My hubby was out and about yesterday and spotted this Scrub Jay, closely related to the Blue Jay.
I have seen Blue Jays all my life but never a Scrub Jay. (Hubby has seen them, but it’s been years ago!)
They are not uncommon here in Florida but it was a fun sighting for us!
Have you ever seen one?
Enjoy your day!
Our forecast for the day? 77 degrees!

I have never saw one either, temp here is minus 24, wanna trade places, lol!!!!
No, I've never seen one. It's going to be in the 40s here and raining. I wouldn't mind trading. ;o)
I have seen birds that are blue but I have to look closer - beautiful!!!
77 degrees? We woke to snow and are expected more on Friday. This means I'm off to the grocery store to stock up. Do you need anything?
I have never seen as scrub jay but would love to!
I have never seen a scrub jay. I do love to hear blue jays. Their calls take me back in time. When the teachers would open the windows we could hear them calling. Yes, I know that was the stone age when windows were opened to cool the school. :):) xoxo,Susie
Scrub jays? No, I have never seen one (until now). They must make for a sweet flash of blue. Those temps sound just about like perfection. Enjoy your day!
Oh, love the new wide header and the subject and the colors...lovely. (It's so much nicer than the new trend of just a word or no header at all.)
Never seen one before, they are very pretty! ...and snow predicted here.. big snow on Friday. *sigh*
Beautiful bird and beautiful weather! More snow is in the forecast for tomorrow in our area. Another 5-8 inches!
We have lots of scrub jays. They are actually little pests or should I say bullies! If they are around they will not let the smaller birds eat at the feeder. We tend to call them robbers for that word scrub suits them. They pick up anything but with that they are so fun to watch.
I so would love to move to warm, sunny Florida to retire. I have one problem or should I say 7 problems. So far away from grand kids!!Maybe I could find a great rental for a few months!! Love the sunset pictures!!
Wow what a beautiful colour he is. We dont get birds like that here in England not wild ones thats for sure. No wonder he made your day. dee x
I don't think I've ever seen one. What a pretty blue! :D I wonder if they're common here in Alabama.
I don't think I've ever seen one either, but I had to look it up when you posted this, it is interesting. According to the Audubon Bird Guide, they are hard to see, as they are never far from dense brush or scrub and at the first sound of danger, they disappear into the brush.
Also, there are two distinct scrub jays, they were formerly regarded as two distinct species, one race ranging out West and the other ranging in the Florida panhandle! The Florida race is separated by more than 1,000 miles from the range of the nearest Western race.
That was an interesting post, Diane! You know, when we were kids, I used to see all kinds of birds, like Orioles and Red-winged Blackbirds, I never see these anymore.

Can't say I've ever seen one, Diane. Pretty colors on it.
Gray and dismal today. Sure wish it would stop acting like it's going to rain and actually DO IT!!

He is so pretty!! I've never seen one or heard of one until now. Great captures!
I've never seen one of those. We gets lots of blue jays though. I wish we were getting your weather, it's 21 degrees here today.

I've never seen this variety; ours in the Pacific Northwest are a dark, almost cobalt blue and smaller than the Eastern Jay. I love their personalities, although our resident crows are not as thrilled with them, XOXO
They are a beautiful shade of blue but we don't get them over here in the UK.
They remind me of our magpies!
HAve a great day!
So pretty.
I dont think I have seen one.
Thank you for sharing.
77? As much as I love my seasons.
I am looking forward to spring.
Woolie Hugs
I too am familiar with blue jays, but not the scrub jay. Wasn't even aware of them. Wonder if they have them in OK?
Brenda
Here where I live.. we have the 'Iberian blue Jay' its only common to this area..
different than the scrub jay..which i might add is beautiful..
very nice shots..
You might like to look up the Iberian blue jay.. i have so many in my garden.. they are quick..and i cant get shots of them sometimes.. but i did put some photos on one of my posts last year.

Nope, never seen them... until now.
So glad you shared as they sure are pretty.
I did see two bluebirds on my neighbor's mailbox this morning and wondered if they were scouting out places for future nest building.
Dear lavender dreamer... I must correct myself..
The bird i was referring to is an ' Azure winged Magpie' they look similar to a jay.. my mistake..
Not unsimilar.. although bigger.
New one on me. I don't think we get them here. Diane
I've never seen one and if I did I would not know the name. However ... I love blue as ,you well know ... and it would be love at first sight. Thanks for the pictures ~ Mary
Hi Diane,
How sweet the little Jay bird is and always great to see birds that we do not see over here.
Hope you are enjoying the week
hugs
Carolyn
So beautiful! We have blue jays or maybe bluebirds come in our yard for peanuts.
Oh my gosh Diane. I lived there for 35 years and never saw one! For awhile they were endangered I believe. Please thank your husband for me - I now have proof that they do exist! Ann
Hi Diane, I have seen the Scrub Jay, just not lately. I knew it wasn't a Blue Jay but I had no idea what it was. You captured some great photos! Now I know, thanks.

I've never even heard of one much less seen one! Such a pretty blue color!
sandy :)
So strange to say that I have never seen one when I have lived in Florida my entire life and live in an area where they are extremely common. They really are such cute little birds :)
If you do, let me know. So many of our friends are there & I didn't think I would like it but I love the personal communicating now.
Hugs, Marydon
I've never seen a Scrub Jay before...very pretty bird!!
hugs,
Cindy
I have not only never seen one, but never heard of them either. Blogs are so educational!
I saw a blue Jay when I was staying in the USA with friends a few years ago...aren't they closely related to our magpies? I love the bright colours of them all!!
Joan
That is one beautiful bird!!!
Sweet goodies and that African doll with nana is so cute ..
Beautiful bird xx
What a pretty bird! I saw a robin on my walk the other day. There is hope! I wish I could say our temps were as warm as yours though.
Ive never seen one but he sure is beautiful. His colors are gorgeous!
We see scrub jays ALL the time in Oregon..but last year we went to a birding thing in Cape Coral and were told that the Florida scrub jay is rare! Yours looks just like the ones in Oregon, but if I were you I'd call it a Florida scrub jay and say you saw a rare bird!!
