That is the question! I have two really good libraries close by so I stop by one of them every week. And I always see interesting books to check out. I don't always read them though. There's just not enough time to do everything I want to do.
I DID read At the Water's Edge this week and it was very good.
(I read Mademoiselle Chanel last week and I liked it, too!)
I read The Dry Grass of August but didn't like it at all and I just finished Like Dandelion Dust. It was good.
This week I checked these out and I read the first 50 pages of each one.
I will not read A Spool of Blue Thread. (I didn't care for the story) but I will read The Cavendon Women some other time. The Cavendon Women reminded me of 'Downton Abbey' just a bit and I think I would enjoy the story and the characters but I'm just not interested in it right now.
I did get one in the mail this week that I know we will all enjoy!

I read At The Water's Edge, too, and I loved it! I will probably review it in a week or two. I'll have my Literary Friday post up later today. We didn't have electricity all day yesterday! :/

(Long deep sigh).. Blogs. That's about the extent of my reading. I devoured 8 books in the Outlander series; now I guess I am taking a break. I have two new Philipa Gregory books to dig into, a Nora Roberts #2 of 3 to finish, and #3 to read. I have thought, too, about rereading some of the classics on my shelf, stories that I love: Tess of the D'urubervilles, for example.
If I start a book and don't like it, I don't finish it.
I'm reading Whistling Past the Graveyard and in the very first paragraph I was hooked!

I gave up on the Cavenden Women about half way through...I prefer the REAL Downton Abbey!! I have been on a Philippa Gregory kick in the last few weeks. And I have picked up the new book by Candice Bergen about her life as a wife and mom. I seem to be doing more reading this summer and less tv watching.
I am glad to hear that I am not alone in checking out books and not reading them. There are too many good books to read, so if I don't like one, I don't keep reading. Love Sara Gruen, must get her new book, thanks!
I read several books a week. I am obsessed with reading. Always have been. I admit that I sometimes check books out that I don't read. It is usually because I find I am not in the mood for them. xo Laura

I read A Spool of Blue Thread and hated the ending. It was a total waste of time. I don't enjoy reading about dysfunctional families. I'm picking a new book up today that I ordered from our library. I'll let you know if I like it.

I am currently reading the Clifton Chronicles by Jeffrey Archer. They're very good, I'm about halfway through the third one. They are a fairly quick and easy read.

I check out books from my library all the time. Some I put on hold and they notify me when they are there. I just picked up Mary Kay Andrews latest 'beach town' and will start it today! I also start a book and if it doesn't grab me I stop reading it also. So little time and too many books to read anything that I don't enjoy. You pick out some interesting books and I always enjoy your Goodreads reviews.

Funny now it's summer, and I seem to have a list of books I want to read that's longer than my arm. I was just telling Linda at Crafty Gardener that the pile behind me is towering, and threatening to fall over. But winter will come, and there will be time then. For now the garden and blogging take whatever free time I have available.

I watched the movie, Like Dandelion Dust, I thought it okay, not a favorite.
I agree, we might like them or we may decided to put them down and return to the library. :-))

To read or not to read? It's always read for me! Although I guess if I start a book and really don't like it, I go on to the next. But you're right; there's never enough time to do all the things we want!

Funny - I have A Spool of Blue Thread on my nightstand.. read about 20 pages of it and just couldn't get into it. IT's been sitting there for months. I am reading All the Light We Cannot See and I love it. Great read -
This is one thing I need to do this summer, is read some books. I have four shelves of books plus a drawer full of books waiting for me to read. I love collecting them when I shop at second hand stores, to save for that lull in time to read. Those books you mentioned looked interesting.

I'm stating a new book soon at the recommendation of another blogger, titled Sweater Quest. I just finished the Meg Langslow series. I did try another series and just read the first few pages, but didn't like the language so will be returning those to the library.
Oh my! Nana Diana wrote that? I've seen her out on various blogs for years now. How wonderful! Congratulations Nana Diana! What an accomplishment! I'll be reading her book for sure and I wrote down the other ones just in case I have nothing to read! LOL!
I loved the Anne Tyler as I always do love her books. But I agree with you that it is not necessary to finish a book one doesn't enjoy. I am a slow learner because I only figured that out a couple of years ago ;)))... I realized life was too short and too full of fun things to do to waste time on anything you aren't enjoying. ( Well, maybe except for cleaning the bathroom once in a while ;))
