Thrift Store Goodies!

I’ve found some neat things to share in my ‘treasure hunts’ at the Hospice Thrift Store this week!

DSCN5001

I’ve always wanted a set of these handmade linens. I’ve even thought about making some. They are pouches to store or carry your silverware and napkins.

So when I saw these…with beautiful hand embroidery…I snatched them up. ($4 + I got a discount)

And who can resist a soap dish with roses,

DSCN5003

made in Cornwall England! ($2 + a discount)

Then when I stopped at the library on the way home, these quilting books were in the ‘giveaway magazine bin’. I don’t quilt….YET! But they have some beautiful photos and some small projects (like pin cushions) inside. And I always give things back when I no longer need or want them.

So that was some of my fun this week. Too hot to get out in nature and we are still having those little pop up showers every day. It makes it hard to plan fun outdoor activities.

Have you been thrift shopping lately? Found anything good?

Great finds Diane! The rose soap dish reminds me of French Country pottery - romance of past times.

you found a good amount of DEALS and the silver pouches are really pretty. mother loved to embroider. I only go to a thrift store when I need a specific item and I almost always find what I need.. I am not a browser, but a shop by list

Well, didn't you find some sweet little treasures this week, I love the pottery dish from Cornwall, I have just the place for it! The hand embroidered cutlery bags are so lovely, my imagination goes into overdrive when I find something hand made such as these and wondering who created them with such love.
Happy Mosaic Monday.

Wow!!! You hit the jack pot of thrifting . . . great job!!!
I love hand embroidery too . . . it's like you have a connection to the person who did the work just by holding it in your hands:)
Have a lovely week.

You found some nice things, Diane, and I think it's great that you support the hospice thrift store. I really like that rose soap dish. You can use it as a candy dish as well. I've always thought it was such a talent when one sews quilts. My sister quilts, and it sounds like something you'd like. It's always fun to see all the goodies you find at the thrift shops. Thanks for sharing.

Oh those linens are beautiful! I've not see ones like that. I'm ALWAYS drawn to vintage linens and doilies. I just made some banners using old linens/doilies too. And that DISH . . . I'm ALSO a sucker for those trinket/soap dishes! That one is especially beautiful! Great finds!

What a collection of great finds. I'm especially envious of the linens. I always wonder about who did the embroidery and the story behind the items. These days, I read about doing projects like quilting or sewing far more than actually doing anything. Have a good week, even if you have to stay indoors because of the heat and rain showers.

Diane, Love the linens! I try to go thrifting regular but I have been busy with other things and it has been a while. Tomorrow will be a day for that. I will keep you posted. Thanks for sharing and have a great week. Sylvia D.

Wonderful finds. It's odd how so many people just overlook quilting and sewing books. You made some great finds/buys. I was just thinking yesterday that it's about time to go thrift-shopping again very soon.

Good Morning, dear friend. I like your new summery header! Those embroidered silver pouches are a treasure! Lucky you. Sweet soap dish, also. I do the same with thrift store books/magazines...gift them back when I am finished to give someone else joy. Enjoy your day.

Diane,

I love thrift shops...but I haven't been lately. In our Texas home we downsized and i made myself a promise not to bring "stuff" back in, but I sure enjoy seeing your finds.
Thanks for coming by and yes...I finally did those darn dishes...got tired of waiting on you!

I expect that we will see some quilts here soon. ☺ No thrifting so no finds...

Diane you find the prettiest things! I love hand embroidery, so old fashioned and pretty. I LOVE THAT PRETTY SOAPDISH too. Dont see many of those anymore, most everyone uses the dispenser things. Of course, you can use it for lots of other things too, I would probably put jewelry in it, like rings. What are you going to use it for, or just display it to be pretty? Are y 'all getting any of this rain? My gosh, it comes a big thunderstorm most every day now. It's hot and humid. Our gardens are very very happy and growing so fast! Our daily walks are becoming very sweaty and harder to keep going. Soon we will only be able to do night walks, or right around sunset at the earliest. Much too hot in the daytime.

Loved happening on your blog. For years I've loved to go thrifting to find interesting or refurbishing things. I found some linens few years back and still can't decide how to use them. Your tableware ones are lovely. :)

Since I am working on a set of hand-embroidered towels at the moment, I am so tickled you were drawn to those embroidered linens. I can tell from the close-up that they are well done.

I recently bought three trays - two made of a silvery metal with handles, and one a heavy bronze-colored metal mesh of sorts. Plus a couple of unique wine glasses - you will see all of these items in future house-decorating posts!!! (All up I spent $10.) Yippee!

I’m drooling here over your treasures! I love all of them! Can’t believe the prices!! You rocked that thrift store!
We need rain desperately here! Funny how too much of a good thing is as bad as not enough!

I had a good time tonight looking at your thrift store finds and your photos at the pond. We have had a lot of rain also but my flowers haven't been too happy with it. Just when they get their little heads up, along comes another drencher and heat. I have never before had such tall August lilies. They loved the rain. I have been trying to catch up on my blogging friends tonight. Have a wonderful evening.

Love the little soap dish and the embroidery. I used to embroidery all the time as a teen then I ventured off to cross stitch, wanting to start back on the embroidery again...just need to get it started.
