A ‘Dream Job’!
I’m going to be a Riverboat Pilot, maybe even the Captain!
I have my license….
when should I pick you up in my riverboat?
My girlfriend, Kim at Snug Harbor found these at an Estate Sale and she shared with me, and sent me ONE! (this is her pic of all three)
What a surprise to get a big package in the mail and find out she and I (and Chablis, too) are all Riverboat Pilots now! heehee!
Watch out!
The waters will never be safe again.
“Riverboat pilots, particularly on major rivers like the Mississippi, were the most respected people on a riverboat's bridge because their ability to "read" the river as it shifted its course from one minute to the next kept the riverboat from running into something that was going to, in their words, "kill" the boat. When a pilot took a riverboat down the Mississippi, say from Vicksburg to New Orleans, he would encounter a set of obstacles. Conditions on the river shifted so much, though, that when he reversed his course and went up the river, by that time he was presented with a whole new set of obstacles that he had to steer around.” source
I’m planning to hang it on the wall but I’m enjoying it on a bookshelf now.
Thanks Kim and Chablis!

Fun post! There's that Waterlogue feature again. I was all set to order an iPad, and day before yesterday my clothes washer crashed. New one is coming this afternoon or tomorrow morning. Oh well.
What a fun find! We have river pilots here that get on the big container ships at the mouth of the Columbia River and bring them up river to port and then back out again. I have seen some documentaries on it and it is quite a harrowing job. There are some women river pilots, too.
Oh, how fun is that and to recieve it as a gift is even better!
Have a great day,
Tina
Haha! What fun, Diane! We're all going to be flocking to your place so you can take us on a ride down the river. or up the river. :-)
Hi Diane! Or should I say, Captain Diane? :) How fun and wasn't that so nice of Kim to send you one. I'm a little jealous seeing your watercolors. I downloaded that app and it wouldn't work for me. Then I found out it was only for Apple products! Shoot!
Be a sweetie,
Shelia;)
Aww so much fun dear captain :)
Sweet hugs xxx
What a fun piece to have!
Wow, learned something new about the riverpilots. Sounds like fun though. What a sweet friend, but then you have thousands of sweet friends. You bring out the best in so many of us.
Sweet hugs!

Oh we laughed reading your comment this morning and now we know the rest of the story. Perhaps we should start calling you Diane Twain!
How fun, sweet friend :) You can pick me up anytime and we shall sail the river!
Hugs to you, Diane!

Aye, aye, captain. What a sweet gift. I wonder about the licenses of people piloting any water craft now...too many oil spills. Enjoy your day, xoxo,Susie

Hello Captain Diane!! What a fun post. How wonderful to be gifted with this wonderful piece. It does look great in your bookcase.
I'll meet you at the Mississippi river as you travel by to pick me up!! LOL
See you soon, still in central Texas but will be back shortly.
Hugs!
How awesome, Diane! That is a neat treasure. I'd love to be a riverboat captain:). Twyla
Ok, so once you get your riverboat out to the Atlantic, turn north and I'm connected to waterways all the way from the St. Lawrence River ... shall we say 6:00 next Tuesday? ;) Very cool find, and very nice of your friend to pass one along to you. Wendy x
ALL ABOARD! Just one question...will I need my sea legs before we set sail? ;D
What a giggle Diane and such a wonderful find.
Enjoy!
Congratulations Diane! LOL That is pretty fun to have.
Cool gift. My SIL has an old stock on her wall that was once worth a lot of money but sadly is worthless. Thanks for the visit. I have been away as i said. I will have a normal month soon-I can hope. xo, olive
This looks great. I'm not much for steering so I will gladly join you on your cruise. Wouldn't that be fun!
I am not a water person..never have been. I like to look at it from afar..and that's about it so I would never make a Riverboat Captain..
So nice of the ladies to share... :)
What a really neat piece to own, Diane. You have some great friends!!!! xo Diana
Well aren't you the smartie!
I was raised on the shores of the Mississippi River. My Dad was a commercial fisherman there. I have ridden on the Riverboats before, so I know just how hard your job is Diane!! :>)
Captain Diane...I'm so ready to go on a trip down the river. What a wonderful surprise to get in the mail!!
hugs,
Cindy
I've always said you have the best adventures. Now, I really believe it!
