I must have ORDER!

Well, I'm kidding just a little but I think we've all noticed 'changes' since we've been staying home more. I worked hard Spring cleaning at the beginning of this all. I had cleaned and taken things to donate before the pandemic. And then when we HAD to stay home, I worked even harder. And then when I did made something, I cleaned everything up just as soon as I finished. I like to sew and love to make cards and altered books. And I don't usually mind having an 'ongoing' mess while I work. But for some reason, I need order now.

One of the sewing projects I worked on was making pillow covers out of some old hand quilted pieces that I bought at a thrift store a long time ago.

I loved the old fashioned fabric and they were all 18 by 18 square...more or less.

I cut them to make them more perfectly square and then put some pretty gingham checks on the back in an envelope style.

I'm not sure I can explain how to make the envelope but I'm sure there are directions if you search online.

I try to make covers because I already have so many throw pillows. So this way the pillow fits right inside!

I am using two of them in the lanai and one on my recliner in the living room. I think they look and feel cozy and comforting.

I think I'll get my sketchbook out next and see if I can do a little sketching or watercolors. Maybe I can stand a few more things on my desk and the rest of the room can stay clean for awhile longer.

Have you enjoyed doing your sewing or craft projects these past couple of months? I need some inspiration! What are you working on now?

I like Thursdays HERE too!

Those are gorgeous Diane. How clever! I have some things to take to the thrift store that have been in my car since March. I had done a big clean out in January and February. Hoping I can drop them off soon. I need to clean my car out.lol

Oh, the pillow covers are very nice, Diane. I like the last two with a bit of blue in them. It looks like a patchwork that you'd see on a quilt, so charming. Yes, I like to be organized too, and I'm more of a minimalist, don't like a lot of clutter. But I think that's great that you clear things out and donate your stuff now and then, cause people have so much stuff that they don't need or want and never give it away. I was just thinking about this today. ; )

Your pillows look awesome! I keep busy with my crafts, mostly crocheting. This summer, I'd like to try some rock painting. Enjoy your day, hugs, Edna B.

They look fabulous! No, I haven't done much that requires attention to detail...having trouble with focus. 😁

Your cozy quilted pillows look great and so welcoming!

I continue to work on my cross stitch projects and, like you, I function so much better when there is ORDER!

My desk sometimes gets a little cluttered, but mostly I prefer order. Right now I need to take everything off it and wipe it all down. Where DOES all the dust come from?

Diane, I love your pillow covers. You do such good work, making them even, pretty backing, perfect envelope! I haven't been able to buckle down to any sewing, I've just been doing the occasional watercolor. I like to do tiny ones to put on cards and write a little note to friends.

I wish I could say this has been a productive time for me but I did very little cleaning and my sewing machine doesn't work anymore. I haven't given more than a little thought to starting a jewelry project. Now that I am rehabbing my knee... you get the picture. I have become a really bad procrastinator. Good for you, and I love those patchwork pillowcases!

How lovely and resourceful!!! Well done! You have my admiration as my skills with a sewing machine are marginal at best! Have a grand day!

The pillow cover is the perfect use for that pretty thrifted patchwork! I always make an envelope backing, too. I wish I could say I have cleaned a lot during the stay-at-home period, but I have to admit that I gave done about the same as I always do!

Oh my! What beautiful pillows! What a great idea! You are so clever! You were lucky to find those quilted pieces already to go like that...and then to create such nice pillow cases out of them. Wow! You are smart! I haven't done any sewing in a while. My sewing machine tends to not always work well and I get frustrated and want to quit. It might be me, not the machine. LOL. Since we moved last summer I am still trying to find things and re-figure things out and just haven't felt like tackling new projects much. Of course, having surgery in the midst of it didn't help. Now I am getting where I want to do things again, so I may try your ideas...but where can I find those quilted pieces?????

I'm not about to add it now, but probably the one creative thing I never got into and wish now that I had is sewing. I'd be making pillow covers and who knows? Maybe slip covers! These are wonderful. I love the use of the quilted pieces.

Great job on the cushion covers. I do sew and I do need cushion covers but I haven't been sewing for ages.

Love the pillow covers. I am so unhandy, so no sewing or craft projects. I'm going to take some time in the next few days and do some cleaning. I worked on the kitchen a few days ago, but need to make some order in the living room. I know that I'll be happier when I do. Take good care!

Hi Diane, That's very beautiful that pillow, you are very handy and creative. Stay safe. Greetings Caroline

yes... order. So we feel like we're in control of SOMETHING! I get it. I go around the kitchen/family room every night now before bed, straightening and clearing and sorting so I wake to less chaos.
I'm about to order my bead stash soon... now that should provide hours of order therapy.

What great looking pillow covers. I'm all about making interchangeable covers, too, as I have quite a few to change out for the seasons. I haven't done much sewing lately - been too busy with this online teaching stuff. Just a few more weeks to go before summer break and it can't come soon enough!

Girlfriend I LOVE THESE PILLOWS. so cute. I love quilts...so there's nothing better than pillows made from QUILTS, right? They look so soft and gently time-worn, the BEST KIND. Happy weekend!! It's my birthday, so I hope to have some FUN!!! iT'S HOT, but we took a long long long hike today.....over 3 hours. I am very very tired, but would not have missed that at all! Hope you're doing good this weekend. Whatever you do....make lots of pictures for us ok? Hugs

I haven't been staying home (essential worker) but I have really been trying to get my life in order, a tiny bit every day. Love the pillows. I enjoyed the hike with the birds, the water plants, the alligator. I have never seen a Black Crowned Night Heron.
