When someone impresses you!

One advantage of being friendly is meeting people along the way! ( a pretty sky on my way out)

DSCN4665

I have never been shy and I remember my sons being embarrassed when they were growing up. They always asked me why I talk to everyone.

It works both ways. I have one of those familiar faces….see what Dear Helen has to say about that HERE…so I have a lot of people talk to me, too.

Today I met the most delightful lady.

We were both shopping at a big department store, and we were both buying watches from the clearance shelf…very similar watches. She asked about having a link taken out and the next thing I know, we are both back in jewelry having links taken out of our $5 watches! lol So we talked. I even said, my name is Diane…and she gasped! She went to school with a girl that looked JUST like ME and had the same name! In SC. Well….I have the same accent but mine is from Arkansas! heehee!

We just kept right on talking and she said she has been told she looks like Reba McIntire…and she DOES! And she told me a funny anecdote about meeting Dolly Parton one time.

So that’s what I wanted to write about today.

Being friendly and having a chance to meet someone that is lovely through and through.

She is a pastor’s wife so I came home and ‘googled’ their church and found this photo.

Tim and Jan Flipped July 08

Now I think I’ll write her an email and tell her I featured her on my blog today!

My day was special all the way around. My best blog buddy, Della and I did some shopping together, too! We tried to talk AND shop! heehee!

UPDATE: My friend and close neighbor, Danielle wrote the most perfect comment,

“Oh I just talk to everybody!!! I always say, if you talk with someone long enough you will always find a 'common thread' that binds you together....and you never now when that 'stranger' just happens to be one of God's earthly angels..sent to brighten your day.”

Do you talk to people when you shop?

Hi Diane. :) I talk to people everywhere I go. Sometimes I don't even feel like it but it makes me feel better and the truth is that person might not have someone else to speak nicely to them that day. Make sense?

Mother and I are both "Mouths of the South", and talk to everyone, incl sales people. By the way, the lady does look like Reba McEntire.

Yes, I do sometimes talk with strangers when I shop. Love the comment your neighbor Danielle said. Have I've told you what a beautiful person you are! Such a kindred spirit you are! Glad I've met you through blogland.

She's a cute lady! Funny about Dolly Parton. My sweetie met her accidentally. He was visiting a fellow photographer friend over in Sevierville and there was a knock on the door. It was Dolly - without all the makeup and wig. She had gone to school with the photographer friend and just stopped by to say hello. Jim said that she was as sweet and bubbly as could be.

Sometimes I talk with folks when I am out and about and sometimes not. It just depends on whether I am in a "strolling" mode or "on a mission." My mom used to drive me crazy because she would talk to anybody or anything that moved. She even talks to her own reflection, LOL!

She is pretty! It's funny that they have the same last name as that beautiful red head!!! Coincidence?

I am not surprised that a complete stranger would want to talk to you. You have a very sweet smile (which is always on display) and makes you approachable. It sounds like that was a nice conversation between two lovely strangers. You have been a sweet blogging friend by listening to my tales of blogging woes. Thanks!!!!!! Happy news to announce soon.

Sometimes. I think as a general rule, though, that I am much more reserved than you. It's the whole North/South thing. Cute story.

Some times, I'll strick up conversation with strangers. I have always said "strangers are friends we haven't met yet". When we say hello or wish someone well..who knows they may just really need that at that moment. Smiles, Susie

I talk once in awhile, but usually I'm in a hurry and don't want to take the time. Some friends and family I've gone shopping with want to talk to everyone they see whether they know them or not. It takes hours to get the shopping done!

Funny thing I used to carry on conversations with everyone and DH barely said a word. Now it is the other way around.

My mom can talk to anyone and within 30 minutes she knows there whole life history! Drives me nuts sometimes :o)

What a timely post! Yesterday, I talked to two people in different locations who were dealing with loss of a loved one in a sudden and violent way. None of us had a connection, other than this shared experience and I felt it was meant to be that I was out there being chatty so these people could open up about something that was so painful and let some of their feelings out. ~ Maureen

Hi Diane, Oh I just love this post and how wonderful you made a new friend while shopping and talking. Love the pic.
I too talk to everyone. It is so much fun to make friends along the way. Some of my best friends today are those that I struck up a conversation with and still friends today and yes~~~ still talking. LOL
Thank you for sharing the gift you were blessed with. Have a grand weekend.
Love your new header for Fall.

Great post, Diane. Yes...I sometimes talk to folks when I am out and about shopping. It seems that they is more talking to others when we have the yorkie girls with us. It is always nice to talk to others...we never know when we might make their day a little better and I know that they sure do brighten my day.
hugs,
Cindy

My sister and I had a wonderful dinner in a deli yesterday because we engaged the server in conversation (the deli was not busy at all) and he was so fascinating. Thanks for the blogging idea...I think I'll blog about that. :)

I'm a talker too, although with my darn hearing impairment it's gotten more difficult to do so, but I won't give up on it. Don't you leave with such a good feeling after chatting with a stranger and feeling as if you've known each other forever?

Diane, I always talk to people when I shop or just when I am walking down the street, getting gas, you name it, I talk to them. I have never forgotten our Pastor's words, "If you are kind to someone, they may be in the dumps, they may be thinking of suicide, or they may be in a very bad place, share your love, smile, talk to them, you may save their life" I have always talked to people since that day, sharing kindness ;-)

I do, and sometimes it gets me in trouble. I have also been asked several times if I would be {someone's} life coach... :/ {weird, I know......}

I can see you out talking to everyone, Diane. That does't surprise me at all....

flyingbeader said...

Yes I do...makes the experience much more exciting than just pushing your credit card through a machine while a board clerk stares at you with malice in their eyes because you actually wanted to make them speak.

I talk to everyone.. I make my husband nuts when we are out, shopping at the doctors office.. Doesn't matter.. I"ll strike up a conversation with anyone.. LOL

I'm a chatterer, I will talk to anyone anywhere. In fact it makes me feel so much better to have some communication with people I don't know.

After years of retail, you just get into that second nature habit of chatting with people.

Can't help myself.

Hello namemate! First of all I want to tell you that I super love your new blog header. I guess my most favorite now.

Unfortunately, I'm your complete opposite. My shy personality has something to do with it. I don't normally start conversations. :-( In like manner that it's hard for me to trust people. However, when we really get to know each other better, that's when I talk a lot already. hahaha

Have a great weekend!

What a lovely story Diane. Yep, she does look like Reba McIntire. I sometimes do a lot of talking when I'm out and about, especially if I'm at an antique show or flea market. So much to say and so much to learn.

Unknown said...

WOW, she does look like Reba. I don't tend to always talk to people. I would say its about 50/50. In a way I guess I am a little shy. But when someone starts to talk to me I have no problem listening a talking back. I enjoy it.

I do hope you are enjoying your weekend.

Hugs~

LOL - I love to talk but my husband is SO like you! Our kids would just roll their eyes because he can start a conversation with anyone and it turns into an hour-long visit! That gal REALLY does look like Reba! How fun that you were able to find her online!

Oh Diane, I love talking to people when I'm out and about. When we were hiking in NC, I met the nicest couple and we struck up an easy friendship right there at a waterfall. It's so fun to find out about people, isn't it?

Oh I always visit with strangers. You make the most fun acquaintances that way. Hey, the other day at the supermarket I noticed how cute a ladies top was. I thought, "why not tell her?". I did and she seemed pleased. You never know when you might brighten someones day. Besides, we all could have more friends, right? Your new friend does look very friendly.

Diane, I talk to people everywhere. Got my current job by talking to people on airplanes. Sat down next tot he owner of the company and we started talking and 3 days later I had the best job I have ever had in my life. So just ask me what I think about being friendly and talking to people. :)
