More BOOKS!

Since I haven't been able to do any crafts lately
( they are in FL and I am in NC! lol )
and I have not started any art projects YET...I have been reading more!

(and eating candy?
Not really but I wanted to begin with this pretty photo! lol)

I loved The Story of Edgar Sawtelle and Tess of the D'Urbervilles,

and I have Very Valentine by Adriana Trigiani on request from my library.

Any other suggestions from my blogging buddies?

Have you read anything good lately?
Have any new authors you would recommend?

I had some excitement at Goodwill a few days ago!

I was so happy when I found this cookbook that I marched straight to the
check out to make my purchase and come home!

My mother gave me this identical cookbook when I got married...
many years ago! And it was the ONLY one I had for several years.

I learned to COOK with this cookbook and it shows!
My copy is battered and worn, the cover is off and it is missing
some of the pages. So when I saw this one, I could NOT believe my eyes!

A recipe I have made MANY times!

The center photo is the Honey Twist....

The American Woman's Cookbook copyright 1950 !!! YAHOOO!!!
I almost cried! I know that sounds crazy...but I felt that emotional!

What a treasure!

I hope you all find treasure in your everyday life!

Hi Diane,
The deserts look yummy. My wife and I are having coffee right now and our taste buds just perked up when we saw your display. My sugar jumped a notch. Anyway, we need to have you back doing your crafts because they are so creative and fun. Thanks for visiting my site, I look forward to all of your comments.

It is wonderful to have found the cook book. I understand you feeling emotional. I do the same thing when I find something connected with the past.

Hi Diane! I don't ever have time to read, when I do I usually get interupted a billion times and lose my place... I do have a collection of cookbooks, some were my husbands mom's and some were my grandmothers and my mom's, some I bought too. It's funny, when I'm looking at cookbooks (getting grocery list together) my husband usually lets me be.....hmmm I wonder why???? hugs, Jennifer

I love all of Trigiani's books. Especially the Big Stone Gap series. Have you read Garden Spells? It is a great read.

Those candies look yummy.

How neat that you found a copy of the cookbook your Mother had given you.
Old cookbooks are always so neat to have.

I love anything by Trigiani! Very Valentine was good....I just finished it a couple of weeks ago. Do you belong to Goodreads? I find lots of suggestions for books on there.

I hate to cook but I love cookbooks, and most especially the older ones. You found a treasure!

I love Edgar Sawtelle too. Never read Tess, but I should.

P.S. I just finished reading I KNOW THIS MUCH IS TRUE by Wally Lamb. Excellent book, IMO.

I also have my mum's 1953 cookbook and love it. The 'old-fashioned' styling of food etc. But it takes me back to childhood whenever I open it's pages and days of my mum baking. It was great to see the pics of yours. Mine is my treasure too.

I'm not familiar with your cookbook but it reminded me of the two I relied on when first married. I didn't know how to cook much! I had Betty Crocker and The Joy of Cooking. They were my kitchen bibles! I still have them. Now I refer to allrecipes.com for most of my inspiration. LOL

I just listened to the audible version of The Sugar Queen by Sarah Addison Allen and enjoyed it. It is a light read, nice for summer. This was the first I have 'read' by this author. I want to read My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Piccoult. My sister asked me to read it a few years ago and now the movie is coming out. I want to read the book first.

Oh, the picture of bon-bons--delightful.

Cook books are so full of memories for me too! What a wonderful reminder of how precious they are. LOVE that picture of all the colourful fondants! t.x (I don't read much these days - I always prefer sewing if I have a few minutes - so instead I rent Audio books from the library and listen whilst I sew - sort of cheating but it means I'm 'reading' loads! Currently into historical swashbuckling - Bernard Cornwell is a huge fave!)
