I stepped out into our courtyard to take these photos.
This beautiful Red Shouldered Hawk lit up in the top of a pine tree on the edge of the golf course.
And I zoomed as much as I could to get some good pics.
A Mockingbird swooped in to try to scare the hawk away.
But it didn’t budge.
Another day, I took these from INSIDE my house.
Looking out at the courtyard, I spotted these 2 ‘interacting’.
I know this snake is harmless but I still don’t like to see a snake, do you?
Well actually…
this dove said, I’m not skeeered at all!
But let’s do what the hawk did and FLY!

Hello, Diane! Awesome captures of the Hawk. The hawk does not seemed bothered by the Mockingbird. The snake and dove are amazing, I wonder did the Dove even see the snake at first. You, my friend, are the queen of taking pictures of animals. Wow, what great shots. The hawk is a real beauty and that snake with the bird....well, I would have stayed inside too :)

That is one brave mockingbird...or stupid. I guess it depends on how you look at it. I love those hawks, we have several in our area and they are so beautiful.
What great pictures! The hawk looks cool sitting in the top of that tree. And the snake! No, I don't like seeing snakes, even harmless ones.

Funny how something that creeps and crawls makes most folks cringe a little while something that flies makes the heart soar.

I am definitely not a snake person. UGH!!! Glad it slithered off. I miss seeing the birds outside my window at the feeders, but unfortunately I am in a third floor apartment so that isn't possible. Great photos, my friend. xo Laura
I woulda been thrilled to no end if that hawk captured that nasty slithery creature. Ewwww, how I hate snakes. Yes, hate. LOL
Beautiful hawk and to have it so nearby your home/in your view. Wow. I have to drive miles to even HOPE to see a hawk.
Love the dove too. {Mockingbirds have a reputation for being very territorial}

Mockingbirds crack me up! Well actually the Hawks do too because it's like they run from the mockingbirds.🌿☀️
Goodness Diane, so are impressive action shots. Brave little mockingbird and I can't imagine what it must be like to be eye level and that small to see a snake making its way towards me. He made the right choice :)
Great photos. I was out walking a couple of days ago and saw a strange black bird down by the Silverstream. I'm sure it was a shag (cormorant) but never had my camera with me to get a pic. Not their usual habitat at all.

Hello Diane!:) Oh my! Fabulous captures one doesn't see every day. Great R S Hawk photos, I think he might have chosen to sit on the Mocking birds favourite perch, and he/she wanted it back!!:) The snake with it's raised head seems to be in attack mode, but moved on when the dove stayed perfectly still and wasn't a threat, but what wonderful pictures to see from your window. I really enjoyed the spectacle. Have a great Sunday!:)
Oh gosh you managed to get some wonderful shots of the hawk. I find it really difficult to get them in flight.
I don't think we have wood boring bees like you. Don't know if I'd fancy them making holes in my house, at least the leaf-cutters are harmless.

The Red-shouldered Hawk is a great bird to see just by stepping outside the door. I'm supposing there's lots of food for hawk on the golf course, including snakes.

Great post! you know I like ALL OF YOUR posts, right? (smile) Dang Diane that IS ONE BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIG SNAKE. What kind is it? I nearly stepped on a snake in a big deep grassy area on a path to the beach last fall....and that dang thing scared me so bad........it just slithered off. I probably scared the heck out of it too! ha ha
I can put up with most anything, but I don't like snakes either! I'm always on the look out, especially for copperheads. Birds are a good thing to keep around. XOXO
Oh my, the mourning dove is such a peaceful bird. I see them around here all the time. It didn't scare away from that snake, did it? That is really an interesting picture, Diane. There's something very special about this bird, indeed.

Great pictures which give a wonderful insight of where you live. Being from Ireland where there are no snakes we grow up fearing them as they are the subject of many horror stories. Living in North America I have grown to have a respect for them and tell myself they have been around since the beginning and here is room for everyone.

Sunday I was sitting in the dining room looking out and watched a black racer streaking from one hidey spot to another. It was a good 4' long. Beautiful. Never would have caught it though. When it was visible it was moving too fast.
(Besides, I was comfortable, enjoying my coffee)

Wowzee Wow wow wow! Great shots - love the hawk photos - every one of them. And the snake and the dove - terrific. I don't mind snakes - so long as they are not poisonous and want to bite me.
