We hiked at Halpata Tastanaki Preserve over the weekend and guess what?
The cactus was in full bloom.
Who knew there was so much in the fields!
(unless you get off the trail! lol)
Look at the quills on them!
It was a beautiful day with a high of 80 so we enjoyed our hike #21 for the year.
And when I had a chance to look at the photos of the cactus blooms, I noticed all kinds of beetles and bees gathering the pollen and drinking the nectar.
But I must say, I didn’t see this little guy until I zoomed in!
I think he should be invited to the Ugly Bug Ball!
Don’t you?
I’m joining Beautiful Sunday and
Lavender Cottage for Mosaic Monday
and Amaze me Monday.
How many of you remember this song and cartoon?

Good Morning, Diane. The cactus blooms are bright and pretty. Love the yellow color.. Neat capture of the ugly bug! Thank for sharing your walk and blooms.. Have a happy day and new week ahead!
I have never seen cacti in bloom in the wild Diane. Very pretty. And the Bug Ball reminds me of the tv show My little ones enjoyed, Miss Spider's Tea Party!! Ok, I will be honest and say I enjoy watching Miss Spider too.:)
Diane, When I was a kid I would gather, catch or touch any bug...No more, I am a big scardy cat. I get all creeped out when I see them. Wow, You and your husband taking all those hikes. How wonderful. Blessings, be safe today bad weather seems to be headed your way.xoxo,Susie
Wow, those cactus needles are kinda scary! Neat though. Such pretty blooms!
I think it;'s surprising that cacti have such pretty flowers!
Gorgeous blooming cacti!!! It's just amazing the beauty they offer!! Have a wonderful day!
I love to look at cactus but ouch on those quills! Ugly Bug Ball...made me smile.

Linda
Beautiful blooms but icky bugs...Yikes! Now I'm feeling them crawling all over. Does that ever happen to you when you see them? Hee, Hee, hee. Wishing you a wonderful new week Diane.
Hugs and Kisses,
❤️Ana
I'm not familiar with the song but that is ONE UGLY BUG! Congrats on your hikes and thanks for sharing your finds along the way.
Lovely to hear Burl Ives again, but I don't remember the song nor the cartoon. That bug gets the Ugly Bug Award for sure! And those needles on the cactus are pretty impressive looking, too.
Oh what pretty flowers - I always loved seeing the cactus blooms when we lived in the desert. And that song is so darling - I had never heard of it before - I must show my grandsons. Thanks for the fun my friend.
Oh what a brilliant yellow in these flowering cacti! I can imagine what the landscape looked like: mini bursts of sunlight among the greenery!
Thanks for sharing, my friend.
Wishing you a lovely week!
Poppy
Diane,
Who would have thought that this pretty flower would blossom from the cactus plant? I've never heard this song before, but is that Burl Ives? I absolutely love him, and he's my favorite singer at Christmas time.
Have a splendid week.
love, ~Sheri
Hi Diane,
Beautiful blooms on the cactus! I always enjoy seeing bees happy buzzing from one bloom to another. And yes, that is an ugly bug.
Thanks so much for your recent visit and comment on my seashore bathroom.
Gina
Diane, the blooms in yellow on the cactus plants are really pretty, and so delicate next to those spikes! I don't remember the tune.
Ah Diane, you are so funny nominating that bug for the ugly bug ball - I'd never heard this before. LOL
I had no idea that cacti could support so many insects but with flowers there's nectar and pollen. I hope you didn't get scraped by one those bit needles!
Thanks for linking to Mosaic Monday, always nice to have you visit.
One of the most beautiful flowers are cactus flowers...I rarely get to see them but I swoon each time...thanks for sharing Diane.
That cactus is amazing. Beautiful. I can't get my audio to work on my computer- xo Diana
What a beautiful bunch of blooms on the cactus! They are so bright and pretty. I don't remember that old Burl Ives song at all. Cute. Some bugs really are ugly aren't they. Have a great week.
I so enjoy your beautiful photos.
Even your ugly bug.
Have agreat week sweet friend.
Big woolie hugs too :0)
Jimmeny Cricket and Burl Ives. Thanks for the memories. Here when the cactus bloom on the prairie it is worth a walk. Great photos, Diane.
Such a pretty shade of yellow! Bright and cheerful! I haven't seen too many flowers or too many insects yet but any day now....I hope. Cold and rainy today but at least its not snow! Looks like you had yet another lovely day for a hike! Have a good week Diane!
Hugs,
Linda
Hi Diane,

Carolyn
Beautiful bright blooms on the cactus. so very pretty....and the little bees and bugs are just as cute as can be...
Love the cactus - the flowers are so pretty. Have a great week sweetie!!
Evening, love the pretty cactus pictures, even the crawlers. Thanks for sharing.blessings Francine.
Cactus flowers are always so beautiful--maybe because they last only a few days. There is one cactus whose bloom only lasts a few hours! I guess the bugs have to take advantage of the nectar while they can.
That is a pretty yellow bloom on the cactus. Looks like a beautiful walk even if it did have an ugly bug along the way! :)
Ewww on the ugly bug. The cacti are beautiful, though.
How special to find these exquisite blooms.......and good to see the bugs busy again.
Enjoy your day!
Oh, what a great song! I do remember this; thanks for the memories! Made me smile this morning!
Wonderful cactus flowers! It must have been a lovely hike! Thank you for sharing and have a great week!
Yep, he's ugly alright! But the cactus flowers sure are pretty!
Oh I loved Burl Ives, but I didn't remember that one until I watched it. Too much fun. Thanks. Oh yeah and I loved your cacti flowers and the bugs ( none of which are ugly really).
I knew immediately what you were referring to by the ugly bug ball. I had forgotten the refrains, but I can still sing the chorus after what, maybe 50 years. Disney knew how to do it.
