A Pileated Woodpecker on the Golf Course

I stood in my courtyard and watched this big beautiful Pileated Woodpecker the other day.

He seems to have found something good to eat at the base of the tree.

You just never know what might be under a leaf or two! Peck Peck!!!

But then there might be something better up in the tree.

wIMG_0359

Is it worth it to make the climb?

wIMG_0369

Looks like a lot of effort!

wIMG_0373

Maybe it would be more fun to play a round of golf!

I’m joining Saturday’s critters HERE

and I’d Rather B Birdin’.

Have fun and enjoy your weekend!

(Have you noticed how many ‘talking birds’ there are here in Florida?)

Hello, great captions and series of woodie photos. I love the Pileated Woodpecker, always an awesome bird to see.

The woodies do love the peanuts.

Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Happy Saturday, enjoy your weekend!

Diane, I love your "talking" birds. You crack me up girl. I would love to see a woodpecker like that . We have hairy back woodpeckers and yellow bellied sap suckers..sort like a wood pecker I guess. We have red-headed woodpeckers too. Actually when we moved here we had a tree that was a woodpecker condo...so many holes in it. We had that tree removed. Glad you are enjoying life around you there in Florida. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

I have only seen this bird one time, when we lived in Texas.
Great post!

Have you ever wondered if woodpeckers get headaches from all that pecking?

Oh, he is a beauty, Diane. I see lots of woodpeckers at the trail, and they look a bit different than this. Our have a red round head, and this one looks like "woody woodpecker." He's so cute.

hi Diane, that was a neat post. You got some good pictures! Speaking of woodpeckers...have you heard of the "Lord God" bird? I first read about it in a Eugenie Price novel. (have you read her---love her books---historical/romance novels with a Christian slant--the ones I've read seem to all be set in the 1700s and 1800s in Savannah and the deep South) and then I recently read some more about it and it really is a real bird. They are supposed to be very big. I think they said they are in the forests in florida and south carolina....but not sure. I know some of those woodpeckers are very rare and we always have bird watchers out here in the most remote areas searching for some kind of woodpecker that is supposed to be extinct....but there have been sightings. And now they are offering a big reward to anyone who sees and can document one. Interesting stuff. Hope you are having a real nice weekend! It's cooled some here......such a nice reversal from last week's sweltering temps! Mercy it was HOT

The small body of the bird on the big trunk of the tree, the black and red colors of the woodpecker on the green background of the tree - beautiful!
Your photos are of professional quality and the captions are smart.

Awesome photos of the pileated woodpecker. I love watching them and listening to them when they visit our garden.

I've never seen one of these great woodpeckers but have seen how quickly they can turn a rotting tree trunk to sawdust!

Beautiful my friend. I've gotten a few pictures of pileated woodpeckers - but never this clear or this close. What a glorious bird. Hope you have a grand week ahead my dear.

Your camera sure takes amazing shots. That's one beautiful bird. My "Josie" prefers older cartoons and her absolute favorite cartoon is Woody Woodpecker. She'd love to see your post.

Woodpeckers are all handsome and your Pileated Woodpecker is the most handsome, I think. I can't imagine how you take such closeup bird photos.
