When we travel to a new state park we both do some research (hubby even more than me). I don't need to know every thing about a new place. It's nice to have an open mind and discover some things when we get there.
I did happen to see a headline in a article about a lake monster so I was hoping I got to see it.
One day we drove across the lake to walk around the beach area and another pond of water that flows into the lake. And we got lots of surprises.
The dam was spectacular with the Cypress Trees in there end of the year, rusty orange color.
And don't you love this Great Blue Heron right on the dam.
At the swimming beach there were some beautiful Killdeer.
I thought they were another type of water bird but I believe they are Killdeer.
We parked here and started walking around.
And now starts the photos of the Reed Bingham Lake monster!
So skip right along to the end if you don't like these photos!
Because this was definitely a monster alligator!
One of the biggest I've ever seen.
I walked down to this pretty spot but realized I was lined up with the gator across the way.
I have a lot of respect for alligators and when I first zoomed in, his eyes were closed.
And then they were open a little more.....
and a little more!
So then I decided to back up and leave!
One more quick photo and I'm back in the van!
Another 'monster' story for my camping journal!
Reed Bingham State Park is in Adel, Georgia and the website is HERE! One of our camping trips when we went across the border of Florida into Georgia to explore!

You are much braver than I am. If I saw an alligator, I would be out of there. He certainly is a BIG one. Thankfully, we don't see them living in Florida on the ocean. Amazing photos!!
Do you think there are large animals out there that we have not discovered yet? I would like to think so, but I doubt it. It would be quite interesting though. Keep on searching though, you might get one named after you!
that alligator sure looks like a monster to me!
Oh my, that is a HUGE alligator!!! Is there a way to tell a male from a female?
You know I just love Gator's, thank you for being so brave to take such a great set of photos of this monster.
Carla
Yikes! That's a huge alligator. Backing up was a good idea! I saw my first crocodile recently, in Mexico, and couldn't believe how ugly it was. I much prefer the graceful heron and killdeer!
I was hoping for Nessie, but this guy is a super great 2nd. wow, that is one mammoth gator and he looks like he is smiling as he thinks about how to grab you, dunk you, roll you over and over and hide you under a sunken log, out of sight until his dinner time... Read that in a book. ha ha great shot
OH wow! Is this in Florida? I've never heard of it before, but it is a beautiful place! And that "monster" gator looks like he's giving you a good look, trying to decide if you're worth going after or not. LOL. I think he's probably thinking, "Oh no! Another one of those tourists with a camera! Okay, I'll open my eyes and pretend I'm going to eat you so you can get a good picture of me to share with all your blogging friends. Now can I go back to sleep please???" LOL. Just another lazy day in "gatorland". LOL. Seriously, I'd stay out of his way too. Great pictures, however!!
VERY GOOD gator pics!!! Wow. He was indeed a big one!
Those rusty orange Cypress trees are gorgeous!
That is a fun post! What a monster... and people worry about our bears. (All sleeping now!)
I am terrified of the IDEA of seeing an alligator! Thankfully, there aren't any in my part of the country.
Goodness! He is a monster!
Wonderful natural sceneries
Good golly that gator is HUGE!! Yikes. A beautiful place to hike and camp, though. Thanks for sharing!!
Lovely photos. We have quite a few Killdeer around here. When they run they remind me of tiny road runners. :)
Goodness! That alligator is BIG! Great series of photographs.
All the best Jan
This is a beautiful series of photos.
The birds are a Little Ringed Plover ( Charadrius dubius ) great that you were able to photograph them, you don't see them often here anymore.
The alligator is really a monster to see, I'm so glad that this doesn't occur in the wild in the Netherlands.
I wish you a good week.
Greetings Irma
wonderful views.....
critters are interesting with alligators and birds....
great captures
That gator is a monster. I don't know if I would have been brave enough to get that many pictures of it before baking away.
Great photos of the gator and the other wildlife too. Sounds like a fun and surprising trip.
Hello,
The new park looks beautiful, I love the colorful trees.
Great collection of birds and photos. I love the heron and the killdeer. That is one huge gator, I would back far away from that critter. Thank you so much for your critter post and sharing your link. Take care, have a great weekend. PS, thank you for leaving me a comment.
I wouldn't have stayed around the gator long enough for a photo. He was indeed a monster, Diane.
I love your big gator. It is huge!!
I think you found a big monster after all. Alligators would have made me faint. The red cypresses are very nice.
He does look like a monster gator!! Beautiful photos. Even some cool reflections of the monster in the water.
Oh yes, the gator is monstrously big. 😄
What a lovely park! You've given us a new spot to visit when we travel through that area visiting relatives in central Georgia.
That 'gator looks well fed. You're right about your i.d. for the Killdeer. Double-breast band, light stripe above the eye.
Love those rusty cypress!
Hope you're doing well, Diane. Stay warm.
I am so with you! Ingo plans and I... like to see what´s there (well, sometimes I get a catch, too, beforehand). The pics are spectacular.
The dam, the beach, beautiful!
To monsters! We have Elmo, the monster from Sesame Street right here! And Sully and Mike... (reckon you don´t mean those monsters
Yours is much more scarier...
Nature’s monsters seem more dangerous than the imaginary ones, I think.
best, mae at maefood.blogspot.com
Wonderful close-ups of the alligator. I wouldn't want to be any closer. :)
That certainly WAS a monster. You are very brave to stand there and take photos. I would be out of there. Beautiful scenery though.
The alligator photos are awesome!
