Summer Smashing!

Time to reveal a few more pages in our journals as we wrap up the summer fun!

These Smash journals are so much fun to work on because they have interesting backgrounds that inspire you to be creative!

I put these seashells on top of my pages just for the photo shoot!

And no….I don’t sit around all day and color in my coloring books…

PMDSCN4607

but I have a couple handy when I’m in the mood.

I mention that I keep a journal and thought I would give you an idea of what it looks like, too.

I have written in a journal every day of my life

…for years…for decades!

DSCN4612

For the past 15 years, I have written my journal in my day planner. Then I file the pages in small loose leaf binders. This has been easier for me to use and I can keep other notes in my planner. I write ideas, quotes, make lists, dream and ponder. (I have sections for everything!) It was my goal this summer to create an ‘art journal’. I worked on the smash journal as a step in that direction. I’m still learning!

I’m joining Ricki Jill and Angie for this fun party!

Do you keep a journal?

Are you artistic?

Do you have a new box of crayons?

(I do!)

I don't keep a journal,I've thought about it from time to time, but decided against it.
I'm creative, don't know if you could consider me artistic. I do a lot of crafting.

Your journal looks fascinating!! I made a travel journal that looks very much like that when we went to England, but haven't really journaled since. Now I'm thinking I should pick it up, especially during the long winter months. It feels like playing, doesn't it! And I don't have a new box of crayons because I have a whole card catalog drawer full of them. :-)

Hi Diane! I so admire you for keeping a journal Every day for years! I wish I could say I have. Beneficial in So many ways! I DO have a new box of crayons. Coloring was my favorite 'game' as a child and I still love them. I really like your smash journal. I have a couple of them and think they are a great springboard to art journaling. I'm glad you found an Irmi:) Have a beautiful day! Twyla

Awww..that is so sweet Diane. I use to keep a journal after my boys were born. Now I have my blog and I suppose that is my journal.

You are a great color artist! These are two coloring books I need...I have some nature coloring books, and a sea themed one :)

I love the Smash journal! You are very dedicated to journal every day. I guess it is quite a habit now after so many years. It really makes me wish I had stuck with it. I have taken a step in that direction, and bought a new small journal. I have yet to use it!
Have wonderful day! Hugs!

I don't have any crayons but I do have a couple hundred colored pencils. I've never kept a journal of any kind but lately I've thought about starting one but am not sure how to begin. I don't even know what a smash journal is. Have fun coloring and have a great day. Hugs

I used to keep written journals when I was younger....but last month I started doing an art journal...similar to what you are showing here...and I absolutely love it...just yesterday after class the manager of Hobby Lobby (a former student) said... "That must be some project you are working on....didn't I just see you in here yesterday?"...I was picking up some watercolors to try. ;).....BTW...I love the Oak Run shout out for my blog....you will probably get a couple of chuckles with the grasshopper photo. Thanks to your husband! Isn't Hernando wonderful? I am getting my bike serviced to tomorrow so I can get back to riding the trail which is at that intersection.

Good for you for keeping up your journal I've tried, but have never been able to stick with it.

Your daily journal looks & sounds (from your description) just like the one I always kept until just a couple of years ago when I retired. I was still feeling the need to have some kind of daily record, but not as detailed, when I discovered the Smash Books. I use one of mine as my daily planner/journal -- less complex but still fills my need to have a written, organized schedule. I like how you added the shells to your Smash Book for photo-effect! You color very well!

You are so creative, Diane! I consider my blog my 'life'm journal, but I do keep a gratitude journal. I also collect quotations and favorite poems in a journal and often enjoy reading them over and over again.

I love the idea of a smash journal. How lovely that you've written regularly. I especially love the idea of you coloring away in a coloring book. I regularly join Josie with a new box of crayons.

HUGS!

Hi Diane,
I used to write in a journal when I was younger, but got away from it as the years went by. I still love to color...and the grandkids love it when I color with them.

The coloring book idea is brilliant! And you could totally smash the little shells in there. Way to go on combining a journal with an art project and unlocking that creative side! :D

That's a great idea for your journal. I keep a bible study journal that sometimes doubles for a "diary" journal, but have never tried an artistic one.
