The Lavender Cottage

Let's walk out the front door and look at the flowers my sweet hubby has planted this year.

He has felt so much better and he really loves to garden.

We don't have a place for veggies here but he stays busy caring for our flowers.

And look at this Vinca that came up 'volunteer' in the culvert that runs under our driveway.

We have a mowing crew that cuts our grass and they've been careful not to trim it when they edge the driveway.

How many of you grow 'knock out roses'? (we have doubles and singles...most of them red!) They sure are great for the hot humid conditions here. And for anyone visiting that might be new...YES, my house really is lavender!

I’m joining Mosaic Monday HERE.

I did not realize your home was really lavender. My favorite children's book (4th grade teacher for many years) was a book called Love, Ruby Lavender. I think the author of that book really has some shade of purple on her own house's shutters.
The flowers look great. I keep trying to grow roses other than knockout in my neck of the woods. It is just a bit too humid for them. I really need to give up and go with the knockouts.

We have knockouts but I they have never been truly happy here, not sure why. We've fertilized, fortified, trimmed dead canes... does'nt seem to matter.

Lovely spaces you two have created.

We too grow knock-out roses. Your flowers are gorgeous, what a pretty sight when you open your front door! I must confess...our flower beds are somewhat neglected this year, due to my health and ....and....fear of ticks! This is the first summer we've been warned about them and it doesn't sit well with me...haha.

Your lavender home must be so pretty, reminds me of the Lavender Blue....dilly dilly, song I've always liked.

Your husband has a green thumb! The flowers are lush with color. Our knockout roses are not producing like they once did. I intend to work on them this morning, pruning back the spent blooms. They have been in the ground for at least 7 or more years. I think I may replace them this next fall. They just haven't performed as they once did.
Have a great week.

Yes I do have some knock out roses, our climate is hot and dry, but with the help of irrigation they do beautifully. Your entryway looks so inviting, the flower garden is lovely :) I'm happy to hear that your hubby is feeling better and able to enjoy gardening.
Happy Summer!
Connie :)

Your flowers are looking wonderful. I'm so glad your husband is feeling better. We do have knock out Roses here and they grow so well but the deer like the tender bits also. We have a lot of Vinca that grows and lots of volunteers also. The deer don't eat them so they are some of our favorite plants! Hugs!

Everything is so pretty at your cottage! I just love your volunteer periwinkles. It's always fun when something pops up unexpectedly. We do not have Knock Outs now unfortunately. In North Texas we have mites that are spreading a virus and killing all of the Knock Outs. It's terrible to see it happening. We had them in the past and just loved them.

Your husband does a great job with the flowers, Diana. I have two single knockout rose bushes. They did great this spring, but are taking a break now. I love that your landscaping folks are leaving the pretty vinca in place. Have a great week. ♥

I'm so glad your husband is feeling well enough to garden. He's doing a beautiful job - please congratulate him for me! How fun to have a volunteer vinca that the gardeners watch out for.

Your front entrance is so welcoming with those beautiful flowers lining the sidewalk! Wow!!

That is such great news about "Mr.Lavender." We love it that he is a gardener too! The flowers which greet you every time you open the front door are beautiful! We have knock-out roses, and they tend to take over if we let them. We cut more than a foot off them on Saturday to bring them under control. Sometimes we have to take them by the throat! Ha! Ha! Happy gardening!

The purple flowers on your front porch are beautiful, Diane. Your husband did a nice job gardening in front. I can't really tell that your house is lavender from looking on the screen, how delightful. Would love to see it in person. Thanks for giving us a peek to your home, it's really nice.

love, ~Sheri

by the way, I've been wanting to have French toast lately, but I'm out of syrup hehehe. Glad yours was good with the sourdough bread. I haven't saw the new Beauty and the Beast movie yet, but I heard it was so good. (it's my favorite Disney movie) : )

Amazing where flowers pop up.
We, have knock out roses. They were here when we first moved here but I thought there were way too many of them so dug up a bunch. Gave some away and threw a bunch away.
I still have about 15 of them.

Whoa, love your beautiful flowers that your dh planted.
Such a pretty mosaic. This heat we have been having has been so hard on our garden. Then we had a wind storm come through and we lost our 18 year old pine tree.

A pretty lavender cottage sis and the entry way is lovely with the pots flanking the door.
I have pink carpet roses lining our front walkway which I think are similar - tough plants that bloom all summer long.

Howdy my sweet friend! Love those pretty flowers, they look great! HOw often y'all have to water down there? We've had so much rain here and with the heat it's like a jungle for sure. The flowers are so big and wild! Out of control. But the heat and rain is awful for increasing the dang "skeeters" oh my word they are agressive little varmits!! Are they bad there? Here I've resorted to SHOES AND SOCKS or they will eat my feet alive...and I miss wearing my summer open shoes! i'VE ALso taken to wearing long pants and jeans...those darn mosquitoes love my legs that is for sure, LOL. And long sleeves....so I'm always on the look out for sheer/lightweight long sleeves so I dont roast to pieces but still protected from the agressive lil varmits, ha ha LOL Dont need all that if you stay inside you would think---but they do wait at the doors I swear they do....and then slip inside when you go in and out. I do hate mosquitoes! I read a few of the books on the post and they were good! I know about the magazines........SO DARN EXPENSIVE NOW. Used to could magazines for a couple dollars, those days are gone. I do NOT BUY AT THE STORES---I subscribe and wait for great deals. I get so many of my better magazines for only ten dollars a year!!--and the cost of one at the store is usually almost five dollars, so it's almost like you pay for two magazines and get the rest of the year free! I am a magazine junkie---always have been! LOL Which are your favorites?

To this I say, "Go, husband!" Wow, that's really so very beautiful. And you're lucky that it's his interest too. You must smile every time you walk out the door!

I planted knock out roses in our backyard garden last year. They stayed alive and produce roses but Colorado climate is a little harder on them. I had to wrap them in chicken wire to prevent the deer from eating them.
