Birds and a Feather

I don't take good photos of the birds at our feeders because of shooting through the glass (that isn't always clean)!

(Ground Dove and House Finch)

If I go out into the courtyard, I scare them away!

But we do see some neat birds there, especially in the winter months. Lots of Goldfinches now!

We even saw a Baltimore Oriole one day last week but didn't get a photo of it. I hope it will visit again soon.

The pitiful bird I saw was probably a sick bird so I've deleted some of the photos. Thanks to my hubby and to David G. for letting me know. My husband told me first but as he will be the first to let you know....I never listen! lol

We are not seeing quite as many birds out on the trails but that should change in the next few weeks.

Lots of Warblers at the feeders!

Always something neat to see in nature.

And they are always hungry!

This Hawk was in the tree behind the house.

I'm not sure what bird this white feather came from but it was pretty on the trail.

We're still hiking just about every other day and enjoying the beautiful weather.

I hope you are all safe and snug during this winter storm that has hit the US! Take care and enjoy your weekend!

I’m joining Saturday’s critters HERE

and I’d Rather B Birdin’.

We have a limited number of birds at our feeder: blue jays, titmouse, chickadee and juncoes. We can't keep the feeders up come spring because of bears I"m told.
You have quite an assortment there.

What beautiful pictures of your birds! They all look like they'll appreciate spring too. Here in northern-most Indiana we're keeping warm. The subtle signs of spring are out there but you have to feel, see & smell very carefully to notice them. Spring is on her way. :-) ~Andrea xoxo

I love the doves....we had some that lived at our house in Point Mallard. I love that they have a partner. They can make a mess but they are sweet bird. And gold finches are another favorite of mine. We had some at Grimmwood one day and we thought someone had lost a parakeet. That is how well we know our birds.lol But you have taught me a lot with your blog, Diane. I am learning.

Hello,

I would enjoy a walk in the warm sunny Florida weather right now. We are expecting more snow/sleet and freezing rain later today. Love the Hawk and warblers. The Ground Dove and Goldfinches are so cute! Great collection of birds and photos. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, have a happy weekend! PS, thank you for leaving me a comment.

We are seeing a lot of goldfinches too, but they aren't very bright golden yet. Our bluebirds apparently decided to move on...I am really disappointed. They haven't been back for 3 days. We are getting some wonderful rain now, and probably will for a while, so you may not be able to hike for a few days...Maybe you can have a Valentine's Party with your dollies!! Let me know if you do! Love your pictures...and your window must not be too dirty at all...I can see the birds just fine! (I have the same issue here, so I can totally commiserate!)

Badddddd hawk!!!!

I know, it is Nature's Way. But not in my yard! -grumble-

I love it, when bloggers say, that their windows are not always perfectly clean, and clear, to take pics through! Yesss! Truth in blogging! And we all know, ours are not always sparkling.

Actually, when are mine ever????? >,-)

I need a bird feeder. Hubby doesn’t like the mess they make, and when I had one in Houston, he saw a rat below it eating the scattered bird seed. Sorry, that sounded very negative....You have so many pretty birds to watch over in Florida. There was a huge flock of robins in the yard this week...They may not have checked the weather report before flying north. Brr Texas is freezing. Guess you saw the horrific wreck here in Ft Worth due to ice...

These are super photos of those darling birds. Love the feather photo at the end :)

You have a nice variety of birds in your yard! We won't see the Goldfinches again for a couple of months!

I love seeing your posts because it has been the grayest of winters here in Central Alabama! UGH! I drew a European goldfinch not too long ago....maybe I should post it soon!

I think you did rather well taking photos through glass, sometimes it's the only way to getthem

YI can only imagine how bad my pictures would look if I took them through the glass. These are all wonderful

I really enjoy all your bird-photos. (Clean windows are highly overrated ;-)) The hawk looks so impressive!
Hugs and best wishes from Austria (We also had a winter storm here... but only minor damage...)

I thought you did quite well with your photos.
I'm happy to be able to get outside and walk every day up and down the lane in the snow. So peaceful and quiet!!

I hope all your pretty little birds were safe from the hawk. I'll be so glad when this wicked cold goes away and the warm temps come back again. You have a wonderful day, hugs, Edna B.

Never mind Diane. At least you have all of those species to watch even if they are through glass. We have an opening window that looks out onto the garden that I can use for taking pictures by peeping through the blinds. Problem is, there are no birds on the feeders for weeks now.

That photo of the red tailed hawk as it's taking flight is so perfectly timed! Well done. Your yard birds are beautiful. (I'm envious of your good weather)

If you celebrate, happy Valentine's Day & thanks for joining us at I'd Rather B Birdin'.

I doubt very much that the goldfinch is a baby, since the species does not breed in Florida, and does not breed anywhere in mid winter. It looks like a sick bird to me.

Jenn Jilks said...

Aren't these wonderful? I'm so glad to see the birds more active.

Happy Valentine's day! Lovely bird photos but I do feel sorry for the goldfinch. Oh, to be in Florida right now! I say that while watching the snow falling outside my window.💖

You have so many variety of birds visiting your place. Hope the hawk is not eyeing the other smaller birds. That is a pretty white feather. Enjoy your daily hike. Stay warm and stay safe. Over here, our weather is getting hotter.

Those are nice photos you took of the birds Diane. It's wonderful that you both can get out for those hikes. Hope you enjoy those walks and the rest of the week.

I understand about trying to take pictures through a dirty window. I tried it yesterday and then decided to clean the window. When I sprayed Windex, it froze into a solid sheet of ice and I couldn't get it off! I had to get warm water on a cloth from the sink to melt it away. The window looks worse than ever now. Don't follow my housecleaning tips.

You saw a white feather! I think that's a special and wonderful thing. I haven't seen a lot of birds here yet, but I think they will return in Spring. Those yellow birds are so pretty and precious. My neighbor has a feeder in her front yard, and I saw a hummingbird through my window last week. It was a beautiful sight. Your bird photos always bring a smile to my face, Diane.
