what I love more is that you grew up in close proximity with your extended family. That had to be such a great experience wit lots of memories from those times. We moved away from family when I was seven, I have lots of cousins but am close to none of them.

I don't have many pictures from my younger days, but maybe one or two with play clothes :)

enjoy the day!

Pictures of the simple life are the best of all. They are honest histories of families for sure!

What sweet souvenirs Dear Lavender Dreamer!
You made my day...I was NOT a tomboy either but I had a water pistol (no plastics, an exact replica of the real item in metal!), a tomakawk, a bow and arrows and loved to play marbles...
As for the outfit, albeit I can not provide a photo, it included however long braided hair and skirt, no trousers!
I am telling on myself, right?
Ah the souvenirs! Thank you Diane for a lovely moment back in time!
Blessings to you and yours,

That cute picture could have been taken out of my own family album! The hairstyles and summer outfits look so familiar. Also, we were fortunate to live right behind our maternal grandparents. They were so loving and all we needed to do was run the short distance to their house for hugs, food, cats to pet, and open floor space for paper doll playing!

I like the everyday life photos too. My mom made me a scrapbook of my first 20 years a while back and I love the candid shots with my friends.

Visiting from Martha's today...enjoy your weekend!

I LOVE this photo-real life- up close and personal as a kid. We don't have hardly any pictures of us as kids playing...mostly we were dressed up. xo Diana

Love this adorable photo! Like you many of my childhood photos were taken all dressed up on holidays. I like the more natural every day photos the best. Thanks for playing along! :)

This is such a cute picture. I'm so glad you emailed me about this post. Your brother looks like he's trying to distance himself from all those "yuk" girls! Your play clothes look like mine did. Where did you live in Ark.? laurie

Well Miss Priss, how cute were you? Long legs and blonde, no that is not a tomboy! LOL, very cute photo and post. Have a wonderful weekend.

My pictures are mostly like yours...special occasions and holidays. There were very few with our play clothes, but I think that was because film and having pictures processed was a luxury and we were pretty poor...not penniless, but close to it at times.

I also played war and cowboys and Indians with my brother and his friends. I wasn't a tomboy either, but I had no girls in my neighborhood to play with, so it was either play their games or not play.

You were a cutey pie, as were your cousins and sister.

It is such a blessing you were able to grow up near family. I am glad I have been able to give that to my children. I was a Navy brat and we grew up in California with our extended family in the Carolinas. Now that we're closer, I see the benefit of close families.
Have a blessed weekend Dear Friend,
Kathy

I agree with Kathy ... you were so blessed to know your relatives, up close n' personal! :) All of mine were more than 1,000 mi. away, so we cousins were never close.

Loving this snapshot ... for some reason, it makes me think of a Hallmark made-for-TV movie!
