Seen through the kitchen window…

Quick, grab the camera!

I only got one photo before she flew!

She landed on the gutter of the house next door.

(I cropped and sharpened the photo)

A more common sight in Florida right now are the Nighthawks.

Dozens of them can be seen swooping and flying in the late afternoons catching flying insects! YAY!!!

It’s hard to get a good close up so I’ll show you the ID photo from Wikipedia.

I’m joining Saturday’s critters HERE.

Enjoy your weekend! Island with a palm tree

WOW - that's a nice lucky shot for sure.

What a magnificent bird!

Glad they eat insects - hope not the fireflies- I love those- but they can have all the mosquitos they can eat! LOL!

Have a wonderful weekend.

I think your little guy might be a red shouldered hawk. They eat snakes! Such a pretty specimen!

We have a lot of red hawks here in our area and I always enjoy watching them soar off from the telephone poles. That seems to be where i see them the most...I guess they are looking for prey!

Great photo - and how lucky that she stayed until you could at least get us one shot to enjoy. I'd love to see the night hawks - we have a lot of bats here to eat our bugs and one day I found a small one sleeping inside the closed deck umbrella - once I opened the umbrella the bat flew away to a darker spot to sleep the day away.

Oh yes, she is a beauty :)
We have kestrels, sparrowhawks, buzzards (smallest first) but they are mostly shy of domestic gardens. I love them!

Diane, Quick , send me a shipment of those nighthawks. LOL...you know the mosquitoes are getting thick around these parts. Tooo much rain and it is standing in the fields and yards. I just came from Sheri's Red Rose Alley blog. She is a sweetheart. I wanted to tell you , that you are special to me , even though we have not met, you are my friend. xoxo,Susie

They are such majestic and powerful birds! We have a lot of them here because we are surrounded by forest preserves but I've never seen one long enough to grab a picture.

Diane said...

Very neat! We hear a nighthawk buzzing by every night. You can almost set your watch to it.

Diane,
wow, is that a hawk? You don't usually see them flying around in the neighborhoods. I'm glad you had your camera ready to get a picture of him. Thank you for your comment on my friendship post today. I am getting so many lovely ones.

Hi Diane. Nice shot of the Hawk, and those Nighthawks are awesome. I've gotten only one photo of them that was worth keeping! They're just too quick for me.

Oh AWESOMENESS you got one of my Red-Shouldered Hawk favorites and a great snap too! I love Nighthawks, but hardly ever get to see them, except occasionally, when we travel~

Great photos!! We see Hawks around here a lot. I go out with my 2 little Yorkies, because I worry that a hawk just might try to take one of them.
