Where does a Bumblebee Sleep?

Have you ever wondered? Inquiring minds want to know! And I have the answer at the bottom of this post!

We have Mexican Petunias planted in our courtyard and they bloom like crazy all summer long.

We’ve counted over 100 blooms at one time. And they drop their blooms in the late afternoon and the next day there are 100 more flowers! Amazing!

They attract hummingbirds, butterflies and bumblebees galore!

One evening my sweet hubby was in the front and saw a bumblebee in a rose.

Not moving.

He put his finger on it and it fluttered it’s wings just a little and went right on sleeping.

In the center of a rose!

So that’s where they sleep! In the rose garden of course!

Because the fairies sleep in the Petunias!

Wow, that is amazing that they drop their leaves and more appear. Rather like Day Lilies. I love the little fairy in your garden.

They're like us retired people. They sleep where and when they want.

The Mexican Petunias are so pretty, and it is interesting about the bumble bees sleeping on that rose.

Aww, how sweet! I can't imagine a nicer place to sleep! If I were only smaller, I would sleep in a rose bloom too!!! I love the bumblebees....I recently watched a video of a bumblebee that was injured and could not fly so a woman rescued it. It stayed with her until it died. It was a sweet story!

Wow, your flowers are amazing! xx

What lovely flowers and I love the little fairie. I know you are one grownup person I can tell that I recently bought the cutest stuffed donkey. Oh, well, I may just post about it some day......

not that I don't trust what you say, but I had to google this. ITS TRUE, they go inside the flowers because it can be 18 degrees warmer than the night temps. thank you , one more piece of trivia to clog my brain... I was like Linda figuring he was high on pollen. it said if they are not near the hive or nest they choose a flower.
did you know Butterflies ROOST at night in near by trees and bushes and are territorial and use the same place each night? I learned that years ago because I found one sleeping/roosting in the seagrape tree... and of course googled the answer. amazing shots of the bees and flowers. we have the Mexican petunias also, I have a pic for tomorrow on auto post.

Such a sweet post! Love your lovely photos and that bee sleeping is the sweetest! I have a flower bed of Mexican petunia. Quite a few years ago, almost 18, my mom heard a lady on the "neighbor radio program" telling everyone that they were welcome to come dig up some Mexican petunia because her flower bed had gotten over run with them. I went to pick my mom up and we dug up a good batch of these flowers. I planted mine in my flower bed when we lived in town. When we got our country home here, I dug up these flowers and brought them out here and transplanted them. They have come up every year since. I need to go and see if I can find any sleeping bees in my flowers now!

Diane, I laughed about the bee. I guess I have never thought about where they went after feeding. :) Great pictures. Blessings to you and your husband for a fun filled weekend. xoxo, Susie

I can't think of a better place for a bumble bee to sleep than the center of a Rose. : ) That is one BIG bumble bee. Your Petunias are so pretty. Love the color. What a sweet fairy keeping your flowers company. This is a peaceful post, Diane. I enjoyed it.

I love the colour of the Mexican petunias! I've caught bumblebees sleeping in roses here, too, and in other flowers as well. They slumber when it's chilly in the mornings and don't get up until the sun warms things a little.

I saw Mexican petunias for the first time a couple weeks ago in front of a restaurant and inquired what they were. The restaurant owner told me how they drop their flowers each evening and new ones appear the next day. Yours are just beautiful, I think I'll add them to my flower beds next year.
