When I was much younger and had a house full of little boys, I taught myself to crochet and knit. I bought a book and sat down and tried to figure it out without help. I have never been very proficient but I still like to find an easy pattern and work on small projects. I like to crochet better than knit. Which do you prefer?
So what's the 'crazy' part of this post?
I was not successful with the little dollie slippers. So I only made one! hahaha! I did make the pink and green bag to keep my yarn and needles together and I was happy with it.
I hope you are warm and safe inside and doing something you enjoy today!
I’m joining Beautiful Sunday and
Lavender Cottage for Mosaic Monday.

I keep saying I am going to learn to knit...so far it has not happened.lol
Oh I love the bag - such pretty colors!
I taught myself to knit and crochet too. There are lots of good videos on You Tube. I prefer crocheting by far. Have a nice week. xo
The bag is so swee..I love it.
Enjoy your day x
Very cute bag, and that is one smart monkey.
Good morning, I do not think my hands and fingers would work knitting or crocheting. I like your cute bag! Enjoy your weather, I wish I was in Florida now.
Happy Monday, enjoy your new week!
Years ago I learned to crochet from a book, but haven't done it for a long time. Knitting is more my thing, but I sit here with a sweater not finished! Cute bag! Have a wonderful day, Diane.
Diane, My SIL showed me how to crochet. I made vests for everyone. or so it seemed. I made a bout 200 granny squares...never put them together...gave them to my daughter and she joined them all together. :) I am thinking of you with a house full of boys. My girls could make me crazy and elated all in the same space of time./ LOL Blessings, xoxo,Susie
I think they are both cute! I tried knitting and crocheting too and just could not get the knack of it!
I did the very same thing when my children were young, I did a lot of it back then but I prefer knitting, only because I know it better,, that bag you made is lovely, the slipper is so sweet, don't give up,,
I saw that they have a loom for making slippers, but I didn't notice if it could make something that small. It was at Michaels. I have not failed with looms, but can't make anything without one. xoxo Su
You little silly! Your little shoe looks good. Sometimes you have to use a different hook size. I've found that out that some hooks the patterns recommend are just wrong. Your bag is darling! Glad you popped in to see me.
Be a sweetie,
Shelia :)
Nothing much better than having a "house full of little boys"..
where are they living now.? Hope they are close.
I used to crochet a little bit...never learned to knit.
Happy week....
I never could crochet, my grandmother tried to teach me I never could hold the thread correct to get the stitches correct, both my younger sisters just took right to it .
My mother taught me to knit and crochet when I was young, but it's my Sis who keeps me inspired and challenges me to attempt projects, XOXO
In my youth I tried knitting and crocheting and was never good at either. I guess it wasn't enjoyable enough for me to continue. I have other talents as do you!!
hugs,
Linda
I used to crochet when I was younger, knit too... But I've grown too lazy for those. What a joyful post!
It's good to take up a new hobby! Good for you! I hope you'll post your efforts - believe me, you will get the hang of it and have hours of pleasure.
Well, I pretty much like them equally. I think that I am better at knitting, but I'm still a beginner at both. I can read knitting instructions, but when it comes to crocheting I need someone to show me the steps. I'm being a little bit crazy over at my blog this week, too. With my Depression Era Crazy Quilt.
Have a wonderful day.
Oh, Love your bag . . . Sew Pretty!
Connie :)
I really enjoy crocheting, as it keeps my hands occupied while the TV is on in the evening. And it's fun to complete a project.
I too like you little crocheted slippers Diane! I love crocheting better than knitting. I am working on crocheting a lap blanket right now. We got dumped with 26 inches of snow. So crocheting will keep me busy. Take care and have a lovely week.

haha This reminds of when I first learned to knit (or rather, someone tried to teach me how to knit) years and years ago. I started with socks (eek) and managed to finish one, with lots of help. Then we moved away and I never started the second one.
Crocheting I find faster and easier. But I'm not that great with either. I did take a knitting course a couple of years ago and learned to cable so I made scarves for everyone. Decreases and increases baffle me.
Your crocheted slipper is darling and you will get the hang of it with enough practice.
I prefer to crochet than knit, although it depends on mood. Sometimes, I just want to knit. My hands get very tired crocheting these days. Sewing is, I think, your first love.
Afternoon, never crocheted but did try knitting. Love slippers that were knitted, cozy.Blessings Francine.
I like to knit and crochet both equally, for different reasons. The extra lacy look available with knitting is so exciting to me. I haven't mastered the dollie slippers either - I found some with that cute crocodile stitch and want to try that too - so far - no luck. Your yarn and needle bag is simply darling - love the colors too. Maybe you will feel more confident with such a pretty bag - and conquer those little slippers. Hope your week is wonderful and full of fun my dear friend.
That's impressive that you taught yourself to crochet!
I love the little bag you made. It's super cute!
I am working on learning to crochet at the moment and hope it does come to me one day! Thank heavens for YouTube Diane.
At least you can sew and you've made a pretty bag for your crafting supplies.
Diane, I prefer crocheting to knitting. I make less mistakes with crocheting. :-)
Love the pink bag!
Knitting! :) I've been knitting since I was 6 yrs. old. I taught myself to crochet, but have not crocheted in a few years. It's FuN to find a project & work on it.

Neither one! I can't do anything ... That is why I was a working mother , because I didn't have many homemaking talents ;))! (I did cook ... And clean when I had to.). My houseful of boys and one girl survived! Now I kinda wish I'd had time to learn some crafty skills, but I think that ship has sailed.
I once learned to crochet from a book. Found it was a hard way to learn. I'm not good with diagrams.
Love the bag you made to hold your yarn. I crochet, mostly doll clothes. I think you might like the doll slipper better if you used #10 crochet thread. The yarn you used is a little heavy for that size slipper. Betty

I prefer crochet as well. Except for scarves. They are so much softer and nicer when knit. Keep warm!

What a lovely mosaic, Diane! The bag you made is really pretty and looks very practical.
I love knitting... simple items. It's very relaxing.
Have a lovely week! Hugs!
Wow self-taught...you are really gifted. I tried with lessons but it didn't take! ;)

I never learned to crochet but have made a few simple knitted things although it's been a few years. When at first you don't succeed....well, you know the rest! Your little bag is just adorable!
Hi,
I knit, very simple items. Dish clothes and scarves are my specialty. LOL
I LOVE your cute bag.
Carla
I like sewing, but I don't have much time for it anymore. I've never learned to crochet, and my knitting is very, very bad. I do sometimes get jealous when I see all the neat things my fellow bloggers make.
Diane, ALAS I cannot do either ! I have tried and tried for years but for some reason I just cannot grasp it , so I reckon Ill stick to sewing :) Wishing you a wonderful week ~Hugs Angela
A very pretty little bag! I taught myself crochet from Women's Day magazine when I was a young mother, too. I laughed about the one slipper. I tried to crochet some hearts last night and they came out all lopsided! You could always make a little handle and call it a dolly basket! Lol! xx Karen
I admire your skills….I know nothing about sewing, knitting or crocheting! I like your cute bag. I still get compliments all the time about the purse you made. :D
Hi Diane, Love your darling little bag!! Your creations are so cute. I like to crochet and that's what a do most of the time. My grandmother taught me to knit and crochet but I can only do a plain pattern with knitting and do not do much at all except for a few pot holders or hot pads. I love to crochet broomstick lace or shell stitch and usually have a throw going for my shop at all times. Keep trying Diane, I like what Karen said about adding little handles and making it a little purse or basket for your dolls.
Have a great day! xo
I can crochet but have never been able to knit?
respond to my comment I need to ask you a question
