The River Trail along the river is an easy hike and the most popular hiking trail in the park. Read more HERE.
I'm still working on photos from our camping trips from the early summer.
It's too hot to spend time outside so I'm blogging, reading AND decluttering and cleaning house.
So far I'm feeling good about my progress. These are photos from a hike on the river trail.
This gator is a young one and not very big.
Doesn't he look prehistoric with all of his bumps and ridges?
He was far down in the water...I zoomed!
And this is not even an alligator.
I always call these monsters when I see them in the river or the forest.
The bridge is like brand new now with all the repairs.
I even walked on it for a short distance....
and took this photo down the Santa Fe river.
Some pretty flowers along the trail,
and a Pileated Woodpecker high in the tree.
And at the trailhead where you park they've put in new playground equipment.
It would be a good spot for a picnic or relaxing with a good book.
And I've just finished my favorite book of the year so far!
My Friends by Fredric Backman.
I love all of the books he's written but this one stands out as my all time favorite!
Have you read any good books this summer?

...I have never been a fan of alligators, but I like the Swamp Titi, Cyrilla racemiflora and the Wild Potato Vine, Ipomoea pandurata! Diane, be well and cool.
You take such wonderful hikes into such beautiful parks. I enjoyed looking at your photos especially the gator and the river. I hope you stay cool and have a nice weekend. I put a hold on that book at my library. Thanks for the book rec!
i would like to be a reader but alas, i am not. i am a "maker" i enjoy all crafts and i am always so happy when i finish a project i am able to hold it in my hands or wear it (knitting)!! was this a trip you took recently in the heat, perhaps i missed that part. it's hard to stop doing something you love but the temps will cool and you will be back out on those trails in no time. and it will feel good knowing everything at home is in order!! beautiful images, have a wonderful weekend!! ps, it's very hot here too!!
I’m not a reptile person. But with that said, the photo of the baby gator is kinda cute. (did I really say that?!!!)
As for books, I'm reading just a little every day from Joyce Meyer's Loving People Who Are Hard to Love. The teaching is so rich that I need to read slowly to allow the message to really sink in.
A beautiful hike with lovely scenery. Nice bridge. I love how the gators look so prehistoric!
I like the sight of alligator here. Feels exotic
I'd love to walk over that bridge.
I read that book and thought it was great.
Thanks for taking us along on your hikes with such great photographs!! Always a pleasure to visit here!! xo
It looks so peaceful and cool here with the little waterway, all the greenery, birds, flowers and dare I say, the little croc. Those things freak me out, but hey, we all have scary things lurking in the woods! I have this guy on my neighborhood watch site that keeps posting photos of cougars and bears he finds on his trail cam. I think he likes to scare all of us older ladies! Lol! x K
What a beautiful place to walk.
The photos are beautiful, but I find the alligator really scary.
I'm so glad they don't live in the wild here in the Netherlands, you can only see them at the zoo.
I wish you a wonderful weekend.
Greetings Irma
You look like you were up close and person with that alligator. I would have been scared of that guy. You always get great photos on your hikes.
Thanks for the book recommendation. I haven't read all of his. There was one I couldn't get through so gave up. Lovely photos. Stay cool.
Lovely scenic photographic walk with you in nature ~ amazing alligator ~ florals and birds ~ great bridge to walk on ~ hugs,

This August is once again incredibly hot. I've always loved summers like this. I sympathize with those who are struggling. I always admire your wonderful photos and the beautiful, interesting places you present. Hugs and best regards.
Hello,
The bridge looks very nice, I like the photo too.
The little gators are cute, until they grow up.
The Pileated Woodpecker is a favorite bird.
Great photos and hike.
Thank you for linking up and sharing your critters! Take care, have a great weekend. PS, thank you for leaving me a comment.
You have a very special pet ! A mini dinosaur ! Very nice photos !
The gator is a monster to me. It's impressive that you can photograph it without fainting! Hugs!
What an interesting hike and lots of amazing scenery. That gator is quite interesting...from a distance!
Such an amazing bridge, not so sure about the alligators though. Hot and humid here too, been walking in air conditioned places instead of outside. Visiting from Saturday's Critters, https://craftygardener.ca/ladybugs/
Another wonderful hike and some beautiful critters. Have a great weekend.
You get out to see the prettiest places! Great pictures of the alligators, although I'm glad it was from a distance! The bridge is beautiful, and how nice that it has all been updated. Stay cool, and enjoy your blogging visits! I am doing two book giveaway should you be interested in stopping by. I've not read any books by the author you mention, I will put this book on my list! Many blessings :)
Awesome bridge. I love Fredrik Backman
Como siempre un reportaje genial, haces unas fotografías preciosas, me gustan los monstruos de los ríos. Feliz fin de semana.
You always get the nicest pictures and the one of the alligator is great! I don't know if I would walk across that bridge even with it being new. Have a wonderful weekend!
Beautiful captures of nature with the alligator!
Wow, what a wonderful blog post again with beautiful photos. That young alligator looks quite scary. From a distance, it looks like a tree stump in the water. I wouldn't cross a bridge like that anytime soon, even if this one has been completely renovated. The woodpecker was also a lovely encounter, as were the other photos. Wishing you wonderful days. and thank for your visit and comment on one of my websites.
Your type of hiking is so foreign to me so it is a treat to see through your eyes what you see! I wonder with the heat and being near water, are the bugs bad?
I would have loved to hike along and see the small gator and walk across the bridge. It looks fun and interesting.
Lovely photographs and thank you for the book recommendation, I'll keep my eye open for it.
Enjoy the week ahead.
All the best Jan
Your photos are always so beautiful!! You are an artist with your camera!
In another lifetime, I spent some very memorable days in a small boat on the Santa Fe River. Sure looks like O'Leno has had a terrific facelift.
Your post made me feel very relaxed. Even with that little 'gator hanging around. Hope you're preparing for an exciting Autumn.
I have liked all of Fredrik Backman's books too. I have not read this one, tell me why did you like it so much?
And you know I love alligators. Thank you for sharing the photos of them.
I have crossed paths several times this year with those "monsters" and they make me nervous. I am an avid hiker and in the south it is inevitable that one will be on your path or in a swamp off the trail. It is so hot and my adventures outdoors have been limited. I am also coming back to blogging, decluttering and indoor activities. BUT I am soooo excited to get on the trails this fall. I am heading to Florida the first week of September. We are hitting a few stops but I am not sure how much hiking we will do as I am not comfortable with gators. LOL! We are stopping by Wakulla Springs on our way to Fort Lauderdale. Blessings.
Excellent photos. I love the gator and the woodpecker. Have a nice day !
Lovely photos of the bridge and the river.
