Our Founding Fathers

Have you watched this DVD or read the book? I read the book, John Adams by David McCullough a few years ago and watched the shows too. A week ago we decided to watch them again. We like to watch TV for about an hour in the evenings so this worked out perfectly. Each show is about an hour and there are 3 DVDs (7 shows).

If you haven't seen it I would highly recommend it.

It's not easy to be reminded of the hardships our country endured to ensure our freedoms but we can all be very thankful for our Founding Fathers and the sacrifices they made.

A quote from John Adams on Wikiquote,

Posterity! you will never know how much it cost the present generation to preserve your freedom! I hope you will make a good use of it. If you do not, I shall repent in Heaven that I ever took half the pains to preserve it.
  • Letter to Abigail Adams (27 April 1777), published as Letter CXI in Letters of John Adams, Addressed to His Wife (1841) edited by Charles Francis Adams, p. 218

I am going to have to check the DVD's out or Netflix or something like that, because I love history and I hate TV. My hubby is a TV watcher so this would be a nice change.

Hello, thanks for the DVD review. I wonder what our founding fathers would think of our country as it is now. Happy Thursday, enjoy your day and weekend ahead!

We saw 1776 last year to celebrate Independence Day. I loved the song, Sit Down John. John Adams was certainly a force to be reckoned with!

I've just spent an hour grazing through Wikiquote. I didn't know it existed. Very cool.

Yes, Diane, I've watched John Adams. It's a great reminder of so many things (and people) we can be thankful for, ones we seldom think about. We take so much for granted.

That looks like a great series. Jim and I both enjoy historical programs and such! Thanks for sharing!

Yes, we saw that and we both enjoyed it very much! My husband read the book but I have not!

Hope you aren't overly hot! We were earlier in the week but it is gorgeous here today! Sending hugs!

I will watch it on my Kindle soon. That is a powerful quote. We really need to think about those people and what they went through more often than most of us do. I read a book called 1787, about the framers of the constitution. There they were, meeting in Philadelphia in the summer. Dressed the way people dressed back then. I thought about that, in addition to all they accomplished, they were dressed like that in the heat and humidity of an East coast summer. They met, they hammered it out, they negotiated, they compromised, and they got it done. It's a powerful book and a remarkable feat.

Diane, You know how satilite TV works(doesn't ) when it rains. Some times we pop in movies to watch during rain showers. This would be a good one. Blessings to you and your sweetie. xoxo, Susie

Watched the show... Amazing!! I think I would have picked up and enjoyed and remembered history so much more if we had gotten a chance to learn it by watching this!

Sometimes the way things are going one wonders what the founding fathers would think. This quote gives a lot of insight. We can't drop the ball now...

I've never seen this movie, Diane. There's not much good on tv these days, and this sounds like a good one. Thanks for suggesting it. : )

Have a nice rest of the week and weekend.
