Nature Abounds at home!

One thing great about living in Florida is the heat....
NO, I mean birds!

I'm still stuck inside because of the high temps but I've gotten out for a couple of hikes this month.

We have a neighborhood pond nearby and lots of big windows in our house so all you have to do is look outside to see birds.

One day, I got the best sighting but only pics of the geese.

A flock of about a dozen Canada geese walked across the golf course and into our back yard, followed by a flock of wild turkeys. And down the greenway was a flock of White Ibis.

I usually just enjoy the view and don't always run for my camera!

And of course we are always planning for cooler weather and camping trips.

So we bought a small screen tent and popped it up in the living room! Haha!

We have a rug that's the perfect size too.

And I sewed a pocket in two vintage beach towels to fit over our lawn chairs and I like the way they turned out.

Home improvements included getting rid of this small curio cabinet.

It never matched the furniture in my living room and I hated it. I also got tired of the jumble of what nots and tea cups on the shelves. I packed them up in a box and put them in a storage closet. I'll keep them for awhile.

Hubby put together this sofa table and I like it so much better!

Bird books and art books, a basket and giraffe! Better!

So that's my nature sightings at home!

How are you doing this week?

I’m joining Saturday’s critters HERE

  and Mosaic Monday HERE.

It's wonderful to have nature come to your own backyard when it's too hot to go out and look for it! I noticed a flock of Canada Geese fly over last week, so I think they are getting more active in our area again. Although there are many who stay here year round over on one of the larger lakes in our neighborhood. They just don't come to our pond until fall, when we have more water in the pond, hopefully! I love what you did with your curio cabinet/new sofa table. That does look very nice and neat. I know it is hard to put away things like teacups, etc., but there comes a time when we need to opt for a more simple lifestyle and less clutter. I think about it a lot, but haven't gotten around to doing anything about it yet! One of these days I will get up my nerve to say "now's the time! Take it away!" LOL. I enjoyed your post and I hope things will cool down a bit soon so we can all get back outside more. Have a lovely weekend.

I like the tent. I am sure y'all are ready to get back out there. I have thought we've had August heat this July. It has kept me inside far too much too. I almost overheated pulling weeds the other day.
The beach towel idea was so clever. I may have to copy that.

How lovely to turn those vintage towels into beach chair covers. What fun. I loved your 'this and that' post today, Diane. A little bit of nature and those great poses of the Canada Geese along with a bit of what you're doing inside your home these days.

Sometimes curio cabinets just gotta go, don't they? They were fun and useful in their day, but it seems so many of us are longing for more minimalism in our overstuffed lives. Especially as we age and realize we don't really want to dust it all anymore.

Happy Friday!

I like the little cabinet that you don't. :) I would have painted it white. :)

It sounds like you’ve had some lovely wildlife encounters right from home and refreshing your space with that new sofa table sounds like the perfect way to bring a little calm and clarity indoors too

Lovely nature sightings, Diane. The white ibis are so striking. Canada Geese are just plain nuisances around here.
I like the more modern curio cabinet. There comes a time to streamline possessions. And how fun to be planning for cooling weather camping trips. The beach chairs look great!

What a beautiful series of photos!
It's a shame it's still so hot where you are; here it's a lovely 22 degrees Celsius during the day.
The tent and beach towels are lovely; they look cheerful.
I wish you a wonderful weekend.
Best regards Irma

Totally loving the backyard bird parade.
Indoor camping is genius!
Florida heat may trap you inside, but you’ve made it cozy, creative, and full of feathered visitors.

When I was on my way to work yesterday morning I saw a huge flock of Canada Geese walking down the sidewalk. There must have been a pond nearby somewhere.
Cool idea with the beach towels for your chairs and that screen tent looks perfect for enjoying the outside bug free.
Love your new table. It looks a lot like the shelves and desk that I have now. The look is really appealing to me

What a clever idea about the towels and love the updated look behind the sofa. :) Less is more as they say.

Diane,

In the hush of your Florida home under blazing sun,
nature wanders right to your windowpane—
Canada geese strides across the green,
wild turkeys swagger through backyard glades,
and white ibis echoes their feathered parade.

Inside, you weave your quiet human crafts.
A living-room tent for dreaming of camping skies,
vintage towels recycled into pockets of summer ease,
a curio packed away, replaced with calm and clarity—and
new gifts: bird books, art, a modest giraffe watching over it all.

You've turned heat and stillness into something rich—
a chorus of wings beyond glass,
and a sanctuary of home that breathes and shines.
May your next cool breeze bring more wild visitors—
and new stories unfolded right at your own windowsill.

John 😊

i've had a great week...i don't push myself to go out if it is too hot and we have had record breaking temperatures here at the shore. it's nice that the animals come to you, when it is too hot to go outside, i have a nice bird feeding station and water so they visit me often. you have been productive, i enjoy the things you are doing. we are pretty paired down, we did it when we remodeled the living room/office. the wild turkeys are gorgeous, they have so much beautiful color. have a great weekend!!

Hello Diane :)
When the temperature rises so high that we can't go outside, which is the case with both of us, we are fortunate that nature comes to us. Great captures of all the birds. I like your new sofa table.:)
Have a happy week

I love your tent. I need that for the back yard to keep the bugs away! And oh, those ibis! Wow!

We did our sightseeing in Greece in 100 degree and over weather. I’m glad to be back in my own house now. Good luck with the end of the highs.

I am, of course, very pleased to see the CANADA Geese, but the White Ibises are pretty special, too. Isn’t it amazing how much stuff you accumulate and then reach a point where you ask yourself why?

Kay G. said...

Yes! It is so hot and the birds love the water we put out for them! You know the plastic bottoms of 10 inch pots? Thats what we use! It's like private swimming pools for them. Love your towels on lawn chairs. Clever clogs!!

My Dad lives in the panhandle and I usually don't visit him this time of year due to the heat. This year I feel like he sent it my way! Lots of inside time here too.

Sure are lots of birds. They are lovely. The new shelves look very smart and more serviceable than the previous cabinet.

So lovely to see birds from your window - especially when you don't want to go out in the heat. We had a beach dome tent, and had to look on Mr Google of how to open and close it, then hubbie filmed me doing it on my phone for later reference! I love the chair covers you made - great idea! I need to clean out some cupboards too. Enjoy your week, stay cool. I haven't visited in a while, so it has been good to catch up today.

Tienes mucha suerte de ver todas esas aves desde tu casa, son preciosas. Te queda muy bonito el mueble. Besos.

Staying inside and enjoying the view while cool is a much better idea. The heat is dangerous. You have spent your inside time wisely while waiting for better weather.

Making a cover for the lawn chairs is smart! They will be much more comfortable when sitting. I should do something similar for the cushions on my porch chairs. It would be easy to pull out when company shows up. That might happen when I slice the watermelon. You are still planning to drop by for a slice?
