The Hummingbird Moth and Florida Butterflies!

I go to Sholom Park at least once a week to walk.

best1

I’ve been trying my best to get some good butterfly photos! AND to learn the names of some of them!

bIMG_7824

The Swallowtail Butterfly was darker but the sun was so bright it looks brown.

cassiusblueIMG_7817

The Cassius Blue Butterfly was so small and dainty!

cloudlessulpherIMG_7815

And the Cloudless Sulphur was prolific!

I’m not sure what this is but I think it’s a Moth!

And NOW…..

the star of the park! (all taken in the flowers along the walk)

hIMG_8135

A friend of mine that walks there every day told me to be on the lookout for the Hummingbird Moth!

hIMG_8127

I was THRILLED to see one!

hIMG_8138

A little scary in this one!

hIMG_8128

Of course it was right in the open under a bright blue sky (with a blazing sun)!

But I stood there until I was about to pass out….

hIMG_8144

taking one right after another.

It’s been a few years since I’ve seen one.

hIMG_8145

They are SO amazing!

WHOA….just about missed him in this one! lol

hIMG_8136

Can you see his wings clearly?

hcropIMG_8145

You can see right through them!

Have you ever seen one?

I’m joining Mosaic Monday HERE.

So much beauty!

It's always so exciting to see a hummingbird moth! It's not very often that we see them here but it's always a highlight of the summer if we do. You were blessed on that walk!

Hello, gorgeous photos of the butterflies, moth and flowers. I am not positive but the first butterfly looks like the Giant Swallowtail. You could google for images of the Giant Swallowtail. The Hummingbird moth photos are awesome, great captures. Happy Monday, enjoy your day and new week!

You got some great pictures! I will tell you that the hummingbird moth starts out as an ugly horn worm and they can wipe out a tomato plant in a few days! We had them attacking out tomatoes this summer.

Diane, I love your butterfly photos. That hummingbird moth is amazing. I have had them here...but never have my camera with me. They do make one think of a hummer at first. I think it's fun to watch them. Whenever butterflies pass me, I hold out my hand ...Ted asks why I do that...I say in case they want to land they can. :) Blessings for a fun day there. xoxo, love Susie

I have never seen any of these and that last one is amazing. The place looks so beautiful. We have nothing like it here of course, since it is so dry.

Those hummingbird moths are pretty cool. I've seen a couple of them.
I can't seem to remember the names of butterflies but they sure are beautiful.
I'll be posting one of my own later this evening.

I have never seen a hummingbird moth before. WOW!! You got some great shots. It looks so big, and the wings are amazing. Thanks for sharing. I'm always sad that we don't see as many butterflies as we used to.

This is exciting, Diane, I've seen a hummingbird moth a couple times in my life. They are so unusual and look just like a hummingbird.

I have never been able to get a picture of a butterfly unless it was a dead one. These are really good. I've never seen a hummingbird moth before. Those are pretty cool

Those h.b. moths are truly amazing and do look a little scary when you're not expecting them! Wonderful pictures of all the flutterbys.... which almost always all flutter too quickly for me ... you must go early in the morning to catch them before they get active!

I've never seen a Hummingbird Moth - huge, looks like it could take on any comers! Thank you Diane for sharing your walk and the butterflies and moths. Visual treats.

Well done for learning the names of the butterflies. I know so few of them. That hummingbird moth is GIGANTIC and I wouldn't want to meet one on a dark night. Yikes.

All the butterflies are beautiful but the hummingbirds take the cake.

OH MY GOODNESS, HUMMINGBIRD MOTH! I've never heard of such a thing. These are awesome pictures, Diane. So clear with a lot of detail on its little body. That brown spotted butterfly is a beauty too. Wow, you were blessed to see wonderful things in nature this week.

love, ~Sheri

ps....I saw a hummingbird at the park this morning, and I'm anxious to see the pics now. I don't think they were as clear as these, cause this little guy never stays put hehehe.

Wow, these are some great pictures, my friend!--I love them and that LAST ONE IS my favorite one I think, but I love them all. I dont know if I've ever seen one of these. Seen things that look like this, but they may have not been a hummingbird moth at all? So glad you got to see it and was there more than one, or just one? You sure got some great close up and colorful pictures. Hope you had a great weekend, we did, it was a busy one!

PS, just read your comment, and yes, I think you should take your dolls out for a walk and make pictures!! I would love to see their adventures!

Thank you, Diane, for visiting my site and sharing such a sweet message. I was honored and blessed by what you wrote. It's amazing how a friendly comment makes one's day even brighter... and you've truly brightened my day!

I love the images of butterflies here (so beautiful!) and the hummingbird moth too. We have honeysuckle in our backyard and the hummingbirds are constantly around it... one has to carefully go by the area, at times. Just the other day a butterfly was happily flying around me and then he disappeared all at once, I looked up to my friend and said, "he's on my head, isn't he?" Yes, he was! And then... just like that... he flew away again!!! God's creation is so amazing!

I just became a follower of your site - and can't wait to see what you post next! :)

Many blessings back to you! Net

Yes, I have seen one and it pretty much creeped me out. I don’t mind not seeing another, though I certainly appreciate the beauty of your wonderful photographs.

Your photos are stunning. Flying things are so hard to photograph. We don't see many butterflies here anymore. A few giant yellow tiger swallowtails float through the yard. I don't know why we don't have more. To much spraying, I think. I have't seen a humming bird moth in a very long time either. I could almost his the whirl of his wings from your photo.

Butterflies can be so quick and elusive. Bravo for some fabulous shots!

I can see why you AND the butterflies/moths hang out at this park - so pretty and full of nectar! I have only seen a hummingbird moth once - I thought it was actually a hummingbird until I got a closer look … nice photos, especially given the heat and sun!
