We take the back roads for most of our trips but this past week, we got on the ‘big’ interstate when we left St. Augustine to make better time driving down to Daytona and New Smyrna Beach.
I’m not sure you can call an interstate beautiful, but there sure are some beautiful palm trees on stretches of this one and at every exit.
Well, having said that, most of our trip last week was taken on back roads.
Florida has rural areas, too.
Probably not what you would expect if you’ve never lived here or traveled the back roads.
I know it surprised me when we moved here 10 years ago!
I’m joining Beautiful Sunday
Amaze me Monday and
Lavender Cottage for Mosaic Monday.
Come back another day and I’ll share more beach photos! I love the beach best, don’t you?
And traveling the back roads is always fun!

I love the beaches in South Alabama Diane. I grew up in the mountains of North Georgia so I love mountains too. Thanks for sharing a "pretty" interstate.lol
Yes, back roads travel is much more interesting. Super photos!
Love your pictures. I really love to see trains, so I enjoyed that shot. The super highways can be made pretty, but the back roads have all the character. Blessings for a great Sunday. xoxo,Susie
I have always loved the back roads of Florida. They are so lush. It is sad to see how some of the little towns fell into disrepair and were somewhat abandoned when the interstates and super highways went through their areas.
I read your St.Augustine post, too. That is one of my very favorite places in all of Florida. xo Diana
Love the shots of the back roads you've been travelling! Highways are great time savers, but the slower routes are less taxing and more enjoyable. Wendy x
The back roads are the heart of America. Often forgotten, they certainly are the better way to travel. You live in a beautiful state.
Morning, love traveling back roads when we can traveling. Beautiful shots of Florida, Blessings Francine.
I love the beach best, too, but I love forests and the autumn leaves. We took the back roads in Rhode Island last week and found great autumn beauty.
i'd like those rural areas. :)
Well good morning Diane, yes!! I love the beach! Always enjoy looking at your beachy photos! The photo of the interstate is interesting with the horizon of palm trees! Hope you are having a peaceful Sunday! I am catching up on blog posts, I have missed so much!

I love your traveling pics, Diane. Sounds like you are having fun!!
Oh yes I do love beach photos best and your header is just stunning. I never thought of Florida in the fall, always visit in the winter, but now that i think of it I have been to the GA (Edisto Island) coast in fall and it was beautiful.
I loveyour header photo Diane. We are back road travellers whenever possible, in fact I'd go out of my way to stay on the back roads than take a major highway, but it doesn't aways work out that way.
We try to always travel the back roads when we are seeing a new place for the first time. And you are right, I never thought about Florida having much in the way of rural areas. But, they have to grow those oranges somewhere.
When we have the time I love to travel the back roads, there is always something to see. Thanks for sharing.
I enjoy taking the back roads too, but never having been to Florida in my life I don't think of it as having rural farming areas. To me Florida=beaches. LOL
I love seeing the sights on the back roads.. Florida has some pretty rural areas.. Wonderful post, thanks for sharing your road trip! Enjoy your new week ahead!
I always enjoy travelling with you through the back roads of wherever you are Diane!
The sky is always blue and it never seems to be cloudy - does it ever rain?!
What a wonderful life you have!
Wishing you a happy week where ever you happen to be!

Sometimes you can see more interesting things on the less travelled backroads. Yes, I love the beach in Florida and miss having family in New Smyrna.
Thanks for linking to Mosaic Monday my lavender sister. Hugs!
Looks as if you have been having a lot of fun! :)
Very interesting photos, Diane!
I'm looking forward to seeing photos of the beach in the autumn. I can imagine there is a really special atmosphere!
Have a good week!
Florida is such a lovely state with such varied topography, and of course its beautiful beaches!
My husband and I recently traeled the back roads of Colorado all the way to AZ in order to attend a family wedding in AZ. We loved the scenery along the way!
Travelling the back roads is definitely my favorite way to travel. I was very surprised by inland Florida the first time I went the. Didn't expect all of the farmlands. xo Laura
I too love the back roads.
I always enjoy your photos.
Hugs to my BFF :)
Thanks for sharing your back road travels. I enjoy seeing where others have traveled. I use to do a lot of traveling in my "younger" years, but don't care for long road trips now.
Hello,
We love to travel the back roads too.
We love the beach and Lake Superior is our favorite. It is not very warm, but it is beautiful.
I love to look for sea glass on our walks.
Have a great start to your new week.
Carla
We love the backroads, Diane. Much more interesting than the highways. You captured some nice scenes on your drive. We live in a remote part of Oregon where backroads are all there is. LOL xxx ~ Nancy
We are just about to set off on a backroads (and few freeways) journey to the Southwest. We have friends in New Smryna Beach so thoroughly enjoyed your photos and journey today!
I would love to come to Florida in the Fall *smiles* I used to go to Florida all the time when I was younger. My grandparents would stay there from January until about April so my parents and I would usually visit them and stay at the Disney World campground - such precious memories :)
Hugs to you, Diane!
It's always more fun to take back roads when traveling. Also, when going to a country such as France, I would much rather explore the countryside than Paris. For me, a city is a city, but the 'backroads' are the heart and soul of a country.

Traveling the back roads is a wonderful way to see the "real" part of an area, I think. But highways get us to where we want to go more quickly. Beautiful photos of rural Florida - and beaches are always wonderful! Have a great week, Diane.
Always gorgeous pics from wherever you're going.
Brenda
Oh, I love the beach and miss it from my time living in Clearwater (a long time ago!) I envy you! :)
Susan
We experienced the same surprise the first time we came to Florida. The ruralness (if that is a word) and the jungly growth (mosses, lichen, ferns) were a total shock. We expected palm trees and white sand beaches. WE got that, but all the rest as well and we have said many times that if the rest of it wasn't there we would never have bought the park model and moved there.
Totally agree about backroads and love your pictures and collages.
I'm like you....love exploring those old back roads!! Adventure!!
great photos x
I grew up in Rural Florida so I know the back roads really well! You miss a lot by getting on the Interstate. Of course, if you're making time it's the best way to travel! Love your posts! Makes me appreciate what I take for granted!

That is what we are doing right now, we are driving across Canada and we are exploring all the back roads well it sure seems that way anyway. I stopped last year in St. Augustine for what was a day then it turned into 3 days I loved it so much. One in particular antique little shop I'll always remember as the owner was a lovely lady and we became friends right away. Yesterday all the cars stopped for 4 deer just meandering across the road, it was something to see for sure. thank you for sharing
There's so much to see and the only way to go when you're not in a hurry. Thanks for sharing Diane.
I love travelling the back roads and being able to stop and see things that usually would be driven straight past. Love the palm trees in the distance on the interstate though. Have a wonderful week xx
Mee too...love back roads out in the country! Thanks so much for sharing at AMAZE ME MONDAY...
Blessings,
Cindy
Oh, I love all of your photos, Diane! Those palms trees really do dress up that interstate! I love traveling the backroads more than anything...we miss so much traveling on the main roads, don't we? Have a great week, my friend!
The "vegetarian recovery center" cracked me up!
I wouldn't have expected that kind of scenery on Florida back roads...but, I've never been to Florida. Very cool! I love taking back roads. My daughter and I did that a lot on our big summer road trip through 10 states. It was awesome!
These are wonderful fall photos, Diane! And I love that header. I just get used to one and you've got a new one! :-))
Great Fall photos!! I love traveling the back roads when we go places...so much better then the highway.
hugs,
Cindy
I adore taking the back roads and your pictures show just why it is more fun.
Oh, those wonderful back roads! I hate interstates and go out of my way to take the 'back way'. Lovely sights to see in your beautiful state. Your blog header took my breath away! So gorgeous! xo Karen
Oh Diane,
You take the best trips and photos and have the best attitude too!
I am in a small town in Oklahoma visiting my youngest daughter and a grand baby. 40 Miles of the trip was back roads and I loved every moment of it!
Have a sweet week, dear friend!

I always enjoy your photos! Have a great week.
Lovely post. Having lived in Florida a couple of times and the husby being from there, I always look for the rural roads, the roads less traveled. Palm trees are great, but I want to see more. Your horse country is lovely too~
Those old trucks are really cool!
