I'm RICH!!! (with books)

I went to the Freedom County Library book sale last week and found some wonderful books.

I try to be very selective. I only spent $12 but I don't have a lot of empty space on my bookshelves. (I'm constantly sorting and donating the ones I've read and don't want to keep)

But I can't resist old books,

children's books,

and books by authors I love.

I probably wouldn't have bought Image of Josephine except for the letter inside.

Dearest Mama....isn't that priceless!

And how about the Cornell reading room regulations.

Very fun to find inside Silas Marner.

Books!!! I love them! I have these on my library table to look through and read.

What are you reading now?

I’m joining Thankful Thursdays.

The letter is so neat! It's like a little peek at the past. I miss letters.

Oh I have an old copy of Shepherd of the Hills just like that...same color, same picture. Fun gathering of books and the old letter was fun. I laughed reading that the candy was "lousy." And I liked the reference to the Shirley Temple doll. That's what makes letters of value...any that tell more about ordinary living in very specific ways.

Hello Diane, I too love books. I just got done reading a book about art and fear recommended by my daughters art teacher. I start drawing and then I stop. I don't know why I do this. I think that I just get involved with crocheting, reading, my 2 clubs I belong to, my blog, and just taking care of my daughter and husband and all of the everyday things we have to do. The book was a little boring. Lol. I do need a new book to read that I will enjoy. I need to stop by the library for a new one. I would love to start reading the Maisie Dobbs series.

Thanks for the visit and have a nice day sweet friend.

Hugs, Julie xo

Hello Diane, looks like you found some great books. I love that letter to Dearest Mom. Are these all your favorite authors. I loaded two mysteries onto my ipad for my upcoming trip. Happy Thursday, enjoy your day and weekend!

Love the letter!... and Susan Branch is one of my favorite authors/illustrators... her story about resettling on Marthas Vineyard is a wonderful read.

You and my hubby are two of a kind. He loves books! He reads all. the. time!

I read Silas Marner when I was in high school and I loved that story. I don't read much any more since I have glaucoma. I am thankful for computers with high magnification.

I can never pass a box of old books. I am drawn to them same as I was a kid. I love my Kindle, but I still love to hold a book in my hand. Old books are eye candy to me. I have quite a few myself. Just the other day, I went to a yard sale and came home with two old Better Homes and Gardens books...one decorating and one gardening.

I would have fought you for the Susan Branch. Just saying!

I love old books too and sometimes pick them up although my shelves are bulging and no matter how many I resell or donate the shelves don't get any lighter! Looks like you had a wonderful haul!

That's a great selection of books - I spy a Susan Branch book, one by Alcott, and more. Old books with pressed flowers or notes in them say something about the previous owner, don't they?
I'm reading a Rhys Bowen book for light reading and Deep Work for something deeper (haha).

What treasures you found! Dearest Mama! I loved the letter!! Oh, the stories those books could tell! I always wonder about the hands that have held old back.....

I love old books like you and you got some terrific ones! Susan Branch book sell for a lot....lucky you! Also, I think I have The Sheperd of the HIlls...but I couldn't find it...maybe it 's not the same one. I'll look again later. I'm still reading the Harry Potter Goblet of Fire and The House on the Irish Hillside. But I did get some Kindle 'deals'. Betsy Tacy books and all of Louisa May Alcott. Enjoy your 'treasures'!

Books are such treasures.
I'm not a kindle book reader although I know many are avid fans, to me you can't beat the feel of a book in your hands and visiting old book shops, even new book shops is a joy.

Great post.

All the best Jan

Diane, you always find the most interesting books, and this letter you found inside, that's a treasure. I love your hard cover books, I prefer those, and your children's books always make me smile. : ) "The Quiet Little Woman" sounds intriguing.

I don't think I've read The Quiet Little Woman. You did have quite a win there at the library with the old books especially--and a Nancy Drew! How fun. The letter just is the icing on the cake!

Oh you got a treasure of books there.
I have a collection of all the Nancy Drew books. I've collected them over many years.

Oh my gosh what treasure. Love the letter and the old Cornell Reading Room regulations .... but the books!! Wow what finds. I'm particularly interested in the Louisa May Alcott "The Quiet LIttle Woman" I think it says ... and maybe something like 'a Christmas Story"?? (My eyes aren't as good as they used to be).... anyway, I don't know this book and it sounds like she might have published a quick story for the Holiday gift trade, the way many authors do today. I know she was pretty much supporting her parents and sisters with her writing so I wouldn't be surprised.

Anyway, I'd love to dig into any and all of these wonders -- what great times waiting for you.

Old books are fascinating, I always try to imagine who owned them and the places the books had been. I'm just starting a new mystery series, The Scottish Bookshop Mysteries by Paige Shelton.

I like old books, too. Funny, I got that one Before the Mast for my kindle just the other day.

My question is, do you like Harold Bell Wright? And have you read John Fox, Jr? I have a few of them...I think you are the first person I have ever seen mention them. And have you read A Lantern In Her Hand by Bess Streeter Aldrich? It is one of my favorite books.

Oh, I love that letter!!!!

I do love old books, too, and what a treat to find a letter inside. Sometimes I've found recipes or news clipping used as book markers, and they're so fun to find. xo

Gosh there is nothing like books is there, and something so special about the old ones. I try to limit myself. I usually have several books on the go and have just discovered audiobooks for while I am stitching. YouTube has a great free selection. I've always been looking for an old book called Good Morning Miss Dove. If anyone knows where I can get it, I'd appreciate it! Happy Weekend All.

I have limited space too, but if I ever stop at the used books aisles, I'm there for a good long time. You found some nice ones with interesting inserts. I just read Silas Marner this winter. I once saw a very large set of very old Nancy Drew mysteries at the thrift store, and it took all my willpower to walk away from them. Enjoy your reading adventure!

I love old books, too, Diane. What a treasure that letter is that you found in the book. I have parted with so many books this year--it is like losing old friends sometimes. Sad in a way but freeing in other ways.

Hope you have a great weekend. xo Diana

That is why I volunteer at our library bookstore. You have some great finds there and I especially love the letter! When I lived in Iowa, I volunteered at the Hoover Presidential Library and always loved reading all the old letters there. We just don't write letters much anymore do we? Jackie

Wow - wonderful finds. I love finding interesting things in books. Our daughter-in-law is a librarian and she says they find weird and amazing things inside books. The funniest was a bra - who could forget that in a book? Who would put that in a book? I'm reading Irish House on a Hill - it is a wonderful journal type book about buying a house in Ireland - just the kind of book I adore.

I love books, old and new and my house is bursting at the seams of books. I just started a new "dystopian" called "Borne." I found it via an email from its publisher. Finding it very interesting.
