I thought she had packed her belongings to leave home but then I realized she had just packed a picnic lunch to go out to the countryside to enjoy nature. (hopefully not here in Florida, the mosquitoes have taken over the natural settings here! lol)
I am trying to use what I have so I had to ‘dig’ through my stash. I didn’t have what I needed for the red top so I cut a ‘homemade’ cloth placemat for her top. The red ric rac is vintage and the blue denim was about 3 yards that I got for $1 awhile back. The belt is a pretty piece of ribbon that my daughter in law gave me a long time ago. She also crocheted the little Mary Jane shoes for my dolls.
Ginger is such a beautiful doll that she looks good in anything, I think.
And it’s fun to make doll clothes but if you are a novice at sewing, be aware that the doll clothes patterns can be challenging.
Look at the instructions for this simple skirt.
You can’t really take short cuts either, or you will get frustrated working with the small pieces. They need to be cut accurately and sewn together properly. A cutting board is a must and ironing each seam and hem makes a world of difference. Keep the iron on low while you sew and press between each step.
Sewing should be FUN!!!

This is such a cute little outfit! I love making doll clothes for this size of doll. My mom used to make all our Barbie clothes, and they are SO fussy. She made all our Barbies lined winter wool coats, and also some very intricate square dancing dresses for them. I made Barbie clothes ONCE for my niece and that was quite enough for me! I don't think I'd have the patience for those tiny pieces now. Enjoy your day Diane!

Such a sweet dolly in her outfit, adorable!!!! Blessings Francine.
Hi Diane! Oh, I'm so glad you're doing this again. Ginger looks beautiful in her skirt and top. Looks like she's in Mexico! ;) You do such a beautiful job on your outfits and I know what you mean about some of the patterns are not too easy. I just assume a lot and then I get into trouble. So far I've picked these easy little outfits and they go together pretty easily. Thank you so much for the shout out! I'll do the same for you!
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
I used to love sewing and sewed for myself and my children. It was only after I made myself follow a pattern EXACTLY that I began to enjoy sewing.
What a precious little doll! Ginger is a lucky one to have such am adorable wardrobe! I've always heard it's hard to sew doll clothes, you are an amazing seamstress!
How cute! She's looking so festive in her red, white, and blue. Thanks, Diane for sharing at Vintage Inspiration Party.
She looks adorable! That's a lot of steps, but with great results. Don't let the mosquitoes carry you off!
Dearest Diane, your Ginger looks adorable in her sweet skirt and top.The colors are very Patriotic :) You are so talented, my friend, and it's always a joy to see your handmade items.
Happy 4th of July! Hugs!
Oh Diane, I love playing dress up with my dolls...I'm still a little girl at heart, I guess :-) Nice to know I'm not the only one. I am in the process of making my vintage doll a summer dress. Can't wait to get started. Ginger looks beautiful in her new outfit. Love it!
Hugs,
❤️Ana
How totally adorable Diane! Precious...you are so talented and of course, from one doll lover to another..please keep us inspired on your collection!
I love seeing all the little outfits!! So fun! I cant sew but i do love to iron!
Diane, I think you could be selling these beautiful clothes. You are so creative. Plus I must say, the shoes are awesome. Thank you for the sweet card and wishing me some magic. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
When I glanced at my blogroll this morning, you certainly got my attention! I saw "Ginger Leaves Home" and I had to immediately click over. Ha! As you can tell, I take the adventures of the Wee Ones very seriously! I can totally see why she would want to venture out of the house though to show off that darling outfit...
Have a wonderful day, my friend, and keep cool!
Such a sweet little outfit! I am going to stay away from doll clothes, or any type of clothes, way too complicated for me :)
Kim
You are a wiz with a sewing machine, Diane! All of your doll clothes rock. And then you're so thrifty, too. Happy July!
A lovely outfit for a beautiful doll. BRAVO Diane!
Don't send her up here either. The mosquitoes are terrible here too. You're right about sewing doll clothes, and modern patterns are a lot more difficult than old ones. Shouldn't that be the other way around??
Very cute. Are all the "kids" wearing red, white, and blue? What about my friend, Wendy?
No skitters here. (o: But a big storm yesterday and looks like another one today. Going to take my blankie and hid under the bed.
Hugs,
Prudence
Lovin' that great fabric for her top! What a super outfit:@)
Ginger is indeed a sweet dollie - love her picnic clothes. She could come over and picnic here but it definitely would have to be in the shade.
When I make AG doll clothes, I am always amazed at how different dolls are different sizes. There is a variance in the stuffing of the body I think. Most of the girls' dolls are at least 20 years old so maybe it's improved now. I always made sure I had a doll to fit the clothes to as I was sewing.
Cute outfit!
Judy
Oh she is just dressed perfectly for an Independence Day weekend picnic!
Yes, she really is a beautiful doll!
You have been sewing! Ginger is so cute in her lovely new red, white and blue outfit! How festive for the upcoming holiday! I do not do as well sewing little tiny things....the bigger the better! But you certainly do an amazing job sewing tiny clothes for your dolls.
Hope all is well,
xo

Ginger looks cute in her new outfit. I love seeing the creations you girls come up with for your dolls. I've been over to see Marion at Shelia's place as well.

Ginger looks so festive! I'm glad she didn't leave for good!
I need to bone up on my sewing. Now I have an added incentive - I just found out my soon-to-be grandchild is a girl! I want to make her some cute little dresses!
Ginger is so darn cute and I love her Mary Jane's! She looks like the perfect addition to your Americana vignette!
hugs,
Jann

Ginger is such a pretty doll, Diane. She looks like a Fourth of July doll with the clothes she's wearing. She has a sweet face, and love those darling red shoes.

Very beautiful outfit, Diane! You're really good at making clothes for your dolls. I love the last picture! Everything looks great together! :)
She's really cute......love the shoes!
Happy Thursday!
So talented you are!
She is a beautiful doll...I agree! You are so creative and talented when it comes to sewing those sweet little outfits. Your 4th of July vignette is adorable!
I always said it takes as much effort (or more!) making doll clothes than it does to sew adult clothes.
See is all set for the 4th of July now, Diane.
