As you get older....

...do you find your tastes are changing?

I have always loved all kinds of crafts and eclectic decor
but all of a sudden, I am going to thrift stores and Goodwill
and now I find myself drawn to a lot of the Primitive blogs
and their unique handmade items.

When my kids were small, I lived in East Texas and
my best friend and I would go to garage sales and
find all kinds of neat things for our kids...toys, etc!

But then after YEARS of not buying anything
"second hand"...I have returned to thrifting!

This article was in the July issue of O Magazine!

(and yes, I just got around to reading it last night!)

So...having said that, I think I will try to divide up
my favorite blog list into some
separate categories !

I got the inspiration to do this from my girlfriend, Brenda
at the Cozy Little House. I LOVE her blog and copy her as often
as I can get away with it....and I am one of her 'cozy friends'!

So I may be changing things up a little
but hopefully I won't lose anyone!

Here are some cute little Halloween decorations, Michela!
These were from a thrift store
and need a new paint job! lol

And the sweet little crow is from my favorite

gift store, Magpies!

Enjoy your day!
Do something FUN!

I think part of it is that thrifting and "repurposing" is so in right now. It's accepted to be thrifty and innovative. Where as a decade ago, it was still only for the less fortunate. At least that's what I think. How ever, maybe it's something, as I've gotten older :), that I have deemed OK because I'm more comfortable with myself now. Who knows! I just love it though ;)

I love the thrill of thrifting. Always have! I love going to flea markets too. I am not a big fan of garage sales, simply because I don't like to get up that early on a Saturday morning - lol!

Hi Diane,I have always thrifted out of an necessity to do so because of a very tight buget or one of those considered less fortunate..smile...I smile because I don't consider myself that at all. I believe if I had more than enough money to go around I would still enjoy thrifting so much more than shopping at any retail store. I to am some what eclectic in my style of decorating for sure. I love vintage, primitive, retro so many except for modern are contemporary, just doesn't appeal to me at all...I am pretty much hodgepodge when it comes to style.I am trilled that this has become something of fashion to buy secondhand, make do etc...now everyone can reap the benefits from it...smile again.

You are so right that our taste changes as we get older. Like so many, I like a lot of different styles. There is so much fun in finding that extra special touch for your home at a bargain price! My favorite places to go are flea markets and estate sales.

Have a sweet day,
becky

Yes, we do make some changes for sure. I'm not sure that I have changed all that much...I still like cozy, comfortable, and clean. Ha!

Good luck with the division of blogs. Hope that you have one for "eclectic."

My tastes have definitely changed. I liked things much more formal in the past but now I want comfy. And thrifting helps to make that happen.

I'll have to try to find that article from O magazine.

My tastes have definitely evolved! Although I still tend to be drawn to whimsical more than sophisticateed. It's funny because I admire sophistication in others, and yet it doesn't "fit" me.

Since I've become a mom, I'm drawn more to kid's stuff - bright colors, cuteness, and seasonal/holiday decor more than ever before.

And I've always been thrifty! Growing up less fortunate, I had to be! But my husband and I are masters of trash-to-treasure and doing projects that look first-class on a dime!

Years of experience!

I agree with you.I have always loved garage sells and flea markets. When my husband was alive we went every weekend.I do miss it a bit but,now more than ever Ive simplified my things. My home is a touch of me if you will with this and thats that I love.Im very happy with it.Its fun to do.Its a cozy sort of touch with my doll collection books in the bookshelf now instead of my fenton things or candles and plates.I love the change.
I will check out the O magazine,I used to get that one but since magazines are so expensive I kinda stopped.Have a wonderful weekend.

I have always loved vintage things. As I get older I love old things even more. Older things remind me of when times seemed simpler, or will trigger a memory of someones house I was in as a child. I had a friend who told me once that she thought I had a previous life. When I see old houses sometimes I cry. Isn't that silly?

Enjoy your thrifting, it is a lot of fun.

I was like you... buying things for the kids while they were little.I feel like I must be in the off season of thrifting. I need some of your thrifting vibe! Lately I just don't feel like thrifting--or shopping for that matter! Maybe it is the onset of Winter? Your blog inspires me.

The older I get the more I find myself simplifying my home and life. Going basic with my furniture and bringing in things to add color like pillows and such.
I love all your thifting finds!
Hope you are enjoying your weekend,
Robin~♥

Isn't it funny how years ago we wanted everything matchy-match and "coordinated?" And here we are at the other end of the spectrum! I am flattered for the mention, and you can copy anything I have. Because nothing is new. It is just recycled! My power was out ALL day yesterday and here we were, the pets and me, in the dark. And then today my CAMERA goes out! Have another ordered, but I'm "photo-less" till it gets here!

Thrifting is a blast. It all started for me when I met my friend Nico through a magazine and I visited her in 1996 in Montana. After she took me thrifting, we sat half the night at her kitchen table, exchanging and trading everything from Barbie shoes to doll bottles to cracker jack prizes...Jacqueline is back with you. Home from Montana! Lots of pictures coming starting tomorrow!

What goes, around comes around, they say. The longer I live I'm amazed by all the seasons life and how some things just seem to circle right back around.
How fun that you got to meet your local meteorologist the other day. What a treat. : )

I've never actually be a thrifter, but sounds like fun. With jewelry making, I've been thinking about looking for places to find "hidden treasures", old pieces I could rework or found objects. Wonderful post!

My taste in almost everything changes every so often. Sometimes I think it's because I don't really know what I like! But I seem to go through phases. I love your Halloween decorations.

What a cute post!

I never went into a thrift store in my life until I started blogging. I honestly just never thought about it but after seeing all the great things the girls found.....now, a new world has opened to me.

You are so right...my taste has changed over the years. I was into the cute country back in the 80's, went with the country cottage look in the 90's and now love prims, but not the grungy primitive.
