How many of you have seen the movie “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants?
I rented it from the library and it is really good!
I could appreciate it even more since I’ve taken part in ‘The Sisterhood of the Traveling Apron’.
A quote from IMDB, “The movie is based on the young adult book, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, by Anne Brashares. As four best friends spend their first summer apart from one another, they share a magical pair of jeans. Despite being of various shapes and sizes, each one of them fits perfectly into the pants. To keep in touch they pass these pants to each other as well as the adventures they are going through while apart.”
This is a bit of a postscript as to a ‘magical’ experience I had while I had the ‘traveling apron’. I enjoyed bringing it along with me while we visited family but I also had something happen that was totally unexpected.
I found something.
I found something that I have been looking for…
for YEARS!
I found my book!
When I was growing up my sister and I each had a big Storybook.
And I kept them.
A few months ago, I asked my sister if she would like to have hers and I sent it on it’s way. Which left me with my book…my pitiful beat up book that I had given my 4 boys to read and enjoy. By the time I realized it was a keepsake…it had no covers, was missing pages at the beginning AND the end and was colored in with crayons! lol So when I started spending time on the computer I realized I could search for my book and find out what the cover was supposed to look like and maybe even find a ‘new’ book.
Last week I was in one of my favorite shops here in NC, New Visions and I reached down on the bottom shelf to look at a Hans Christian Andersen book…
and there was MY BOOK underneath.
“365 Bedtime Stories”
I couldn’t believe my eyes! I paid for it but didn’t even get a bag for it. I carried it out as if it was a fragile treasure.

Oh it was sweet to see that book on the shelf! I have a few old ratty childhood books myself that I dearly love. They are filled with those wonderful stories that they don't write anymore. I did see the movie and I did like it as I recall.

OMgosh! That was one of my favorite books (along with Nancy Drew) that got passed down through younger siblings, then, nieces & nephews, but I have no idea where it is now. The "magic" of the Traveling Apron, for me, is experiencing the women that have been chosen and feeling like we have been friends for years and reconnected.
When the Apron finally returns to Meggie, it would be wonderful if she wrote the screenplay for our own movie...I'm thinking Sally Fields for my character, tee hee!
Most definitely a bit of readers magic going on there...

My youngest daughter and I saw this movie while she was still in high school. We both loved it, and it is a favorite of ours!

The apron is indeed filled with magic and love. Gosh, I DO like Susan's idea, that Meggie should write the screenplay for a movie...then the travelling Susan apron sisters would be able to meet!

I still own a few treasured books from my childhood, Diane. I'm glad you found one similar to one you loved.
I'm so glad you posted about this, I love books, especially old ones. I can well imagine how delighted you were when you spotted that particular one.

Finding that hidden book that means so much is wonderful. I loved the movie the Red Balloon. I watched it all the time when I was a little girl..imagine when we bought a huge box of stinky old books there in the middle was a book about the movie The Red Balloon...I was dancing around. Husband couldn't figure out why I was happy...but I was & cherish the book as I know you cherish your book
Definitely magic! Diane, my sister & I cherished our one copy of "your" favorite book! Every night we would listen to one story. WoW! I have no clue what happened to the book.

Oh what a wonderful find! I know exactly how you felt on finding it and I am smiling as I think about the childhood books I'd be thrilled to find again. A few survived and have already been handed down to my kids/grands, but some favorites disappeared along the way.

I loved this story, and you finding that book was SO meant to be! Glad you now have a copy that isn't colored in with crayons. What is it about kids writing all over books? I know I did it too, but WHY???

That is amazing, I would have been over the moon. I had a beautiful book as a child that I gave to a friend when her child was growing up. I suspect she dumped it and now I am so sad, I should have hung on to it. C'est la vie. Diane
