I’m having a party…anyone care to join me?

Maybe not….since the party I am having is a

MAJOR PITY PARTY!

My computer crashed….

and yes, it happened to me last year, too.

But last year I had just done a back up to an external hard drive the night before.

Because my ‘new’ computer is only a few months old….

I hadn’t got into a habit of backing up.

If I could start this post with large letters and then get smaller and smaller….that would be how I feel.

I am totally leveled by this one. I feel like someone kicked me in the gut.

The good news is that my computer savvy hubby is working on the problem and there’s a slight chance he will be able to retrieve my photos.

I feel like my throat is closing off again so I will sign off until I get my enthusiasm back…and another new computer up and running. I haven’t been able to see my emails today but I will hopefully be able to read them later. So if you want to say something sweet to make me feel better….it will need to be in a comment on this post.

I know many of you have had this happen at some time or another so you’ll know how devastated I feel today.

So go now and back up your photos and files!

I’ll ask you later if you did! heehee!

There WILL be a test…

and it will be a pop test!

Fingers crossed that your husband works his magic. I'm definitely guilty of not backing up yu pics as much as I need to. I constantly back up work data, but not pictures. I'm off to find my external hard drive!

I feel for you, Diane, just went through this a couple of weeks ago. I am still having wireless issues. But I am going to do a back up this time, no doubt. I found some photos when I accidentally stumbled upon a Picasa folder. Cannot find it anymore, have no clue where it went!xo

Sorry about the computer. It's happened to me twice in the past 2 years or so, and boy did I learn my lesson. It's easy to get lax about being vigilant with backups and scans and such. Good luck!

Ohhh I am so sorry. I've had my computer crash too, back when we had our Gateway...oh so many years ago. It is an awful feeling. A computer is our lifeline to our friends and families. Your hubby will have you reconnected to your friends and family soon. I was wondering where you were all day, and was getting worried. Glad you are fine, and your computer will be soon! Big Hugs!

Oh no, I remember that sickening feeling! I am so sorry. I sure hope that you can recover your files. {{{{{hugs}}}}}}

The days about backup worries is over for me since I converted over to a Mac last year. It has a wonderful time machine program and my computer is automatically backed up to a separate hard drive constantly. If you need to buy a new computer, I highly recommend a Mac!

I am so terrified of this happening that as I download photos I immediately transfer to my external and then a thumb drive. I am so sorry that this happened to you. I pray that your husband can retrieve all the lost photos.

So sorry this happened Diane. I do remember when this happened to you before and from my memory, it was not that long ago since you got a new computer. Such a shame you are dealing with this again so soon.

Please no pop quiz.

I've been lucky not to have a computer crash for years, so I've gotten lazy about backing stuff up. Thanks for the reminder this can happen at any time.

Hope to see you back online again soon!

Computer problems are so frustrating. We don't think we are so wrapped up in them until they are gone, even for a short time. Thanks for choosing to follow my blog about float cabin living. We still have computers there, but no Internet. At least that is a little less crazy making when we are at home. But then we crunch everything together on trips to town, so that can make them a little less fun (if you know what I mean_. - Margy

Hi Diane
I hope the hubby will get you fixed up and running soon. I have always loved reading your blogs and I hate to hear you are so upset. please know we have all had this problem and we are learning from you the importance of backing up. My comp has a program now to do an auto back up process from time to time. Your April roses are simply gorgeous and I love the shell and sea treasure -KAT-

So sorry, friend. I know the feeling of a computer crash. Thankfully, I keep my important things backed up (fairly regularly) on a flash drive, so my losses have been minimal. I had a computer crash earlier in the summer and just purchased a new one a few days ago. They sure don't make 'em like they used to. Computers used to be made to last!

I pray you can recover some things from your hard drive.

Betsy said...

How horrible. I hope you can recover some. Very frustrating to say the least.
We have Mozy backup that is set automatic for that. I know too well that new computers can have a major malfunction.

Diane, I am SO SORRY! I do know just how you feel!! It's a good reminder for us all to back up our photo files especially. I'm behind about a month on that. And since I never print photos out anymore, it would be a big loss. I sure hope your hubby can retrieve your photos. I think I'll also upload more of my photos to my Flickr account.

Lovely April Flowers, by the way.

Diane, you've been in my thoughts and I hope you do something fun for yourself while you're having a pity party. Just think of all the fun you'll have taking new photos if you're unable to retrieve them.

I am so sorry, Diane. I have experienced the same frustration. They have all kinds of ways of getting it back these days. Hope your hubby can figure it out.
In the meantime, take a look at all these comments and all the wonderful support you have from your bloggy friends. May it bring you lots of encouragement. :)

I have not backed up my files lately so thanks for the reminder.
Here's to a better week!!

Awe..... Diane I am so sorry, I feel your pain. I do think this has happened to all of us at one time or another. I do have an external hard drive that I am pretty much up to date with but this reminds me to do it again. There are ways to retrieve photos from a hard drive that crashes. You might have professional computer people get them for you. I hope you can get all your priceless pictures back. Here is a computer hug coming your way....xoxoxoxo Hugs
