We took a hike…the shortest hike of the year!
(and no, I won’t count it!)
It was short drive down a dirt road and a short hike to the end of a boardwalk.
And the bugs were biting! We hiked in ‘double time’, took a few photos and raced back to the car.
We had a natural repellant on but these were ‘swamp insects’ and they were out for blood!
So what did we see?
The Goethe Giant!
Florida’s seventh largest Cypress tree, an estimated 907 years old, measuring 28.5 feet in circumference and 87.5 feet tall.
AMAZING!!!
And well worth the quick hike!
More Info on Big Cypress trail is HERE.
I'm joining Tex for Good Fences!

Hello, LOL, I have done those quick hikes too. Running from the bugs, they seem to follow you! I love the big old cypress tree! Nice shot of you and the hubs posing with the tree. Happy Thursday, enjoy your day and the weekend ahead!
wow, what a neat tree! sorry for the bugs, though!
Be careful....try Off with Deet as that is the only thing that will really work...not healthy probably but either are those diseases some of those bugs carry! I use it and it keeps them off but then I come in and take a bath right away. Of course, I'm sure it's already absorbed into my skin but mostly I try to spray it on my clothes, shoes and socks.
When I was in Central America years ago and traveling by horseback there were HUGE trees that you could stand in front of on your horse and still no one could see you from the other side. I don't know what type of tree but they were like the giant sequoias. Doesn't it make you wish you could view everything that tree has seen in all those years? That would be quite a film!
Hello!:) What a huge old tree, and nice photos of you and your hubby. Shame about those pesky bugs, but you got some great photos of the gigantic Cypress,..but best to walk this trail in the winter months perhaps!:)
A new world for me. I love it. The tree is amazinga and also the color in your photos. Love it! (via Good Fences)
I know...The bugs are sooo bad now. Who can imagine a tree 900 years old!
Thank you for your kind words on the Orlando tragedy...What a tough time!
Carol
Very cool tree. Go ahead-- count that hike!
I know those biting creatures well.
Hi there! Wow this looks like an amazing time!! What a fun looking hike! Cute pictures of you and the hubby :) Wishing you a lovely rest of the week-end! xo Holly
What a great tree! You guys look tiny standing by it!
Well done for making the effort in spite of those hungry bugs! The tree is definitely well worth seeing ! Amazing to think it's so old!
Glad you saw the big tree...and yep, come summertime, I carry a can of Deep Woods OFF in my bag.....
I'm so happy that you were able to get some great photos, but I'm terribly sorry about the bugs :( Enjoy the upcoming weekend. Hugs!
Diane, I bet seeing that big tree was worth a few bites...but oh I would be running too. :):) Maybe you'll get a longer hike in this weekend. Blessings sweet girl, xoxo, Susie
Amazing area Diane. Glad you shared the trek with us.
Geepers that tree is old!! Watch out for those skeeter bites..no telling what disease they are carrying.
Have a nice weekend!
Loved taking this journey, but would not have liked the bugs. The mosquitos are really bad here this year.
That is an impressive looking tree. To bad about the bugs biting.
Wow, what an amazing tree! But I'm sorry the bugs were so unfriendly. I'm glad you got a quick hike, even if it's one that doesn't count. Lol Have a wonderful evening. xo
That was very cool to see. Thanks for sharing. Enjoy your weekend!!!
I remember such a hike through on a trail in Assateague several years ago, never moved so fast :) Your photos are lovely for your quick walk, and that is one big beautiful tree.
Well, that was worth the walk. What an amazing tree. Hot here. 90 F, but it is a dry heat; we have very low humidity, thankfully, and a nice breeze much of the time. Glad that you got out to walk some.
what a beautiful place...but those bugs will kill you!!!
I understand the short walk, but it was a pretty one and a pretty amazing tree. Per your comment on my post, I agree completely with the fan sound, I find them so soothing day or night, and yes, love sleeping to the sound of one.
That looks so tropical....and impressive, love how you get to so many places of interest.
we went to an outlet today....about an hour away. It was a lovely day. the clouds were heavenly! and we had a nice 'together' time to just talk.
Hi Diane,
Looks like a great hike and loved the big tree.
It is annoying to have insects that bite though
happy weekend
hugs
Carolyn
Un lugar precioso!!!!!
I hate bugs. The older I get the more I dislike them. Understandable it was a fast hike. :)
The bugs are so bad!!!!
