Maybe we can get some ‘award winning’ photos!
Well I KNOW I saw some award winning sights!
We drove the backroads looking for something that we didn’t exactly find!
So it turned into a fun ‘unexpected’ adventure!
What we DID find was peanuts growing as far as the eye could see.
And we stopped at a gate and got out for photos and could see all the way to the Gulf Coast!
I’m still amazed living here in Florida that we can be so close to the Gulf Coast AND the Atlantic! (as the crow flies!)
We’ve had enough rain so far this summer to keep the fields a deep summer shade of green.
You just never know what you’ll see when you get out on the backroads. We saw an eagle too but didn’t get any photos of it. That didn’t take away the excitement of the experience though!
As you can tell….I liked all of my photos AND all of my mosaics!

My daddy grew peanuts on our farm when I was a girl...just a row or two for our family to enjoy. Mother would put them in the oven with butter and salt and we surely enjoyed them while watching tv in the winter evenings. Thanks for bringing back a sweet memory. I love how you just take off looking for adventure!!
One year my grandfather wanted my sister and I to see how peanuts grew so he planted a row in the back yard. We had so much fun watching them and enjoyed some peanuts when fall came. We actually got quite a bit from that little patch. I am in love with all of your photos. What a beautiful place you live in.
Diane, I never knew peanuts were grown in Florida. Yes it is amazing that you can visit the gulf and the ocean in one trip across the state. Finding the unexpected is one of the joys of going on a Sunday jaunt when there's no particular place to go. Those wide open skies in North Central Florida are a sight to behold indeed. Happy MM.

I did enjoy going with you on your Sunday drive. My son has a garden next door and he is growing peanuts for the first time. His crop wont be quite that big, but it is fun to look forward to eating them! Have a good Monday.

one thing you did not mention is the fact your proved the grass IS greener on the other side of the road/fence..... and I like all your photos of sky and fields and fences... I to love the sky all the way from coast to coast. when we crossed the line from GA into FL back when we used to take vacations, the sky said Welcome Home, your in Florida
Amazing scenery, and If I didn't know better, I would not have guessed it was Florida terrain! I don't believe I've ever seen a field of peanuts, wasn't sure what they'd look like in their growing state.

I love taking trips like that. The green of the fields is amazing and a balm to my eyes. Everything around here is a dull beige.
I wonder where that expression Sunday drive came from. I love back road drives and you never know what you'll come upon. It sure looks nice and green there.

Peanuts! Really! I shouldn’t be as surprised as I am, cuz I’m a geography whiz and all that and I know Georgia is right next door and I know they are famous for them, but I truly did not know Florida farmed them. The green fields and blue skies are lovely.....and my favorite of all drives (or walks) are those where you discover beautiful or interesting things just by chance!

I've never seen peanuts growing before. I do like to eat them though...from the shell.
How does the song go? On a clear day you can see forever! Well, maybe not forever but pretty darned far. And it's beautiful indeed!

Howdy there Diane! Love this post! We love jumping in the car and taking a good long Sunday drive too, and we often do! Wow, just look at this gorgeous country scenery......blue and green as far as you can see and such pretty big puffs of clouds. I love days like this, out on the back roads. Sometimes we take a picnic, and always snacks and drinks. Just habit, I guess. I love these country drives with y'all. I like your walks around your neighborhood too. And your hikes. It's all fun to see.
And here, we see corn as far as the eye can see--or at least to the next ditch for fence line. I like your mosaics, very interesting. I may never get to your part of the country, so I very much enjoy tagging along with you as you explore your home. Hope you are having a great week.

Hi There, Saw your post on someone else's blog --so decided to check back with you. I think I must have lost contact --as I have with many bloggers.. This past year has been rough --but things are looking up and I am trying to blog more often.
How often do you get back to the Blue Ridge Mtn areas??? Do you still own a home there? I assume you are living and enjoy FL very much. I used to live in Jacksonville (in the 80's) --but also lived in Venice (south of Sarasota) in the '70's... Hubby's son and family live near Tampa --so when we drive down there, we drive down through the middle of the state (probably coming not too far from where you live)... l

My Mother grew peanuts here in AR in her back yard. Love the rural setting.
Makes me think of Jimmy Carter, the peanut farmer … I take all my pictures with my phone, and often I think they look better on the phone than they do once I have transferred them to my computer!

What I notice in the pictures is the white sandy soil peaking out from under the plants. I always heard peanuts would only grow in sandy soil but then one day I planted some in my rocky, hard clay Tennessee soil. They grew fine until harvest time and then I could not pull them up out of the soil. They were stuck. I discovered if I waited until after a hard rain, they would slip right out of the mud.

I can never get enough of the country drives, Diane. In fact, I have a post coming up about my drive in the country. It looks so green there, and that's unusual for the summer days. The peanut crop must have been a sight! My favorite picture is the hat on the gate - that's wonderful. It says "summer days" to me.
