Most of my hikes take place on the Greenway.
It's close to my house and there are several trailheads where I can park to start a hike. I'm over 100 hikes for this year!
Pileated Woodpecker
I love these big noisy woodpeckers!
There are 3 trailheads less than 5 miles from me so it's quick and easy to drive over for a hike on the paved trail or on the many primitive trails in the forest.
And some of the trails have birds and critters that the other sections don't have. (or I don't see!)
So I thought I would share some of the sights I've seen over the past couple of weeks of hiking the Greenway.
The weather has improved and I'm back to hiking just about every other day. It sure feels great!

Red headed Woodpecker juvenile
Warbler (pine warbler I think)
And last but not least, Rufous-sided Towhees.
Florida towhees have the pale eye!
I saw about 6 of these birds flitting around.
They were a family of Towhees!
I named this one Scruffy!
We found a lot of these trails by going on the internet and searching and a few we found using google maps.
I hope you can find places close to your home to get out in nature. It's fun to do the research online!
It's a great time of the year to get outside.

the towhees are so cute and adorable, I have not seen them before. we are still hot/humid here, my close by is 10 miles, there are 3, but I don't like going by myself. plus its a 20 to 30 minute drive

Oh Diane!! Those shots of the pleated woodpecker!!--- love those! They seem so BIG AND STRONG. Love that first picture. We're able to porch sit alot more now without burning up and sweating -- its getting a little cooler! Yay!have a great weekend!

Excellent collection of woodpeckers. I hear the pileated woodie at the back of my property but don't seem to be able to capture pics of him. Your other bird shots are great too.

Scruffy is adorable and I agree, it's a great time to be outdoors. The heat is gone here in the California mountains and the weather is perfect. Have a nice weekend.
So nice to have a choice of convenient trails. In Florida we had only one, but it was just outside the entrance to our subdivision. This limited the diversity of habitats, but we got out before sunrise nearly every morning and so enjoyed our walks.

Love your shots of the woodpeckers. The only ones I see on a regular basis are the Downy Woodpeckers.
Hiking for me is usually around the city on sidewalks although One in a while I go down into the ravines the crisscross the city.

Over 100 hikes in a year is an impressive achievement. It's wonderful to see the variety of birds you've encountered!
You have nice trails and you’re so tough that you hike about every other day recently. Nice photos of different species of Woodpeckers. I haven’t seen any of them in person. Weather was not good for hiking in my part of the world, too humid, but soon it will change.

awesome collection of woodpeckers, they are all so beautiful. all are here in this area too, although i have never been lucky enough to see the pileated in my yard. the towhees are spectacular, the first image a real treasure!!

It is a wonderful time to be out on the trails here in Florida! So much to enjoy. Your bird collection is just one of the many reasons we love it here.
The temps are slowly inching down a bit and the mornings have been "almost" comfortable.

Dear Diane, I am amazed at the variety of woodpeckers you saw! I find the Pileated Woodpecker particularly striking. The color of his "hairdress" matches your Jeep perfectly. I didn't know Florida towhees at all and I only knew warblers from photos. In any case, it was a pleasure accompanying you. Here, too, the weather is beautiful in early autumn, but there are not that many birds to see. Maybe that's why I travel around so much...?

Beautiful bird shots- especially the woodpeckers...I haven't thought about there being more than one type. I learn something every day from all of my blog friends. I envy your walks...I am stuck to the indoors on a stationary bikeand a rebounder. It has been too blooming hot to go outdoors. Right now ithas been pouring so I am hoping for fall to finally come back.
Lots of different birds in your area. We don't see the Pileated Woodpecker here, only the Acorn Woodpecker, which is so lovely. I like that Pileated Woodpecker - he's so funny with his spiked hair. That's a terrific photo of the Florida towhee. Looks like you had a good day at the trail with nice weather!
