I just finished a wonderful series of books...The Canaan Trilogy.
The first book is "Sarah" and it is wonderful!
Don't you love the art work on the cover?
The next in the series is "Zipporah, wife of Moses".
And then Lilah, all of the books by Marek Halter.
I loved reading them and would like to recommend them
but please be aware that they are novels
and are not necessarily 'historical fiction'.
When I read them I really got caught up in the Old Testament stories
and plan to spend some time reading the accounts in the Bible.
Last night I finished Lilah and wept out loud.
She was the sister of Ezra so that's the book
of the Bible I'm going to read first.
I made these scones and they are healthy and delicious!
I can't eat much sugar so they are perfect for dessert.
Blueberry muffins move over......
(be sure and read the tips at the bottom of the recipe
before you proceed! heeehee!)
Blueberry Scones
1 cup unbleached white flour
1 cup whole wheat flour
1/4 cup sugar
2 tsp baking powder
1/8 tsp salt
6 Tbsp chilled butter, cut into pieces
1 cup fresh blueberries
1 large egg, lightly beaten
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 cup milk or cream
( I used some half and half but needed a little more than 1/2 cup)
Whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.
Cut butter into small pieces and blend into flour with pastry blender or 2 knives.
The mixture should look like coarse crumbs.
Gently fold in blueberries.
In a small bowl combine cream, egg and vanilla.
Add this mixture to flour mixture and stir just until the dough comes together.
Do not over mix or the scones will come out tough.
Transfer dough to a lightly floured surface and knead gently 4 or 5 times.
Pat out dough into a 7 inch circle, about 1 1/2 inches thick.
Cut this circle into half, then cut each half into 4 pie shaped wedges (triangles)
Place the scones on a baking sheet.
Brush the tops with a little milk or cream.
Bake 425 until nicely browned about 15 minutes.
OK….now comes the tips or tricks! Lol
I greased the pan, it smoked in the hot oven and set off the smoke alarm
in my new condo! So next time I will just spray a little PAM right where I
place the scone. And since I turned the oven OFF for the 15 minutes and
they came out PERFECT….I think the oven should be turned down during
some of the cooking time. I need to make them again and experiment with
this idea! Heehee! I just think the oven is TOO HOT to leave it at 425 for
the entire cooking time! Let me know if you make them!
Enjoy the day and the weekend ahead!
