Photo Challenge “Still Life”

I was wondering what I could do for this month’s challenge, so I went to Donna’s photography blog to find some inspiration.

And this quote brought something to mind. Donna wrote, “Shop around the house for a collection of interesting items that can be used in your compositions. When in doubt, think back to the simplicity challenge. When it comes to composition, less can really be more. Tell a story. Feature an item in a creative and whimsical way. Pay attention to your background and don’t let it distract from your subject matter.”

Awhile back, I walked in the back door with a ‘thrift store treasure’. I placed her on top of a bar of soap. (laundry soap that you grate to wash clothes) This counter is a nice ‘catch all’ and the soap stayed there, and so did the thrift store lady. So later when I walked by with the camera, I thought she looked very pretty sitting there with this background.

So that’s how my cutting board, a thrift store pincushion and a bar of sweet smelling laundry soap came together with a few tweaks on the computer.

Let me back up and show you a little more.

Thanks Donna for the inspiration and fun!

Hi Miss Lavender Dreams,

Oh, that dolly is bee-u-tee-ful and your display is very creative. I'm gonna look around and see if I can do a display. Maybe using LuLu & Flora as headless bears. Giggle. They are out of control, they are running around the house screaming. UGH!

Great idea to use your glass cutting board as the background Diane - it's perfect and definitely pulls the whole still life connection together without a lot of clutter.
She was a great thrift find - anymore treasures hiding in those pretty shopping bags?

Have a fabulous weekend.

How beautiful she is as well as the photo. Isn't it amazing how much we miss sometimes? Event things in our own homes that we get used to seeing everyday. Someone new comes in and oohhs and ahhhs over something that we no longer notice!
