By the time you get to be my age, you know a little bit about yourself.
You know that it’s better to use your time doing things you enjoy, if you have the choice.
So…..straight off the cutting board…
Meet Kari Christina!
I bought my first pattern! Here’s the link to the Etsy shop, Prindle Mountain Prims.
The pattern includes this little lamb, too!
(my hubby had the idea for pipe cleaner legs..thanks hubby…easy peasy)
I’ve been using free patterns that I find online but I decided for my first doll, I needed a tried and true pattern.
My strengths? Sewing. (that’s only ONE strength…I’m still trying to think of another one! hahaha)
My weaknesses….I don’t paint! I don’t have confidence to make a doll face or sew on hair so I chose a Prairie doll.
She’s out here in the lanai now hanging out while I blog.
Don’t you love her little bloomers?
Are you doing something fun today,
something you enjoy?

This is so darn cute! And what a fantastic job you did with this pattern, your sewing is beautiful. I love the little bloomers, and the lace embellishment on her dress is perfect. Sometimes the simplest things are best, kudos to hubby for the pipe cleaner legs! On that note of simple, and since sewing is your forte, maybe you'd like French knot eyes. Just enough to give the impression if you want something there. Nothing is perfect too!
Aw, she's so cute. I was a child of the seventies, so she reminds me of Holly Hobby! I love Holly Hobby!
She's very sweet, Diane.
xo,
RJ
Diane, you seriously are a very talented lady! Your doll is just beautiful and looks just like (or even better than!) the ones in gift shops. I don't remember if you sell any of your things on Etsy? That would be great if you don't. I still love the little purse/wristlet I bought for my niece and she loves it, too! And yes....Life is short. Eat dessert first!... AND do the things you love to do! :)
She's just adorable!! Yes, I'm loving my blogging time and so enjoyed reading yours! Have a wonderful day~
She's really cute. You are VERY talented!! I'll be spring cleaning today - not so much fun, but I don't really mind it. It needs to be done.
What a cute doll, but I'm partial to sheep, so that's my favorite. Nice work, Diane! xo
A little cutie with her little sweet lamb. They are wonderful, and this is your first doll making project? Wow, you are amazing.
Hugs
It's cold, windy and a little snowy up here in the mountains, two days ago it reached 70 degrees. Love it!!!
What a cutey! I don't sew - except straight lines, like making a curtain panel.
Today I am trying to stay warm it is cold here!!
She's so cute! Her little bloomers are adorable and so is the lamb. :)
You are right about knowing strengths and weaknesses. I have also given thought to ways that I limit myself though.
Your doll looks like a Holly-Hobby girl. I like the sheep. You have a great talent. Your sewing is an art form. It's nice that your husband had some input. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
Diane, she is just adorable. You have a real talent there. I try to sew but I don't have the patience for it most of the time. Enjoy your day. xo
How cute! Pretty fabrics too. I made a prairie type doll years ago and just embroidered a smile. That turned out kind of nice.
...I wish! I have to travel next week to do videos and packaging shots for my next collection, so I'm busy in the studio! XOXO
Oh my word, she's showing off her bloomers! She is definitely a cutie and I like her featureless face... like the Amish. And her sheep is just adorable too -- nice that it was included in the pattern!
Hi Diane, what a cute doll. Love her sweet dress and the little lamb to go with. Really adorable. I used to make these in the 80's with no faces when we lived in Indiana and they were Amish dolls.
You are so talented my friend. Have fun!!
Happy almost weekend.
Hugs
Oh how adorable! I love her and you are a talented stitcher!
She is really cute Diane! I'm not a sewer at all as I don't have the patience. Taking pictures is my hobby. It's a blizzard day here so I'm stuck in the house. I think I'll do some more spring decorating to brighten things up in this winter wonderland that is outside the windows. Have a nice sun shiny day!
Good for you! I think you will really enjoy doll-making. Just jump in on the next one and make that face. The lamb is sweet too and good idea hubby.
You have a point. Do what you enjoy! She's a sweet little dolly and her lamb is adorable, too. The only trouble with these projects is that they are done so quickly. What's next?
She turned out perfect!! That sure does look like a fun project!! I'm probably just going to get a little bit of knitting in today!! ❤️
She's adorable. Diane, and so is the little lamb. I can think of many strengths that you have including your wonderful empathy. xo Laura
She is adorable and I love the sheep. I am gathering up the courage to make the holly hobby dolls again. I always had trouble with the head, but iI have new ideas. The eyes are hand embroideried, so I am trying to get pairs that at least resemble each other. I love your projects because they look like you can just use bits and pieces of left over material. Today I will not sew; I willbe visiting my friend as she makes cookes. She known for her cookies. Have a great day.
You do sew so well. Not one of my talents for sure. Cute doll!! Hugs to you Sis!
Linda
That is so cute, Diane. Love your new doll. xo
Diane, I just want to let you know that you are a very talented lady! She is beyond adorable along with that little sheep of hers. Your hubby had a great idea with those pipe cleaners too!
She is so cute and I love the lamb! I tried making a doll without a pattern once and was amazed at how difficult it was to do.
Diane, sewing is NOT one of my strengths. For some reason, I get incredibly stressed (and crabby!) when I sew. I greatly admire those that do. Your doll is adorable!
oh this is soooo cute right down to her bloomers of course your new doll.
Love it.
Made me smile.
A new career for you Diane, and you do sew beautifully.
This could be a new adventure for you.
Jen
Oh Diane you did a wonderful job! She is so pretty!
Hi Diane!
Love how your doll turned out, and thank you for purchasing my pattern and mentioning my Etsy. For your readers who would like to read about my very own daughter, Kari Christina, who was the inspiration behind me designing this pattern, they can read it here:

Hi Diane,
What a cute doll with her little sheep...so cute!! I used to make that kind of doll back in the 80's when I had my shop in the little tourist town that we lived in. Can't wait to see what you make next.
hugs,
Cindy
She is darling. I am not much of a painter either yet I bought milk paint yesterday. Sigh.
That is too too sweet!!
Diane, we are having a rare day...no rain!! I decided to wash the car...Hubby says it is sure to rain again! Ah, Ah!
Lovely Prairie doll!
She turned out great and I love the lamb! I worked today, love it not as much:@)
Cute, cute, cute! You did a great job on her. And I love her little lamb also.
Judy
Hi and wow Diane I love this prairie doll you made! You are so creative and talentd!! I hope you are enjoying sunny Florida! It's so cold here still and I'm looking forward to spring! I am going to knit tonight! Take care and enjoy the weekend. By the way I love the lamb too.
Julie
The doll is adorable. Great job! You really should try painting faces. With a little practice I know you can do it. You should see the first doll I did! She's funny, but I love her.
Sweet hugs
Pat
You did a great job of making up the little doll and lamb! Do these dolls typically not have faces? I'm unfamiliar with a "prairie" doll. One trick I've learned with doll faces (only if you ARE putting on a face), is to use a marker with ink that dissolves after an hour or so. I can draw a face, transfer it to the fabric using this marker, and then embroider over the lines and the lines just disappear. And if you make a mistake in the transfer part, it doesn't matter because the ink isn't permanent ... of course you may already know all this ;) Wendy x
Ferry sweet, she reminds me of the Amish doll....blessings dear friend
Very cute! The little lamb makes her even more adorable!
She totally reminds me of my favorite Holly Hobby doll. Her bloomers are adorable and that lamb is precious. Well done.
Bravo to you for spending your time on the things you love!
Everything about her is sweet. My fun thing for today was lots of reading. It was super cold and I was so happy not to have anywhere I needed to be, nice fresh fruit for a snack and a good book.
Oh, I love this doll, Diane. It kind of looks like the Amish dolls with no faces painted on, so sweet. You are such a creative sewer. My mom used to sew all the time, and I only wish I had her talent.
Have a good Friday.
love,
~Sheri
I love her and her little lamb too! I have always loved little prairie dolls, I have a couple of my own. The fabrics you chose look so sweet!
Today was bitter cold (it is below 0 and we got another 3" of snow) but at this point we know it can't last much longer as it's the middle of March so I think I see light at the end of the tunnel! lol! Have a great weekend my friend,
Linda
Sewwhat
Adorable!! You are so talented!
Hi Diane,
So adorable!
I wish I had the patience to sew but no I would rather paint...we are totally opposite in that regard!
Love her little bloomers!
Enjoy,
Barb
Oh!! I LOVE HER!!!
What a sweet doll! You're so right but my problem is I have SO MANY interests! I enjoy everything I do now a days especially since there is no rush. I go at my own pace which is slow. LOL!
How adorable!!!
Absolutely love her! You are awesome:)
Great job!
