Hats off to the bicyclists on the Florida Trails!

Are in my case....'caps off'!

I love sharing the things I see in nature when I hike but I'll dedicate this post to the friendly people I meet on the Florida Trails!

On the section of trail that I hike, I rarely even see another hiker. I see LOTS of bicyclists though!

And they all greet me and wave when they go by. Some ask me if I've seen anything as they speed by. A few even stop to chat.

I've learned some of my 'regulars'....people I see just about every time I hike. I recognize them by their bikes, or their helmets or their greetings! One man stopped to ask me about an ID on some birds he saw last week. He described them and I was able to tell him they were Swallow-tailed Kites. When he stopped to chat, he said, You're just the person I wanted to see today. That felt great...and it felt even better that I actually knew which birds he had seen. I've seen quite a few of them lately too!

 Swallow-tailed Kite

So these are a few photos of some of my favorite people and a few Swallow-tailed Kites in flight!

Cheers to everyone that enjoys the Florida Trails!

Love One Another!

I’m joining Angie for Mosaic Monday HERE .

It's nice to hear how friendly they are, and that sometimes they stop to chat with you. How wonderful that you were able to identify the bird for that man.

Well, all the bikers waving, talking and sharing with you, says a lot about YOU! You must have the Light that shines and a great smile.

I can't walk much lately, but I can ride a bike and enjoy it. Looks like some pretty places in your posts to ride.

Love the Swallow-Tailed Kites.
Biking has always been fun for me.... until I got old enough to fear cracking my bones. LOL

Good to see people using safety gear. When we go out in our boat we always wear a life preserver. Most people here don't. If there was an accident it would take too much time to find one and get it on to save your life, especially during the cold months. - Margy

Hello,

I am amazed the bikers out in the Florida heat. It is nice they are friendly and wave. I have had some bike riders fly by us on the bike trail, we had no idea they were even passing us until it happened. Some will say hello or at least let us know they are coming by just saying "on your left". Love the Swallow-tailed Kite photos, great bird and sighting. Enjoy your day, have a happy new week!

Trails are generally friendly places and are shared by cyclists and pedestrians, and increasingly with roller bladers too. It drive me a little crazy when some riders don't have a bell on their bike and don't announce their presence either. But they are in the minority fortunately.

Isn't it nice to meet new friends, and share common interests, we have bikers who ride by our farm, and they always wave when we are near them.
Blessings,

Diane, those are a lot of cyclists! I haven't ridden a bike in years and I don't think I ever owned a bicycle helmet. Remember the good old days when you didn't need to wear one. Hooray for the bird expert! ♥

Diane - walking or biking, it's a community. What a wonderful feeling to have people that you see regularly, and that have come to rely on you for bird identification. We mentioned a kite to one of our neighbors tonight, and she thought we were talking about a toy. We soon filled her in! Thanks for linking to Mosaic Monday as always, my dear southern friend!

Hi Lavender Dreamer, I sure enjoyed this post. Your description of being on the trail reminds me so much of my walks around Green Lake here in Seattle. I share your experience of finding out who are “regulars,” who may offer a greeting, and who enjoys spotting an unusual bird. Thanks for sharing your blog. Have a happy week ahead. John

Ending your post with 'love one another' is a great sentiment Diane. Thank you. I enjoyed your photos, both birds and bicyclists. So nice to hear how friendly the riders are. And fun for you on your walk to wave as they go by and occasionally chat. Very uplifting :)

That's wonderful that there are bikers on the Florida trails. And they are friendly, even better. I always admire bicyclists, especially when they are getting up there in age and are still going at it strong. Not an easy thing to do. : )

Biking is also very popular here and the trails are always full of bicycle riders. When they are going downhill I make sure to move aside so they don't need to slow down, even though the protocol here is for bikers to yield to hikers, and we both have to yield to horses.

Happy bikers! It is wonderful to hear that they are so friendly. BTW I borrowed Shinrin-Yoku by professor Quing Li. So interesting, I never realized Japan had so much forests! You might be interested in Beth Kempton's Wabi-sabi...

Diane, how wonderful that you traveled across the country a few times. I wish I liked traveling as much as my daughters do. But I don't enjoy it like them - all the preparing and planning, all the expense of it, but they reassure me that once I get to my destination, it will all be worth it. I guess I just love home too much haha.

Thanks for encouraging Nel in her travels though. I'm glad they're more adventurous than me. : )

Hello, I found your blog while looking for info. on Fairmeadow Farms. I have knit some things for Carol using her beautiful wool. I found her through a friend that used to work for her. Anyway, I'm a Florida native and just wanted to say that I love your blog, and I love your attitude about getting out there, enjoying life and appreciating all the beauty that surrounds us!
