Florida Crackers are the pioneers and early settlers of Florida.
According to Wikipedia, “Florida cracker refers to colonial-era English and American pioneer settlers and their descendants in what is now the U.S. state of Florida.”
And it sure is fun to go to Rainbow Springs for Cracker Days!

and interesting food.
(Maybe next time…I took a picnic lunch! lol)
It was beautiful as always! Most of the azaleas have finished blooming but there were still pretty flowers, trees and plants everywhere!

Rainbow Springs really is beautiful. I lived next door to some true FL crackers and they were some of the best people I have ever known. Funny, too. I loved Ed's saying---"I'm gonna carry Mama down ta the store"......He was going to drive her for groceries. lol xo Diana

It is such a pretty place. My favorite grade to teach was 4th. I always loved teaching Florida History.

"Cracker" is also a slang term for 'white people'...maybe that's where it came from. Maybe it was generated by the Native Americans when the pioneers showed up?
I've only been here 30 years . . . but my blood is as thin as a cracker's, I think.

The US is so BIG and diverse. I have never heard of Cracker Days. In fact, when I first saw the word "cracker" I thought of another meaning...and not the actually edible cracker. LOL Maybe that is where that slang came from.
i have heard that expression in the past. i like going to events that have hand crafted items - the bird houses are beautiful!!
You make me want to throw my pajamas and toothbrush in the camper van and head for Rainbow Springs! (If it were actually that simple, I'd do it ... sigh ... the older we get, the more baggage we need to take wherever we go.). Still, your area and this beautiful Park are definitely on our to be visited list. Someday.

What a fun festival, Diane. The park looks very intriguing, as do the activities. The menu, I'd leave to the Crackers who are definitely connoisseurs of these culinary specialites!
