‘Half Tweaked!’

I always get excited to show my ‘tweaking’ in progress!

TopIMG_2965

And it’s true I can keep the same projects going for YEARS!

LRIMG_2962

We put my hubby’s guitar and cornet on top of the entertainment center and some of our combined music books. (we both play the piano)

So when I found this antique mandolin at a consignment shop, we found a spot for it, too.

MandolinCloseIMG_2606

I saw prices for the mandolin all over the place….some for more than a thousand dollars.

MandoSideIMG_2607

This one is in rough shape but it actually came in it’s original case and I think it has charm, don’t you?

IMG_2613

It’s a bowl-back mandolin, also called a ‘tater-bug’.

And for $20, it was a BARGAIN!

We have more pottery in our home in NC to bring down for some of the cubbies. I’m ‘saving’ room for it! But I couldn’t wait to show off the top.

And don’t you love my piano?

PianoIMG_2971

And the old music?

I’m joining Coastal Charm for Nifty Thrifty Tuesday and Brenda at the Cozy Little House for Tweak it Tuesday.

Do you play a musical instrument?

(I should practice more! lol)

I adore what you did with the instruments on top of the shelf. I love mandolin music and that one is a real find. If it were me, I'd refinish it - what a beauty. Can your husband play it?

Diane, I've always like musical instruments on display. My dad has a grand piano and displays his trumpet in the room too. It's just beautiful.

Diane, only you could use a title like half tweaked....and get away with it.

Laughing..

The Mandolin was a steal, and everything looks wonderful.

We have projects that go on for years too. We are easily distracted. Love the mandolin. My kiddo took piano lessons way up into her third year of college. I do not play anything but always wanted to.

I miss having a piano. Yours is beautiful. I recognize the song book on the left, that is an oldie but goodie!

Love your tweaking, the mandolin was a bargain!

I do love your piano and all the fun you're having with the tv console top. Yes, I also play the piano and I, too, should practice more. Lovely vintage pieces of music as well... Bargain on the mandolin and it what a nice piece to display.

oh that mandolin is a treasure!

I play piano too but don't play often enough. CRAZY ! I had lessons as a child / had a piano all through early marriage etc.......

Went without for 15 yrs or so then got one ( Old one ) about 3 yrs ago. Went crazy playing every day for a year playing catch-up and now I am back to here and there!

Sounds like you and your husband are quit the musicians. I am not musicially inclined. Mom always dreamed that one of her chidren would play the piano, so she kept me in lessons for years. I really hated them and rarely practiced, so eventually she had to give up her dream. I was in the school band in junior high, but never beyond that. These days, I much prefer being in the audience enjoying others play.

Sounds like you got a great deal on the mandolin. Thanks for sharing it with us.

It's one thing I hope to learn one day is to play an instrument... When I saw my husband playing the piano for the first time, I was in awe.

How neat, I had no idea your hubby was so musical. Both my boys play the trombone and they LOVE it. My older boy especially, because he is getting a really good now. Love the old music sheets you have too.

Diane, what a find! That mandolin is wonderful! That cabinet top looks so pretty, showcasing all of the instruments. Loving the old sheet music. I think I have that golden book of favorite songs somewhere. Because of my husband's alergies, I can't use any scented products, so I won't enter your giveaway, but it sure is a nice giveaway. laurie

Ooh, what a great bargain. Love your tweaking. I had no clue you played an instrument. I completed my seven years of piano lessons (9-16). Never play though. teehee Our son knows how to play almost every instrument from childhood. Plenty of guitars in this home. :) Love how you displayed these.
