EXPLORE X 24

I chose a word for 2014 at the beginning of the year.

~Explore~

As most of you know, I keep a journal. I have kept one since the ‘70s! Wow! That’s a LONG time! Anyway, it comes in handy when you want to look back and document something special.

DianeIMG_9263

So it was fun to look back at all of our hikes and make a list. We did our first serious hike on November 10, 2013. So here we are 6 months later and we’ve gone on 24 hikes, each hike averaging 2 hours.

(this doesn’t count walks at Sholom park or  neighborhood ‘strolls’)

24 hikes in 6 months.

I feel kind of proud of what we’ve accomplished. We’ve gotten into better shape and enjoyed the great outdoors, too. Florida has so much to offer. I know hiking is probably not what you think about when you plan a vacation to Florida. But we live in the central part of the state near Ocala National Forest and many preserves so we want to take advantage of what we have close by.

Mosaic Monday,

 Amaze me Monday

and Tex for the Good Fences party!

Most of our hikes were taken at

 Ross Prairie State Forest,

Halpata Tastanaki Preserve,

the Cross Florida Greenway,

Pruitt Trailhead and

Silver Springs State Park.

And we have so many more we want to

EXPLORE!

Wow - good for you guys for all your hiking. Husband and I should do more of that. We see a lot of padlocked gates in our area too - and most of them are on the State or Federal Preserves where "we the people" should be able to wander around and look at things.

That is awesome Diane. What a great way to get lots of exercise and to enjoy the beauty outdoors. You have the perfect climate to do it in (for me). I don't like the cold so find all kinds of excuses to stay indoors. Your photos are beautiful! Enjoy the weekend. Hugs. Pam

Hi,

My friend Jackie is president of her company that moves the gopher tortoises when their natural habitat is in danger. I always enjoyed hearing where they went and how many animals they saved. They also dive when a new dock is being planned to make sure all is legal.

Happy Saturday. It's cool and rainy here but everything is blooming and it is spectacular. Allergies - don't ask.

You guys live in Old Florida - a beautiful area!! Sure hope you take a chance to paddle either by canoe or kayak on the Juniper Springs run!! It starts out as just a small spring bubbling up and eventually flows into the St. Johns River- well - actually Lake George and then into the River.
My Mom and Dad graduated from Eustis in 49 and use to go to the Juniper Springs pool. And it hasn't changed a bit from that time!!

We started hiking last summer and did very well and then winter hit and we now have to get the old body moving again. I was wondering do you see many snakes?
we never do but no poisonous ones here.

Thank you for that beautiful walk, I enjoyed it! I love to explore too!
Bam Bam found one of those little gopher turtles in our back yard the other day and freaked out. I picked it up and moved it outside the fence to safety!
Now Bam Bam looks for it every time he goes out back, guess he likes to explore also!
Have a great Mother's Day!
