Starting something ‘New’! Counted Cross Stitch

I’ve been wanting to start a new craft project and decided to try cross stitch again!

(a cute project in the magazine I bought)

I loved it years ago but then got interested in other sewing projects and ‘paper’ projects. I’m still making around 6 cards a week to give to the Hospice patients I meet but I wanted to try something different.

I’ve been encouraged by several of my blog friends. Arlene from Nanaland sent me an Early American cross stitch chart awhile back.

And Sandi from I Majored in Home Economics sent me these charts.

I need to start small and these Christmas patterns will be fun to make.

Thanks to both of these sweet blog friends. They have done posts on how to get started and share the projects they are working on. Sam at Farm Girl Sam shows what she’s working on too and always has an encouraging word!

Fall colors are my favorites. I found this old 1998 Cross Stitch magazine at the thrift store for 5 cents.

DSCN5356

I bought some 14 count Aida cloth and picked out some pretty DMC thread in the colors of Autumn!

So that’s what I’ve started.

A small Fall project! And so far, I’m loving it!

This ISN’T what I’ve stitched! I’m not THAT good already!

I just chose a portion of this chart to start!

What are you working on this week?

I’m joining Thankful Thursdays.

I use to cross stitch but don't see well enough now. I'm so glad you will try this hobby again. I'll enjoy seeing your creations! I am almost ready for some Fall colors myself! Hugs!

My mother loved cross stitch. I am looking at a church she did, it looks like my dad's church... he framed it for her, and I brought it home when she died in 1990... she tried to teach me, I did one cute owl... ha ha, the words I wanted to say while doing that 4 inch owl... I have zero patience with all crafts. these look like fun and I am thinking you will love it. maybe even make them as cards for your hospice... have fun

I love cross stich, Diane! I've stitched many pieces over the years and have made gifts and pieces that hang in our home. My eyes won't allow me to do it any longer--shoot! I'm sure you are going to enjoy the pretty piece you are starting on--very pretty. Enjoy yourself! ♥

I don't have those kinds of skills for but love to see cross stitching. I really like the one about chocolate (: I hope you share your finished projects and this is a perfect idea for Christmas presents. Fall colors for throw pillows and the like are my favorites too.

I've never tried cross stitch, but your projects look lovely. I really like the one that you've started. As for me, I'll just be busy cleaning house after all of our company. Then I want to get Steve's help and wash all the windows inside and out before the weather turns cold. It will be nice to have them all nice an clean before getting all cozy for the winter.
Keep Smiling!
Connie :)

I love the look of cross stitch but found I don't have the patience for it. Maybe if I tackled small projects. I wish I could say I'm working on something but I haven't done anything

I am working on decorating our upstairs, and canning tomato juice tomorrow. I’m hoping to have some time for crochet tomorrow evening. I used to do a lot of cross stitch. Love the dog riding the bike and the sunflowers! Enjoy your new-old hobby!

It's great to start new projects, especially as the season changes. I used to do cross stitch, but never really enjoyed it. I did a piece for each of our children, and one for my mom, but I was happy to put it aside. Sticking the needle into EXACTLY the right hole over and over was too much for me. I prefer embroidery, and I've just started a new project - embroidering some lavender sachets. I need little projects just now.

Diane I like everything you picked out and I just know you'll do great at these! How long does it take to do a project like these? I've never done anything like this and I pretty much think I would be awful at it! ha ha LOL No patience for sewing or crocheting anything like this, which makes me appreciate it all the more to see what people who CAN DO IT, what they create! well, it's almost the weekend, y'all going anywhere or have any fun plans?

Good for you for starting a new needlework project! My project is going to books, trying to decide what I can give away. LOL And I just realized today that I need to sew myself a new canvas bag, something with a pretty fall floral. Good luck with your project. xo

Hi,
I did a cross stitch many many years ago. I enjoyed it. I am excited for you.
One of my treasured Christmas gifts is a small cross stitch from a friend. It is so sweet and small, framed in a little gold frame.

I love cross-stitching, so your post made me very happy. You have some exciting projects ahead of you. Big ones are spectacular when they are done, but small ones give us a quicker sense of satisfaction! Now that I have finished my tea towels, I have started on a cross-stitch that my oldest sister gave me for my retirement. I will probably put that to the side for a while to work on some Christmas decorations - I couldn't get in the mood for that in July and August!

Cross stitching is such a lovely hobby. Please show us your projects when you're finished. I love all those pretty threads of Fall colors. Cross stitching reminds me of something that our grandmothers worked on. It's such a treasure to have something that is cross stitched. : )

This week I am working on canning the vegetables from the garden. Winter is when I get to sit down and sew. I couldn't sew now if I wanted to. My sewing machine is hidden under about 4 feet of things needing to be mended.

I love to cross-stitch and also quilt and would love to see your projects when they are finished.

What fun projects. I used to do cross stitch a zillion years ago, and still love it - but don't think I'll take it up again. Right now I am crocheting shawls for christmas gifts for the girls in the family - I'm just about done with shawl number four and then I can wrap them and have them all ready for the holidays. Not sure what I'll tackle next - looking for some fun ideas.
