Even the name sounds like FUN and indeed it was one of the best experiences we've ever had camping in a Florida State Park! Website link HERE.
I can't resist the temptation to start in the middle of our May camping trip with the cutest critter we've ever seen!
I'm all set to go hiking!
And look who wants to come along!
There are White Squirrels at this park and they are very friendly.
It did not exactly follow me around,
but it did stop and pose for about a zillion photos!
A White Squirrel is a variation of the Eastern Gray Squirrel and not an albino.
We saw a few in Asheville, NC when we lived there but that's been years ago.
So I'll include some photos of the Ochlockonee River and save my bird photos for another post.
The trail to the river was just steps from the campsite!
It was just gorgeous walking the trails along the river.
And if there was any negative about our stay there, it was the newly hatched Deer Flies!
When I stayed on the open trails and felt the wind from the river, they were not a problem.
But you know me....I want to go deep into the forest and those hikes were limited.
We had done our research to find out about the park before we left and was so pleased to see the forest of Longleaf pines!
Thanks to everyone who leaves such sweet comments. And a special thanks this week to John from John's Island. He wrote a poem for me! Oh my! It doesn't get any more special than that! Thank you John! The poem is in my comments from last week.
Have you ever seen a white squirrel?
And on that note, I'll step away from the computer to go on another camping adventure. We are going to 2 different State Parks in Georgia this time, General Coffee State Park and Reed Bingham!
Have a beautiful month of June and I'll catch up with you all when we get back!

...that white squirrel is a charmer! Happy glamping to you Diane.
That squirrel was really the star of the show! Have fun on your next adventure!
My first ever view of a white squirrel or even that they exist. He sure is friendly and also never heard of sopchoppy and now I have. Love you camper
I've never seen (or even heard of) a white squirrel. What a cutie, and nice of him to pose for you!
I've never seen a white squirrel before. It's cute looking and nice that they are friendly. Happy hiking Diane.
Very beautiful place!! Love seeing that WHITE squirrel--- what a cutie!!! Bon voyage off on your new adventure--- have fun, be safe, and make lots of pictures for us please! Hope yall have great weather.
i have never seen a white squirrel, ours are gray and have the same behaviors. i am so happy you have been enjoying your camper and your camping trips. i am a white sheets and room service kind of girl!!! have fun on your new adventures!!
We had a white squirrel around the house where we used to live. I always thought it was an albino though.
We also had black squirrels.
What a lovely memory of the white squirrels in Asheville—and how wonderful to receive a poem from John; that kind of kindness truly makes a week feel special
Wat een prachtige foto's van de witte eekhoorn, dit heb ik nooit eerder gezien.
Ik wens je een mooi kampeer avontuur.
Groetjes Irma
Beautiful photos and wow, a white squirrel, how cute.
No, I have never seen a white squirrel before, and did not know they existed in Florida! What a treat to see one so up close and personal! He really is a cutie pie. Oh, those deer flies! I know, I had one buzzing around me this week too! I do NOT like them at all! I'm glad you were still able to enjoy your hikes and views. Looks like a beautiful place! Love the names. The only time I'd ever heard of Sopchoppy before was one of our former pastors when I was growing up had actually pastored a church there and talked about it in his sermons. That name stuck with me, but I've never been there. Looks like a beautiful place! Enjoy your trips! I hope you find some cooler weather somewhere!
No, I've never seen a white squirrel. How nice that this one was so accommodating about posing for pictures. He was quite the character. Beautiful view of the river.
Hello,
Another beautiful park with lovely views of the river! I have never seen a white squirrel. It is cute, it is nice the squirrel posed for you and your camera. Enjoy your camping trips. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, have a wonderful weekend.
White squirrels are new to me and I appreciate your photos and information. I wonder why that color doesn't make them easy prey, but perhaps they have adapted to life in a park where lots of humans scare away their predators. I need to learn more!

Hi Diane! I've never seen white squirrels before--they looked so special. They obviously know humans will feed them, as they are so forward and freindly, but who could resist giving them a treat? Have a wonderful week ahead!
I love seeing that white squirrel and the camping area sure does look beautiful too.
I have never seen a white squirrel before, and it's very cute! Here we have red squirrels, but not the the grey one. Hugs!
What a cute way to start off a camping trip. I don’t believe I’ve ever seen a white squirrel! Your photos are so beautiful. The one with the bench and the bridge are certainly frame worthy.
I love your white squirrel. At first I thought it was an albino, but no.
The white squirrel remind me of the white rat, which I have a dreadful fear of haha. My dearest blog friend, who doesn't blog anymore, used to see them all the time where she lives. It was really interesting when she used to show me pics of them. Have fun camping! I hope you come across many wonders on your trip.

Dear Diane,
Wow, your post absolutely made my day! Those white squirrels are simply enchanting 🐿️❄️ — such rare and charming little creatures! I love how friendly and photogenic they are, and your photos truly capture their magic. The Ochlockonee River State Park looks like a nature lover’s dream, especially with those beautiful Longleaf pines and peaceful river trails 🌲🌊.
Also, I was so touched to hear about the poem John wrote for you — that’s such a special gift, adding even more warmth to your wonderful adventures. Poetry and nature are a perfect match! 📜💖
Thank you for sharing these delightful moments. I’ve never seen a white squirrel in person, so you’ve definitely sparked my curiosity to find one someday! Wishing you many more fantastic camping trips in Georgia — can’t wait to see what you discover next!
Take care and happy trails!
Hugs, Traude 🌿✨🐾

There is a colony of white squirrels that live in a park downtown here so i have seen them a lot. They are quite famous in the west end of the city. Our grey squirrels are mostly the black colored ones.
Enjoy your trips!
I never saw a white squirrel and didn't even know they existed. What a cutie.
I never knew there were white squirrels, great photographs.
All the best Jan
Had never seen a white squirrel! Thank you for sharing beautiful photos of this critter!
Love your header.
Gorgeous photos, Diane!
I’ve never seen a white squirrel—what a cool sight! The trails by the river look amazing, and despite the deer flies, it sounds like a great spot. Can’t wait to hear about your next adventure!
These populations of white squirrels seem to pop up here and there. Exeter, Ontario is renowned for their white squirrels and I remember seeing them near Enterprise, Kansas many years ago. They are very appealing.
Enjoy your camping days. I really miss camping. We had a permanent set up in a quiet park in Door County,, WI and it was wonderful. I am so glad you can travel and enjoy this leg of life.
We had a white squirrel at one of our homes but it was definitely an albino. xo Diana
I never saw a white squirrel! Cute, and good at posing :)
How fascinating to see white squirrels. Just getting back to my website after health issues have kept me away. Hope you are keeping well.
The white squirrels are adorable, and those river views are stunning.
That white squirrel was a first for me. First thought it was albino. Have a nice camping trip.
aww.....White Squirrels.....amazing.
very rare and never seen the white squirrel in nature....
Have a great day!
He is absolutely adorable, I've never seen a white squirrel before, didn't even know there was such a thing :) Again, I worry about you and the alligators that you might encounter along your hikes . . . oh, do be careful!
I love our backyard squirrels and we feed them peanuts daily, one reason is because we like them, the second, it keeps them out of our garden pots. They become very friendly. I will look out the window and they will be standing on two legs, watching me through the kitchen window, hoping I'll bring them a peanut or two. The white squirrels are gorgeous. How wonderful you were able to photograph them and share with us.
Me encantaron las ardillas. Deseo que lo pases muy bien. Besos
I hope you are enjoying your camping adventure.
Early good wishes for a happy new month of June.
All the best Jan
Love the white squirrel!
Diane - a White Squirrel? Never in my life! How cool! Enjoy your next adventure!
the white critter looks so sweet.
i missed you today!!
I've never seen a white squirrel. Didn't even know there was such a thing! I enjoyed the pictures of a different Forida, one I might be tempted to visit!
I am so loving your camping adventures and how fun that you're venturing out of state now. But this Park~~~ what a fabulous place to wake up in. And isn't that just a great part of camping-- when you wake up, you're already there! ) I've never seen a white squirrel and now I really want to put this State Park on my list. (I'll first have to learn how to spell and say it!!)
Preciosa esa ardilla blanca, nunca he visto ardillas así. El reportaje precioso. Besos.
Never saw a white squirrel, Just the gray ones and black ones in Canada. Lovely photos. I'd like it there.
