We always check the tide chart before we drive out to the Gulf of Mexico and on this particular day, the lowest tide was at noon.
Perfect! All of these sandbars will be covered with water when the tide comes in.
But for now....
a glimpse at how many birds are out there!
The Pelicans seem to be having a conversation.
Or is it an argument? lol
We drive along the canal on a dirt road for 4 miles before we reach the Gulf.
Great White Egret, Snowy Egret and Tri-colored Heron
And we had never seen so many birds along the banks of the canal and in the water.
I think this is a Bonaparte's Gull.
Hubby was driving and some of these were taken from inside the truck!

He looked a bit comical with all his twists and turns!
Just one more before we have to walk away!
We saw a wonderful variety of shorebirds!

awesome pic of the egret and the tricolor heron, all the photos are great. and all those oyster shells, wow on that too. the are sharp as knives, i wonder if the birds ever get cut on them. Daddy had a horror of a fall on them and many many stiches way back in 1960 in Savannah
I live on the beach near the Intracoastal in South Florida. We frequently see pelicans, egrets, and herons. One morning I was out walking near the Intracoastal and there wa a flock of storks. I had never seen one before and had to take a photo and then look it up. I was thrilled and surprised that they are not a pretty bird. Love all your photos .Thanks.

I guess the Snowy Egret is easy to identify because the feathers on the back of the head look messy. Kinda funny.
Sometimes we see a stork here in my community and I always think he must have lost his way since we retired people are too old to have babies!!!

I agree. It is hard to pick a favorite picture but I did. Mine are of the pelican fishing for dinner. He appeared to be working hard!

Pelicans always look so comical on land but they sure are graceful flyers.
What a nice ride with rewards all along the way! Love low tide. It's like Nature ringing the dinner bell.
Great job finding the Bonaparte's Gulls. Typically, they only visit in winter and not in great numbers.

it looks like the gulf of mexico might be a great spot!! i like taking pictures from the car as i can steady my arms on the frame of the open window!!
the storks are a cool shore bird for me to see as they do not come this far north. the egrets and tri-colored are spectacular...i think you are right about the gull, i saw one, only once. i remember the smaller size and the black mark on it's head!!
i could never pick a favorite from all of these. have an awesome weekend, with maybe a walk or two!!

What a great variety of birds that you saw. This is the time of year here when most of our birds are down south - visiting You!
You saw a variety of birds on your trip to the Gulf. The White Egrets are always a favorite of mine. But that Stork searching for food comes in a close second. You got some unique photos of him. The Snowy Egret is precious too. ; )

I would be a happy birder seeing any of these birds. The Pelicans and Terns are favorites. But, I also love the Egrets and the tricolored heron and the wood stork. All are wonderful sightings, I do miss the Florida birds.
