A Blast from the Past!

I went to a book sale this morning and look what I found!

DSCN4817

Two old Nancy Drew books…one from 1930 and one from 1948, both a ‘little’ before my time.

But oh what memories they hold for me.

We had the most beautiful library when I was growing up!

And the nice thing is…it’s still there! Built in 1903…a ‘lot’ before my time, it stays in my memories!

I found these images HERE !

I can still remember where the Nancy Drew books were when I was a child…walk in, turn left, walk all the way to the left…Nancy Drew. I loved to read even as a child and walked to the library every week. One of these days when we are traveling, I’ll stop and visit my old library. (I did the last time I was there!)

Go to this Nancy Drew website HERE !

It’s awesome!

When I was going through a hard time about 20 years ago, I read some of my old Nancy Drew books and they brought me comfort. How long has it been since you read one?

Now having a couple of rows of vintage Nancy Drew books on my shelf, I really should try rereading one just to see if they are as fun as I used to find them. Love the old graphics! I'm chuckling at the library corner stone erected by on solitary woman I guess. Too cute! They needed to hire a proofreader.

I loved Nancy Drew books and I always asked for her books for birthday and Christmas gifts. At one time I had the complete collection of her first 45-50 books, but I sold it when I needed money for a car. I wish I still had that collection now tho.

LOVE this post....I read one about three years ago or so when Shelley was in fifth or sixth grade. We read The Hidden Staircase! ;P

Great finds at the book sale....

I can remember reading some old Nancy Drew stories. Mom never allowed us kids to go to the library. But my daughters went all the time and joined reading clubs through the summer. Now my sister and I walk to the library and buy books from the sale tables. :):) I think our mom was afraid we would tear up something and she would have to pay for it. She should have known better...we were the good kids in our neighborhood. Smiles, Susie

The Nancy Drew books were some of my favorites and I believe they are what gave me a love for mystery novels. I can't remember the last time I read one.

Nancy Drew was not in my library when I was growing up (50's & 60's) so these are the issue's that we found in used bookstores. Certainly dated and before my time, we often made fun of her speedy little roadster, but we avidly read and collected them!! Loved seeing the end papers again!

I read every single Nancy Drew book in the library. I think there were close to 100 at the time! Do you remember the Nurse Cherry Ames books that were out at the same time? ~ Maureen

I read Nancy Drew growing up but my heart was dedicated to the Bobbsey Twins. I love your library memories, hope you are well, friend!

I could sit on the floor and dig through dusty old vintage piles of books all day long. The style & artwork are a lost art.

My lord, it's been years, probably since school days. I use to love her though! Thanks for the memory jolt! Have a great day.

I know this is sad to say. But I don't think I have ever read Nancy Drew books. I know my sister loved them.. Maybe I should try one now.

Oh my gosh, I can't remember when was the last time I ever read Nancy Drew! I'd have to say that I preferred the Bobbsey Twins, tho.
That is a beautiful library and it looks very well kept up.

I loved reading ND books, she seemed so with it, and clever. Remember their club, Bobwhites, of the glen...

I recently found some of my old Nancy Drew books. I mostly read them from the library but my parents did buy me a few. I am like you and have always loved to read. Now I think I'll pull one out and read it cause it's been so many years I can't even remember. Hugs, Linda

YIKES!!! It has been years since I have thought about Nancy Drew. When I was a kid I was in the Nancy Drew Book Club and would receive two books each month. I would have them read in a couple of days and then had to wait the rest of the month for new ones. I loved them!!!!

Thanks for bringing back the memory of some wonderful childhood
days spent engrossed in a good mystery.

hugs!

When my daughter was in third grade! I was a huge Nancy Drew reader when I was young and had every one collected in my bookcase. Sadly they were lost, and all my other books to a fire. Books are treasures and I can see why those books brought you comfort - back to a time when things were simple and good (at least from your memory probably). How nice that you found those older editions. Priceless. Ann

How fun! I still like to revisit my childhood Nancy Drew books. It's been fun sharing them with Emma. I've been tempted to throw a Nancy Drew themed birthday party or Halloween party. Wouldn't that be fun!!

How lucky for you--I had these when I was younger, but after I got married, I honestly don't know what happened to them. I continue to look for them at flee markets, yard sales, thrift stores, etc. She was my heroine!

What a lovely find, especially as they took you down memory lane. I'm sure I read a couple of Nancy Drew books when I was young, but I was more into horse riding adventure books!

I still have a couple of Nancy Drew books, but I have to admit I much rather enjoyed watching "The Hardy Boys - Nancy Drew Mysteries" on TV because I had a crush on Shaun Cassidy.

what an amazing finding! And they look in very good condition as well.

Oh, you just brought me back to our little house on Kenneth Avenue in Baldwin N.Y. I used to devour every Nancy Drew book I could find. I could get so lost in her mystery tales. My mom always said I was Nancy Drew, because I was always researching something or other.

Thank you for the inspiration. Now I'll follow you link.

I too am a member of the Nancy Drew Sisterhood. Always wanted them for Christmas and birthdays and have almost the whole set(prior to the 70's) but only 1 of the old ones like you found. Mine are all yellow. I did the EXACT same thing during my "hard time" in 1987 and enjoyed every minute of them again.

We used to have Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys collection. I loved reading them. Then I discovered Agatha Christi....HA.

What a treasure! I love old books. Nothing like the look and feel of old books. And the library is a beautiful building. So nice it's still there, instead of being torn down to make another Walmart.
