The Painted Lady butterfly

I still marvel that I can get out in nature and see something I've never seen before. I took a sandwich to Shangri-La campground to have a little picnic one day and see what the day would hold.

Painted Lady Butterfly

Isn't the underside of this butterfly amazing?

After I ate I went on a little hike. And I turned down a trail that I had never been on before. There was a pile of limbs and wildflowers had grown up around them. It wasn't very easy to get photos.

But the wildflowers were attracting lots of butterflies and moths.

Gulf Fritillary

And I had never seen the Painted Lady butterfly before so that was something to celebrate!

Lots of little Warblers in the forest now.

And isn't this little Sparrow precious?

I love the small birds we see here in Florida.

A mosaic to share.

We still have roses blooming so I made myself a pretty arrangement.

Enjoy your week and spend time in nature whenever you can.

Do you have a new camera? These photos and your header are exceptionally clear. It's a little chilly out there, Diane. Not likely I'll be out in nature any time soon. ☺️ I'll enjoy your adventures.

You have taken pretty moth and butterfly photos. The Gulf Fritillary (sp?) is elegant, like an evening gown.

I am familiar with the Painted Lady. It's a migratory butterfly in Europe and travels huge distances in Spring and Autumn. A nice set of photos Diane. Enjoy your weekend. And give my Jeep a polish when you have time!

Okay, I am officially jealous. I've been trying to get an acceptable photograph of a Painted Lady (the butterfly, that is!) for years with no luck. Your image is superb! What a beauty!

Love the Palm Warbler and Chipping Sparrow. Two signs in Florida that "winter" is here.

Thank you so much, Diane, for sharing a bit of your local Nature!

Such beautiful shots of the butterflies. I look forward to your wonderful posts each week especially now that it is so cold and monotone here.

Hello,
We have Painted Lady here in Wisconsin in the summer. A few years ago during migration they stopped in by the 100's. It honestly was the most amazing sight.
I do love the pop of color the Gulf Fritillary gives you. :-)

Your nature photos are very beautiful, especially the butterflies. We don’t see them in winter at all up here in the North.

That Painted Lady Butterfly is a glorious butterfly, and the name is perfect for it. Love that little birdhouse in the woods, and yes, the little sparrows are precious. The orange butterfly is so pretty also. And your table arrangement with the red roses just looks Christmassy. I always love to see them, cause they are just the right color of red.

Have a pleasant weekend, Diane.

You are seeing some wonderful butterflies and birds! I haven't been out much the past few weeks so I'm missing them. I need to get back into my walking routine, but we are at Dixie Cottage most every morning and afternoons are for catch up at home. And then it gets dark so early. I'm glad you are out there seeing the beauty and sharing it with us. Thank you!!!

I am quite confident that you could go out into nature every minute of every day and find something new. Just dig up a square metre of soil for a start.

Diane - it is always stunning to me how different our weather can be across the same country! It was lightly snowing today, adding to the fifteen inches we already have. Long way from any butterflies or moths here! Your photos are gorgeous! So glad you added a new creature to your life list! Merry Christmas, my friend!

As I look out our windows at a very rainy and chilly day, seeing these beauties was quite wonderful. When we lived in VA, butterflies were always a favorite photo subject. Thanks for sharing your hike, Diane.
