It’s an exciting time of year to be in Florida. We can always count of seeing lots of birds, many migrating through this area on their way to Mexico or South America (and some just to winter in Florida).
We had beautiful weather last weekend to take a nice long hike at Halpata Tastanaki Preserve and we spotted this Yellow-Bellied Flycatcher.
We weren’t sure why we were seeing so much lemon yellow on the breast of a Flycatcher until we got home and did a search online.
I ‘danced’ around under this tree,
trying to get a better shot! lol
Of course we saw several of our usual Flycatchers…
but it’s always fun to see a bird for the very first time!

Hello Diane, it is great to see the migrating birds heading for their winter homes. The Yellow-bellied Flycatcher is a beautiful bird. Great sightings and photos. The Preserve looks like a pretty spot for a walk and some birding.

Hello Diane!:) Seeing a bird for the first time is so exciting ( that doesn't read right):))) a new species I mean. When I saw my first Fly catcher, I was over the moon with excitement. I have never seen the Yellow-bellied one though. It's a beautiful bird and you got some great captures. Have a great weekend!:)

Lovely captures of this pretty bird! I've never seen one here. We have a white-breasted nuthatch at our feeders every day now and it never came much before so I'm pleased with that. Another cold rainy day here in the Maritimes. xo Pam

Last week I got a great photo of a Red shouldered hawk--from the back side--then a couple days later I spotted him again and seen him sitting up on a wire across the street--so went out with the camera and got some shots of him from the front--now to catch him with his wings spread would make my day--

I love seeing a flock of geese flying south in a V formation this time of year.I also like visiting different parts of the country and seeing a bird that is new to me.
I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We are heading to Florida too after Christmas to play golf.
That's a great sighting Diane. It's lovely to know the birds leaving here for the winter will perhaps be spotted by you. I just read that 3 piping plovers have left a park here and perhaps heading down to Florida. They have 3 bands on their legs and the folks are looking to track them. Maybe you will see them.

Gosh, Diane, I cannot believe that i have missed so many of your posts. You have 4 very handsome sons and pretty cute grandchildren. It is very nice to meet your family. Great photos, too, of the flycatcher. Ours here, if we see them, are just gray little birds flitting about the yard catching flies and bugs. Nice to have you back.

So we've been on the beach and doing alot of walking too. Gotta burn off all that pie and mashed "taters"! LOL

Great images. I really liked the fact you showed us a photo of the wildlife reserve too. It helps us 'see' the area much better.

Ooooo, yellow birds always get to me, they're so unusual. The Yellow-Bellied Flycatcher is a beauty, isn't she? I can't believe it didn't fly away while you were dancing under the tree to take its picture haha. Must be a brave bird.
