We love candles and ‘mood lighting’ in our home, especially in the winter months.
So we have a lot of candles that are on timers that come on in the evenings and lamps with dimmers.
But real candles are nice to have on hand too. I buy these tall glass candles from Dollar Tree and ‘spruce them up a bit’!
This week I added some Velum paper with soft white designs to add to my white candles.
I did a tutorial a few years ago, so I’ll share it again today. You can either use paper you have or print out a nice image.
This particular print I copied as a 5 by 7 but I made others full page and cut them down.
I trimmed the top and bottom to get the perfect size.
You need some overlap but not too much...so I marked and trimmed....
then I used double stick tape. You could glue but I LOVE double stick tape!
SO EASY!
Stick on one side…
Lay it down and wrap around....
And this is how it will look...
and then the FUN begins!
I loved deciding what ribbon or embellishment to use! Vintage lace and trims are the best!
I need to add a little something to these now!
And on one of our hikes we picked up this branch with pinecones still attached and I thought it looked so pretty! (thanks hubby for carrying it the whole way! LOTS to be thankful for!)
I’m joining Thankful Thursdays today!

Diane, I love your shell collection. I some times will bring branches in the house. I like to smell pine. Love you candle ideas. I got compliments on my candles this Christmas. Blessings for a carefree new year. xoxo, Susie
Hello, great ideas for sprucing up the candles. They look pretty, I like the pine cones too.
Enjoy your day and the weekend ahead. I wish you all the best in 2017, Happy New year!
Love your candles. I'm a bit afraid of real candles with a cat around. Oh your shell collection is growing! Wishing you a wonderful New Year sweet Sis!
Oh wow Diane, I just got out the exact same candle, bought hust before Christmas and have been thinking about how to fancy it up a bit. Right now I've put it in the center of a collection of pinecones. Great minds think alike. I love your little branch with pinecones on it and is that a candle in a shell, perhaps a coconut. I made candles in some big shells I collected from the beach last summer. Have a lovely day.

That looks so good! I have a new Christmas gift...a printer. Now I might actually be able to figure this out!

Very pretty and quite unique! We love candles in our home as well. What a fun project! Have a great evening! ♥
I love candles too and these are beautiful. I especially like the candle in the...shell? Is it a shell? It is so pretty with the pinecones and evergreen along side. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas! Wishing you many, many blessings in 2017, my sweet friend! ♥
The candles you made are so pretty, Diane. They are creative. I know which ones you are talking about at the Dollar Tree because I get the religious ones sometimes too. Candles really cozy up the spaces in our homes and are so heartwarming. I hope you are having nice days after Christmas. :)
love, ~Sheri
Awesome! Good work!
...darn, you're crafty! Happy New Year!
The candles are beautiful, Diane! Love your printer tray full of beachy finds! The branch is so pretty for a winter table. Wishing you a Happy New Year, dear friend. Hugs xo Karen

I also like to have candles around. Not neccessarily as a decorative item, more as a spiritual one. When I light a candle I'll also say dome sort of prayer. It makes me feel good, and the prayer is usually answered.
These are beautiful!!! I am planning a bridal shower -- not sure I can get them done in time, but what a great idea. I am definitely bookmarking this -- the possibilities are endless!
That's a neat idea about the candle covers- I have never thought of that. Cool shell collection, too.
How pretty that is and looks easy and fun to do. Great job.
What a great idea lavender sis - from plain to elegant!
I have to tell you I'm still giggling after leaving a comment on Vee's blog where when scrolling I saw a comment about slapping and thought the worst and something had happened over the holiday.
Reading the fine print I realized you said your scale slapped you - well geez, that is so funny. :-) Mine did give me a nudge and I'm trying to be good by tracking meals and fitness on My Fitness Pal. (again:-(
Happy New Year Diane!
I love candles too and have electric and real all over the place. It just makes things so much nicer. That is a great idea to decorate your candles. And I especially love the branch with pine cones. Hope you have a good New Year's!
Candles can add such a warming and welcome glow to the house.
I like these, I also like the branch with pine cones ... it's perfect.
All the best Jan
Your work with decoration of the candles is lovely!
When living in the Netherlands we regularly lighted candles, but have to admit that we didn't continue that tradition after we landed in Southern California a few decades ago. Probably, because most of the year we tried to cool the house down:). Maybe now living in the mountains we should try this again!
Awesome idea! Thanks for sharing! I love candles too. Happy New Year!
Well, you are my kind of gal! I love getting things from GoodWill or the Dollar Store and creating something beautiful. I LOVE the candle you decorated! I must get down to the Dollar Store to see if they have any left.
AND, your pine branch with pine cones is an awesome find. I knew that that husband of yours was a keeper! I like fresh pine on the table. It smells so wonderful!
Hello, This was really a very neat idea! And your photos of the birds were magnificent! And you put me to shame in hearing about how many hikes you have taken, I feel like a slug!
Happy New Year!
Blessings, Roxy
