February is a great time to hike. The temps are usually in the 70s and many of the leaves are still off the trees for better bird watching (or spotting scary neat things).
We’ve been hiking every weekend this month and this past weekend we hiked both Saturday and Sunday. These photos are from our hike at Ross Prairie State Forest.
There are so many spring flowers springing up.
Yellow Jessamine is everywhere right now.
I’m glad I looked it up in my identification book because I found out this, “All parts of the plant are poisonous and contain alkaloid similar to strychnine.”
It grows on a vine with stems to 20 ft. long and has trumpet shaped, fragrant yellow flowers.
Now if you’re a big scaredy cat about going deep in the forest, stop reading now!!!
In the darkest reaches
of the enchanted forest
there are monsters ready to GET YOU!
Well, they are monsters if you take this photo to picmonkey and play for about a half an hour! hahahaha!
Any monsters in your world today?
Or pretty yellow flowers?

Your hiking inspires me! I actually googled and found a list of great hiking within two hours of us. There are several choices and I'm looking forward to it. There's a place an hour and a half from here with dinosaur tracks. :)
You have no idea how I'm longing to see green grass and to go hiking again, my Florida friend. We're sitting under 3' of snow and longing for springtime! :-)
Alas, not monsters or yellow flowers found in my world yet. BUT I am sure that way below the snow they are thinking it is just about time. VBG Hugs Judy
No monsters that I can see, except for that scary face in the tree. No yellow flowers. Oh it would be like me to gather up a bouquet of those poisonous posies. Accckkk!
Ha! LOVE these. Those yellow flowers are so pretty - and to be so poisonous! Only monsters in my world are the "Dust Bunnies" - I've been spring cleaning the last few days. LOL
Good for you getting out and hiking so much! Louie and I were just talking about that yesterday and how we can't wait to go. We're still buried under lots of snow here. Enjoy that warm sunshine my friend!
You are sure keeping fit Diane, hiking.
No monsters here.
My post of the week was about my field flowers..
thanks for your comments..always welcome.
wishing you a happy week..with no monsters.. );-

you made me laugh. love those jasmine blooms!
Jan., Feb. and March are awesome walking times in Florida for hiking with the cooler temps. - 70s AND the lack of snakes. Or not as many snakes are out and about!! Watch out in the late spring and summer!! You need steal toed boots in the summer!!
It appears the yellow flowers are more the monsters than the frog shaped moss. Nice walk!!
Well, no monster or yellow flowers. My shamrock plant has a few white flowers, and that's it here. I'll just be glad to see grass again!
Isn't it strange that the pretty things are sometimes the monsters...like that beautiful poison plant. You cracked me up with the picmonkey monster. LOL. I know you are enjoying your hikes. xoxo,Susie
Oh what cool photos! And wow, that's sounds so warm for Feb. Here in BC it's been -16C for several days and for here, that's cold. Brrr...
I hope you have a great week, sending hugs to you too, G
I love to hike and I love your pictures of yours. I haven't tried pic monkey but I will. I did not know that about Jasmine!
Love all that green! Only monsters here are covered deeply with snow and frozen like a rock. Glad you're warm!
Pretty flower pictures. So happy you can go hiking in February..
Scary stuff! Fun too! Seriously that plant is scary and it looks so pretty. Good thing you checked it out first!
Best wishes
Christine
What gorgeous hikes you get to take! I miss being more active outdoors.
ha ha ha :)
just some more snowflakes in my world today :)
Oh you are having fun!!!! Love your photos. I love everything BUT the pollen!
Have a great evening.
Both the monsters and the flowers are buried under three feet of snow here... so I'm safe! lol
So pretty but so deadly. Love the monsters :)
xo Laura
Love reading about your adventures! Did you finish the stack of books or are you still working on them?
Once the snow gets a bit less, it'll be time to take the girls on a hiking exploration behind our property to spy on our local creek. The snow is still so deep, Josie can't walk in it. For now, I'll continue to enjoy your fun outings. Keep the pictures coming!
This post could seem a bit cruel as we go into another Arctic Vortex here. Instead, I will pretend I am hiking with you in Florida!
How lovely to go hiking, not something we can do in February. The only monsters around here are the wind and the snow :)
Haha!
Fun post:)
The 'monsters' look absolutely ferocious!!
everything looks wonderful Diane I hope you're having a wonderful week may the Lord bless you your friend laura
