“Mount Elbert at 14,440 ft is the highest summit of the Sawatch Range and the second-highest summit in the contiguous United States after Mount Whitney.” More info HERE at Wikipedia.
Do I get to add it to my list of hikes this year? Not exactly! Unless I can take credit for what my ‘kids’ do! heehee! Two of my sons hiked Mt. Elbert this week and sent me photos in a text. How neat is that?
It was great fun to talk to them the next day while they were recovering too! It was quite an adventure and I’m so proud of them!
All snow pics courtesy of my kids!
Our hiking is still on hold because of the HOT HOT temps here in Florida. (mid 90s every day) I am still trying to walk every evening but I ‘wimped’ out last night and only walked for 15 minutes. Even at sunset it was still too hot and humid…with no breeze. That will change this week when the tropical storm blows through. But we’re hoping it brings much needed rain and no damaging winds.
(sunset over the golf course here in FL, taken by me! lol)
Last week was an interesting week. And I even have Open Live Writer again! Hallelujah!!!
What’s new with you?
Be well and be safe!

Wow those photos are so nice and such a pretty mountain. Yes I would say 90 degrees is too hot to be out. I hope you stay cool this week Diane.
Cool mix of photos! 15 minutes in the heat and humidity is pretty impressive!
A hike like that one is best experienced vicariously!! :)
I hope the hot spell breaks for you, but I hope it breaks gently.
How cool! Looks like you and your hubby imparted your love of hiking. :)
Oh my goodness that sunset is gorgeous!
And it is ever so neat your boys do that kind of hiking! That's a big feat to be sure! Thanks for being such a loyal reader! Hugs. ♥
So hot already! I hope you get some walks in as I know you love them.
hugs!!
Diane, I am praying for all of Florida. It's sounding scary. Our granddaughter Sierra lives on the west coast. She's been in the last flooding rain season you have had there. I love the hike your sons took. Wow, quiet an accomplishment. Blessings to you, be safe. xoxo, Susie
We've had so much rain and now the temps for the week are all in the 90's. Talk about humid. Hope yours breaks soon,
Beautiful photos.

Very pretty! Raining hard here in Tallahassee because of the tropical storm.
Wow that's a lot of snow. Good for them hiking in it. Pretty photos!
Never tried hiking, but did walk a lot in the past. Gotta get back into the habit as it is good for us all. Loved seeing all the pretty areas you shared.
Wow. Hiking in snow in June! :) I think I'd rather hike where you live Diane. Gorgeous sunset!
That sounds like quite an accomplishment for them! Wow!
I heard about that storm heading for Florida. I hope it does more good than harm! Stay safe!
Looks like there was still a lot of snow up there - wow! Enjoy your week - hope it cools off.
Fun! I am proud of your boys too!
I am proud of you for trying to walk in the heat and humidity, that is not easy.
I like your photo.
Keep us posted on the storm.

Congrats to your sons--''thats a cool accomplishment! Just saw Colin on the news---looked pretty rough in clearwater---- let me know yall are ok when you get a chance ok plz?
Wow...what a hike that certainly must have been! You have some brave boys! We haven't made it into the 90's yet but we have been close...with very high humidity the past few days. That sunset is glorious...the humidity usually creates some beautiful evening skies! Stay safe during those storms, my friend...hugs!
Wow, that's great that your sons climbed Mount Elbert, Diane! To see the snow at the peak of the mountain must be a sight. Nel climbed Mount Shasta twice with her dad. It takes a lot to climb these big mountains, what a great achievement for your sons to do this.

Love the SNOW! Congrats to your kids for making it! What an adventure! Great pictures and I love your sunset one. Stay safe in the storms.
Oh my - what a wonderful post about your kids and their hike - that's quite an accomplishment. Mt. Ranier in WA is not far behind your mountain at 14,416 feet.
It has been warmish here (cool compared to your temperatures) but is going to get cooler again for a week or so. Maybe with the clouds will have some pretty sunsets like yours.
See you on Wednesday sweet friend.
Beautiful scenery there and quite impressive that your kids hiked that mountain! Wow! Just looking at that snow cools you down! xx K
The Sawatch range is a beautiful range of mountains in Colorado, Diane, that I've seen quite a few times since moving here. Congratulations to your sons for hiking up to the top! That is a wonderful feat!
