I am almost to the end of Necessary Lies by Diane Chamberlain and it’s very good. You don’t want to stop reading at the end of a chapter….what in the world will happen next? It almost reminds you of the old song, “If it weren’t for bad luck, I’d have no luck at all!” But the characters are endearing and you’re cheering for them to succeed or at least to survive! I’ve really enjoyed it!
And I’m getting ready to go back to the 1500s so it was a nice change. (3rd in this series)
I found a small stack of old Hardy Boy books at the old thrift store. (25 cents each)
And a wonderful classic, The Call of the Wild by Jack London.
You can’t go wrong reading the classics….again and again.

I haven't read anything in the last few weeks so it's fun to see suggestions. My son read all the Hardy Boys books when he was little - the blue cover ones. Then years later my dad bought an old house and found the whole set of really old ones. How fun! I love running across words like "dungarees". :)

What great selections you have! I am reading a book called "The Diary of Olga Romanov" by Helen Azur. I used to work with Helen. She does a terrific job translating and explaining the diaries of the last Tsar of Russia's oldest daughter.
I'm going to to look for those books in our library. Thanks for the recommendations.
Diane Chamberlain is an author I am familiar with and I think I might have at least one of her novels in the house, not read any yet though, thanks for the recommendation. The Boleyn Inheritance I read six years ago and The Call of the Wild way way back. Hope you are keeping well.

Oh Those Hardy Boys! Has it really been a week since you last asked what I was reading? I am hanging my head in shame. Wait! This means that I really know how to make a book last.
It has been ages since I read Call of the Wild.
I don't know when I'm going to have time to finish the book I've been reading. Too busy getting ready to move!

I'm intrigued -- those both look like good books. I just finished a book called Somersby that was good and now I'm reading Born of Persuasion by Jessica Dotta (also a period novel -- love those!). I bet you're enjoying them OUTSIDE or on your lanai -- lucky you!
I read Necessary Lies a while ago...one of the all time best books I have ever read. Worrisome, unnerving, and appealing, her characters wound me up, and drew me in like a spider on a web. I loved every word in there, and have searched for more of her books, now I need to go back and check for them again. She is an amazing writer.

I just started Lady Almina and the Real Downton Abbey, i think it's going to be interesting. The book I just finished was The Twelve Tribes of Hatttie, it was ok.
I've read A few of Diane Chamberlain's books over the years, they were always good!
Lucky you with the thrift stores! I regret reading other books instead of The Hardy Boys to my sons when they were young. And the classics are always good. Right now, I'm reading "Victoria and Albert," very good and interesting!
I thought you would like the Diane Chamberlain one! I know I did! Now I am reading all her books I can find! ALL OF THEM are just as good too! I think you will like them all just as much as I do!
I wish I could find some old Nancy Drew mysteries around here. Nice Hardy Boys books! I read them, too.
I haven't read anything at all this weekend. We drove to North Carolina and got a new puppy!!! We're exhausted but it was soooo worth it.

You can not beat those old editions, I like the cover on the Jack London book. I read the first two in the Philippa Gregory series, they were excellent. I am reading The Late Scholar by Jill Paton Walsh, a new book (to be released in June) with the Lord Wimsey character; it is excellent too.
