We spent a few days at Manatee Springs State Park again this month.
That big clump of greenery in the center is poison oak!
I always see some amazing sights along the boardwalk.
And the Suwannee River is always picturesque!
I had a chance to talk to a fisherman on this particular hike and I learned something valuable!
I asked him what the fish were that we were seeing in the water....over a hundred of them!
And he told me they were Mullet. OK, I am familiar with Mullet. They love to jump high out of the water and are fun to watch. But he told me that after a boat goes through the water, stay put and watch the water. Other fish and sea life will come up to the surface. And lo and behold, it is true! And I've seen some amazing sights by taking the time to stop and watch! I even watched a Manatee come up to the surface at the Ochlockonee River a few days later.
Reflection of the Suwannee River
I have a good imagination so I wanted to share some photos of things I saw on this one hike, that are not what they seem....
or are they?
Do you see a Mermaid, or the leaf at the top of the photo?
A bird in the tree?
A shark in the water?
A cute sea monster?
A turtle underwater? (it really is a turtle! lol)
Do you have a good imagination too?

...Diane, gorgeous pictures of the beautiful spot. I thought that a "Mullet" was an awful men's hair style!
Such beauty and fun things to see in the photos. I live vicariously through your hikes and travels.
Good morning, Diane. Yes, it's true that we can see many different and unique things in nature if we use our imagination a little bit. So much fun. I often see creatures of various kinds in logs, water, and clouds.
Learning from people who know stuff about the place is also a great idea. Have a great weekend.
Diane, your photography gets better and better with every post. These photos could get you an Art Showing. Thank you for allowing me to tag along on your walking adventures . . . I always enjoy myself :)
Oh my gosh it really does look like a shark in the water. I can see the mermaid too.
How fun to see all those things in the water. :)
What a beautiful place to go hiking.
Yes, let our imagination run free and we can see so many interesting things.
Have a happy and peaceful weekend.
All the best Jan
There’s a quiet magic in learning to pause and really watch the water
You take us on such interesting hikes...and I saw a mermaids tail. Have a great weekend.
Wat een prachtige foto's van je wandeling bij het meer.
De vissen zijn prachtig.
Ik wens je een heel mooi weekend.
Groetjes Irma
That river is like glass! I can imagine skiing on it! That boat hint is interesting. If I have the opportunity I'll have to check!
Hello Diane,
Looks like another beautiful park and hike.
The river and fish photos are wonderful.
Nice capture of the turtle too.
It is interesting what our imagination and eyes can see, nature is amazing. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, have a great weekend.
I love how clear the water is. I have a great imagination. This time of year I see all sorts of stick snakes on the trails.
Diane,
Along the Suwannee’s winding grace,
The boardwalk holds a magic place.
Where mullet leap and manatees glide,
And secrets stir when boats subside.
A leaf may smile, a log may grin,
A shark or mermaid might dwell within.
With every step, new wonders bloom—
If you just pause and make some room.
So let your mind go wandering free,
For nature paints what you can see!

It's wonderful to use your imagination when out and about. I did see the bird in the tree, the shark fin, the mermaid. Your imagination is working fine. :)
I have imagination, yes, and I like this kind of playing with images. Nice shots!
This post is great fun, Diane. Sounds like you had a good holiday.
I have a very good imagination and I loved seeing yours at work Diane! Beautiful sights and I thank you for passing those tips along from the fisherman. That is a wonderful bit of knowledge there and grateful for it. Have a great continued weekend!

The 1st 2 photos are my favourites!
I love imagining along with you in this fun post. A beautiful place and the fish photos are great. Also loved John's poem for you. Have a good rest of the weekend.
fantastic river..... love to visit it
Fabulous underwater photography ... and that is definitely a mermaid you caught in that one photo! (of course I have seen alligators and dinosaurs in Oregon, which other people seem to think are just gnarly logs and driftwood so i may also enjoy an active imagination!
That's such a great tip about watching the water after a boat passes And your "not what they seem" photos are so fun and imaginative! It's amazing what our minds can see in nature, the log of wood does seem like a shark,
Lovely photos of the river and your imagination made them much more fun.
Wonderful nature photos ~ you do get to see the best critters and beautiful nature's creation ~ thanks, ~ hugs,
Wishing you good health, laughter and love in your days,
