A Woman’s Prerogative!

I wanted to talk about my right to wake up one morning and feel the need to change everything! But first I had to learn to spell prerogative. I think I’ve been pronouncing it  ‘perogative’ my whole life….which is probably not the same thing at all! lol

I needed to add some color! I needed FLOWERS!

So I told my husband I was going to make a quick trip to the big store that is very close to our house that starts with a W…that has everything! I usually stay on the grocery side of the store. But today I planned to buy a pot plant or some fresh cut flowers. He suggested I look at the silk flowers. I expected them to look ‘cheap’ but I was pleasantly surprised! (and I like the idea of carefree flowers…no water, no fuss!) I bought 1 bunch for $5, 1 for $3 and 3 small bunches for 97 cents each. What a BARGAIN! And I had fun arranging them in baskets I already had at home.

DSCN5231

My main goal was a pretty arrangement for my kitchen table.

And I think these are perfect. Some color but not too bright and ‘fakey’.

DSCN5234

Then I put birds at the base.

DSCN5233

Then I put the birds on some small books.

DSCN5242

I made a little arrangement of the 97 cent flowers in this pretty basket for the lanai.

DSCN5247

Isn’t this little painted basket pretty?

DSCN5246

I wanted the big sunflowers but didn’t really want to make another arrangement so I stuck them in this basket as I walked by.

DSCN5238

It’s in the foyer next to the front door.

DSCN5239

Oh…..and then I went back and put all the birds and books back on the bookshelf and found some rooster salt and pepper shakers.

DSCN5251

There….MUCH BETTER! heehee!

DSCN5250

Do you look around sometimes and think that you can’t stand something a minute longer…time for a change?

I’m thankful to be a woman!

Now if only I could find some new oval placemats!

I’m joining Thankful Thursdays.

I like your changes. Sometimes we just need to fluff things up. They all look so pretty. Oval placemats ARE hard to find.

The fabric flowers are lovely. I especially like the summery sunflowers. Enjoy the rest of your week and thank you for stopping by my blog this week.

Not only did you find a bargain, but they all turned out so pretty....good job! I love change!

Diane, Yes, the rooster were the perfect little accent for that basket of flower. I like all the colors. You got a bargain. I have paid more for less. LOL Hobby Lobby has tons of wonderful fake flowers too. Did you paint that basket?:):) The basket of sunflowers by the metal vine on the wall is great. You have some decorator genes girly. Enjoy your new things. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
p.s. now I have to start looking around, I have not changed anything up for along time.

Very, very pretty! I love all of your arrangements. Silk flowers have gotten a lot more real looking over the years.

I saw, but did not buy, bunches of a dozen real roses in various colors reduced to 7.97 at the big W last week. I was tempted, but how nice, as you said, not to have to worry about watering, etc.

Hello, I like your changes. The flowers are pretty. I like having flowers around the house, they make me smile. Enjoy and have a happy day!

I know exactly what you mean Diane!! And Marvin and I were talking about Prerogative and its spelling just the other day. He says you still say it like we all pronounce it so I guess we are ok as long as we do not have to spell it. I love all you vignessts!! I am doing some end of summer decorating before pulling out all the fall pumpkins etc. Just not ready for that yet!! I answered your question about getting back into cross stitch on the blog today. I am hoping more ladies will take up the craft. It is an easy one for sure.

Love your flowers, Diane. I am like that, too, just suddenly feel the need for MUST HAVE CHANGE....and off I go. It will be interesting as I move into a new, much smaller place, and have to figure out where everything goes. Wish me luck....xo Diana

Flowers always do brighten up life and they make us feel so good. Yes it is a woman perigritive--how'd you spell that--? to change things up; in fact, it is probably our job. And thanks for the alert on the link that doesn't work.

I do that, want a change. Of course I usually run out of energy before getting it done. LOL!!

Oh my gosh, I always thought it was 'perogative' too. I can't even pronounce it the other way hehehe. It's fun changing things around the house now and then. What caught my eye was that little house, it's so cute. The sunflowers add a cheerful touch too. : )

Too bad I didn't see this yesterday when my diabetes was making me miserable. It would have cheered me up immensely (and I hope I spelled that correctly). I love, love, love this post and on the more serious side: There are some valuable lessons to be learned here. How to make ourselves happy, how to share that with our friends and make them happy. And so much more.....

I think it looks great Diane.
Flowers about the house are so welcoming.

Oval placemats are not going to be easy to find!
Hope you may be successful.

All the best Jan

I'm with you. I have to have flowers at home. Must. A tiny vase, a flowering plant, a mason jar full of farmers market flowers. Doesn't matter.

Yours are wonderful!

...I'll forgive you for shopping at the W store, I never go there! As far as spelling and pronunciation I'm a lost cause.

Very pretty additions, Diane! I think perogative is something eaten by people in central Wisconsin. LOL

Sunflowers are always so cherrful

Jeanna said...

Oh, that's very nice I'm not allowing anything that decorative into my house until it's put make together so who knows, maybe around Halloween (and that's optimistic). I thought that's how you spelled and pronounced it?! It always made me hungry because it looks like, "pierogi."

I like all your silk flower arrangements. I do get tired of looking at the same stuff all the time. Right now there are a lot of things I would like to change

The flowers look fabulous and I agree with you about care-free!! And yes, I do occasionally have to make a change!! Don't we all, though!?

I crave that type of household change...a lot! lol Must be the woman coming out in me, but I like it! Thanks for linking up today!

Your arrangements look pretty in your home, Diane. I like to change things around as well. I usually get that urge when the season changes. I like what appears as a basket full of shells by your door. Shells are such lovely works of art I can never resist picking up on the beach. ♥

I'm always changing things around, big and small. Silk flowers look so real. I once had a friend who was given flowers in a pot and thought it strange how long his flowers lasted. He had been watering them once a day for quite a while. Turns out that the flowers were silk. We had a good laugh. : )

Diane, oh I love your flower vignettes! I am a sucker for all things sunflowers. Love that you went with silk flowers that won't die but last forever!! xo

LA Paylor said...

you're so funny! The flowers bring in color and won't die like every stinkin' potted plant I bought for the new house! I think the heat "done 'em in"

Diane those are so pretty! Love how you did them. You're right--back in the "old days" silk flowers didn't look so good, they were fake looking and not very nice. These days there are some real good ones to pick from! I put a bouquet of yellow zinnias and sunflowers in a blue vase in our kitchen. SORT OF A start to Fall decorating, LOL Happy weekend, my friend!

Love your play on prerogative, Diane. Thank you for the reminder. ;) Today little book and birdies, tomorrow roosters. teehee Creativity and imagination ... FUN.
Caught up with your other posts too. Wish we could go on walks together.
Happy weekend, sis.

How beautiful! I love it! I've gotten some gorgeous faux flowers from Hobby Lobby and Pottery Barn! I love the instant color it gives and you don't have to worry about watering, pruning, drawing bugs, etc...

Thank you for sharing your lovely flowers - it's amazing how they brighten up the home and make it a welcoming place! :)

Do you believe we never had a W store in NYC? Now I have one a few miles away and shop every so often for the sales. Your flowers are perfect decorations and look very natural, Diane. I have a few similar arrangements around my house but bought most of the flowers at Michaels when they have their 40% off sales

I liked how you showed the process of creating something beautiful. I have spent the day cleaning out the basement, ugh. It would have been more fun making a flower arrangement but there would be nowhere to put it for all the JUNK!

I love the arrangements - and I too like to change things around a bit now and then. I always like to have something pretty on the dining room table - flowers (Don brings me flowers a LOT) and I like to add in some special things from time to time - like your cute rooster salt and peppers - I think it just adds a bit of happiness to the house to have something different. All your flowers turned out so well - so nice and summery.
